Collect for the Sixth Sunday of Easter O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. • at the conclusion of the collect all sing:
• all be seated Acts 10:44-48 While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God.
First Lesson
Then Peter said, “Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days.

Sing to the LORD a new song, * for he has done marvelous things.
With his right hand and his holy arm * has he won for himself the victory.
The LORD has made known his victory; * his righteousness has he openly shown in the sight of the nations. He remembers his mercy and faithfulness to the house of Israel, * and all the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. Shout with joy to the LORD, all you lands; * lift up your voice, rejoice, and sing. Sing to the LORD with the harp, * with the harp and the voice of song.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn * shout with joy before the King, the LORD.
Let the sea make a noise and all that is in it, * the lands and those who dwell there-in.
Let the rivers clap their hands, * and let the hills ring out with joy before the LORD, when he comes to judge the earth. In righteousness shall he judge the world * and the peoples with equity.
Second Lesson
1 John 5:1-6
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is
the victory that conquers the world, our faith. Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth.
The Word of the Lord.

John 15:9-17
The Holy Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ, according to John.
Glory to you Lord Christ
Jesus said to his disciples, “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do
what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.”

Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Canticle R: A Song of True Motherhood • bold type indicates change of chord
God chose to be our mother in all things and so made the foundation of his work, most humbly and most pure, in the Virgin’s womb. God, the perfect wisdom of all, arrayed himself in this humble place. Christ came in our poor flesh to share a mother’s care. Our mothers bear us for pain and for death; our ture mother, Jesus, bears us for joy and endless life. Christ carried us within him in love and tra-vail, until the full time of his passion. And when all was com-pleted and he had carried us so for joy, still all this could not satisfy the power of his wonderful love. All that we owe is re-deemed in truly loving God, for the love of Chirst works in us; Christ is the one whom we love.

A church in the heart of the city with a heart for the c ity For more on these and other Cathedral Matters go to . . . www.christchurchlouky.org Weekly E-Notes facebook.com/ChristChurchLouKY • Twitter.com/ChristChurchLou My dear people of Christ Church Cathedral and our Guests,
. . . . .from the Dean
Happy Mother’s Day! On this sixth Sunday of Easter, we think of our mothers—and all of the men and women who have nurtured us. Later in this service, we will give thanks for and pray God’s blessings upon them all. That prayer is on page 8. In addition, the Chapel is dressed to help us reflect upon Mary, the mother of our Lord. The month of May brings the Feasts of Pentecost (May 24) and the Most Holy Trinity (May 31). In June, we will keep the Feast of Corpus Christi (June 7). These will be exciting days. On Trinity Sunday, we begin a summer of Enriching Our Worship (EOW), Prayer 2. EOW is a Eucharistic Prayer produced by the National Church Standing Liturgical Commission in 1998 and was later approved for use by General Convention. It will not be new to you—Christ Church Cathedral has used it before. In EOW, you will recognize the familiar shape of the Eucharistic prayer that we hear every Sunday: the Sursum Corda (‘the Lord be with you; and also with you’ ...), the Sanctus (‘Holy, holy, holy’ ...) and the Great AMEN. If you have not experienced EOW, you might enjoy its simplicity. In any case, let me know what you think once we begin on May 31. You can reach me at 502-632-3213. Festival of Faiths ’15 begins this Tuesday (May 12). Full schedule and other details are posted on the Bulletin Board. A few more dates of interest: • May 17: Youth Fellowship with Calvary Episcopal Church, following 10:00 worship • May 31: Older Children Fellowship in Dean’s Hall, following 10:00 worship • June 14: A Conversation about Planned Giving, in Bishops’ Hall following 10:00 worship. Our guests: the Rev’d Dick Humke, Mr. Carter Ruml. The operative word for us today is ‘love’. Jesus commands it. The disciples live it. We are challenged to continue it. As you prepare for worship, contemplate these words, written by Madeleine L’Engle, late author and devout Episcopalian: In the evening of life, we shall be judged on love, and not one of us is going to come off very well, and were it not for absolute faith in the loving forgiveness of my Lord I could not call on him to come. Faithfully,
The Very Rev’d Joan Pritcher Your Dean in the Interim The Sixth Sunday of Easter

• Confirm “Christ Church Cathedral” as your charity and you are signed up. After you complete registration, the Cathedral will reap the financial benefits every time you use your Kroger Plus Card.
Stewardship Notes We are blessed and we can BE a blessing The Cathedral has received 88 pledges, totaling $300,000. That represents: • 33 increased pledges • 14 new pledges • 33 pledges with no change • 8 pledges with decreases
The goal remains 100 percent participation. If you have not registered your intention to give to God through Christ Church Cathedral, there’s still time. No amount is too large and no amount is too small. They all make a difference. If you have questions, this handy Q and A might help: How do I get a Pledge Card? There are Pledge Cards in the Narthex, at the south door, and at the office table. Just ask if you can’t find one. How can I submit a Pledge Card? You may mail in your Pledge Card, place it in the offering basin as it is passed any Sunday morning, or you may give it to a member of the Chapter, the Finance Committee, or to the Dean. How can I help even more? You can continue to pray with us. Try these words:
God of infinite blessing, when you fashioned the world the morning stars sang together and the host of heaven shouted for joy; open our eyes to the wonders of your creation and teach us to use all things for good, that we may be blessed and be a blessing so that all may live in your abundance; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Mother’s Day God our Creator, we pray for mothers: for new mothers, coming to terms with new responsibility; for expectant mothers, wondering and waiting; for those who are tired, stressed or depressed;
for those who struggle to balance the tasks of work and family; for those who are unable to feed their children due to poverty;
for those whose children have physical, mental or emotional disabilities;
for those who have children they do not want; for those who raise children on their own; for those who have lost a child;
for those who care for the children of others; for those whose children have left home;
for those whose desire to be a mother has not been fulfilled;
for all men and women who have mothered the next generation. Bless them—that their love may be deep and tender, and that they may lead our children to know and do what is good, living not for themselves alone, but for God and for others. Amen.
