URBANISATION OF RURAL AREAS Taiwan, a small island which contains more than 20 million people, is encountering the phenomenon of urbanisation in countrysides. Save for that the convenience of transportation triggers the emergence of urbanisation, with the fast development during recent decades, cities can not accommodate extra immigrants. Therefore, as can be seen in the scenery in the background picture, not only people and buildings but also plants of various industries occupy

trysides and alleviates pressure from overloaded urban population, whilst it could also impact the environment of rural areas negatively. upon impaction?

BICYCLE INDUSTRY GROUP IN CENTRAL TAIWAN In the 1970s, Taiwanese Government set up an Export Processing Zone(EPZ) in central Taiwan, in which largefamount og steel factories gather, therefore, it forms a complete bicycle. Headed by Dajia (Giant Bicycles) & Dacun (Merida Bikes) are near the port, so it's convenient for goods exporting. However, nowadays, Taiwanese bicycle industry confront to a new competitoin from China, which has substantial cheap labours. Thus, industrial transformation will be a big issue.

IN-BETWEEN SHOPHOUSES Taichung, as one of crowded cities in Taiwan, is continually attracted to outsiders due to many job opportunities. However, in order to seek for houses/shelters for outsiders, soaring house prices become big obstacles. Therefore, stocking dwelling into the passage between particular two shophouses might be an useful solution. With the structure support of adjacent buildings, stocked dwelling space can be supported without extra sturcture. In addtion, for avoiding cutting 25

1 LAUNDRY Given that water scarcity and the distance from water resource, laundry may play an integral function for indigenous residents.

In the old town of Leh, we propose to place 10 centres: Two of them is B&Bs, and others centers adopted according to the environment and conditions. During dry spell, water restrictions will be imposed from the top tank, subsequently, entire system will be impacted by water channel center at the end. The top water tank services non-local residents and tourists, the middle layer of water system is to provide water to each unit, and the bottom one provision for public water.
