CHI Pet Guide What you need to know and where to find the right info about living in HK with your fur kids.
Welcome... Hello there!
Medically speaking
On behalf of the CHI family we would like to welcome you to CHI, and if this is your first time to Hong Kong - 你好!
All dogs 5 months or older are required by Hong Kong law to be licensed, microchipped and vaccinated against rabies. If you change your contact details/address please advise them. Visit www.afcd.gov.hk for more information.
As a family run company with 13 of our own fur kids, we know how important it is to make sure the whole family feels at home in a new place. So, we have put together this quick guide with some need-to-knows and to help you settle into your new neighbourhood. If you have any question, comments or would like to share your CHI experience, please feel free to contact our Building Management and we’ll be happy to help.
CHI Management
Going public By law, if your dog is over 20kgs the only areas they can be officially unleashed are country parks. Please browse through the country guide maps in our Management Office or order your own copy online from the Government Bookstore at www.bookstore. esdlife.com/eng that shows the extent of the country parks. Hong Kong has a plethora of public transportation options, which, unfortunately our furry little friends are unable to enjoy. The main method of travelling around wth your pet, is by taxi (if permitted by the driver - www.legislation.gov.hk/eng/home. htm?SearchTerm=taxi). You can also take your dogs on the ferries to outlying islands as long as they are muzzled and there are some nice walks and restaurants to enjoy there.
HK Government (AFCD) license
Must be renewed every 3 years.
Hong Kong AVID Microchip
This is permanent, but it’s good to get checked as it can mysteriously move around and disappear the body!
Vaccinations
Rabies Vaccine - Every 3 years. Yearly vaccine if your dog is going to travel. Prevention against Heartworm - Monthly tablet of Heartgard or Milbemycin OR - Yearly injection of ProHeart Protection against Ticks and Fleas - Frontline (spray or drops) monthly or more - and/or preventic tick collar Deworming - Use against intestinal worms at least 3 times for puppies - Regularly for adults
You can go to the animal hospitals, SPCA and veterinary clinics listed in the next section to get the licenses, microchips and vaccinations.
