CHI Health Guide A handy booklet for places in HK catering to a healthier lifestyle and to those with special dietary requirements.
Welcome... Local Tips for Dietary Requirements
Hello there! On behalf of the CHI family we would like to welcome you to CHI, and if this is your first time to Hong Kong - 你好!
Chinese Vegetables Ask for your vegetables to have the sauce on the side, as they may add soy sauce.
As a family run company with specific health and dietary requirements, we understand how hard it is to find gluten-free places to eat, or outdoor spaces to enjoy especially when you’re in a new city! So, we have put together this quick guide with some need-to-knows and to help you settle in and explore your new home.
Noodles Always request for the white noodles which are made from rice, such as mai faan and hor faan. Yellow noodles will most likely have egg and wheat flour in them.
If you have any questions, comments or would like to share your CHI experience, please feel free to contact our Management Office and we’ll be happy to help.
Soups A lot of soup dishes will be seasoned with soy sauce, so check with the waiter and the kitchen before ordering.
CHI Management
Soy Sauce You have to be careful in HK as soy sauce (which has wheat in it), is used in almost every kitchen so when eating out, avoid ordering dishes that are sauce based.
Healthy living in HK Hong Kong is more that just a bustling metropolis, in fact, three-quarters of the land is country park! Check out HK’s government sites for detailed lists of hiking and mountain bike trails, camping sites, country and marine parks and other outdoor pursuits: Agricultural, Fisheries & Conservation Department Leisure & Cultural Services Department

Keep a CHI lifestyle - eat well, exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep... - Buy fresh fruit and produce from the local markets in Yau Ma Tei or down Graham Street, Central. - Join early risers in Kowloon Park for some morning tai chi, or take a leisurely jog around Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park in Sheung Wan.
*Be prepared and bring your own sauce like a wheat free Tamari sauce, especially when having Japanese! Dairy alternatives An alternative that is readily available in HK is soy milk which can be sweetened or unsweetened. A number of the local restaurants will serve this as a drink. Supermarkets will have fresh options in the cold dairy section or UHT boxed versions, and you can also get it in dried powdered form. Other dairy alternatives available in most larger supermarkets include rice milk, almond milk and coconut milk (in speciality stores).
