IN CONVERSATION WITH MAYA MK We were delighted to welcome Maya MK to Chiswick Auctions South Kensington. Maya MK is a jewellery professional and journalist. She hosts Hidden Gems with Maya on Women’s Radio Station, showcasing extraordinary women in the jewellery world from mine to market. Maya is also the Founding Editor of The Carat Soup. A blog about gemstones, jewellery and arts. Maya’s multifaceted background gave her a unique approach to both the antique and contemporary lots in this auction. After much admiring, examining and trying on, she was able to narrow her favourites. “Absolutely delighted to attend a private jewellery viewing at Chiswick Auctions. As soon as I arrived, I behaved like a ballet of swans. Gliding to pieces I was immediately drawn towards. I impatiently enquired about the detailed and delicate brooches. I couldn’t wait to try them on. <PZW]OPW]\ Ua KIZMMZ 1¼^M JMMV NWZ\]VI\M \W PI^M M`XW[]ZM \W LQ‫ ٺ‬MZMV\ I[XMK\[ WN \PM RM_MTTMZa []XXTa KPIQV AW] VIUM Q\ 1¼^M JMMV \PMZM NZWU \PM UQVM[ \W Å VM RM_MTTMZa [ITM[ jewellery design to gemstone marketing. I’m drawn to the buzz of the auction room on sales day, completely electric. It’s bizarre because sometimes I don’t even realise I want something until I see it. Though the biggest pull and allure, has to be knowing that all lots are select pieces that are hand-picked and superbly curated. As is evident in this auction.”

Lot 112 “The setting and rich colours are phenomenal. These are also fun pieces, especially if worn together.”

Lot 50 “As an Art Deco fan, it’s MI[a \W ILWZM \PQ[ ;XMKQÅ KITTa \PM millegrain detailing and old mine cut diamonds, what’s not to love!”

Lot 225 “After seeing this 19th century, unusual piece on Instagram, I couldn’t wait to see it in person. As soon as I arrived, I simply HAD to see it straight away. From the hue of purple to the closed-back setting, it was most certainly worth the wait!”

During World War I Després became a draughtsman for the French Air Force, which later influence his modernistic designs. After the war, he took over the family business, which was to mark the beginning of his design career. Innovative with his use of materials, he embraced the dramatic contrasts of silver, enamel and semi-precious stones. He exhibited at the 1925 Exposition Internationale in Paris. His work was well received and was collected by many important writers and artists including Anatole France, Paul Signac and Andy Warhol.
