Established in 1822, Christ Church Cathedral is the oldest house of worship in Louisville. The Cathedral has and continues to uphold the highest standard for music and worship. While the great traditions of the church are at risk of being lost in our culture, the Cathedral desires to maintain our heritage of Anglican music and historical liturgies while always looking forward and being relevant in our world today.

Na Skylark From ancient sean-nos tunes through O’Carolan and into the 1900’s, na Skylark takes audiences on a tour of history and life in Ireland, Scotland, and all the Celtic lands. Performed on Ireland’s iconic instruments: the Irish Harp, Uilleann Pipes, Irish Flutes, Tinwhistles & Irish Fiddle, and the American Mountain Dulcimer, the music is a truly unique experience that inspires and engages the audience.

Cathy Wilde Cathy is a member of several bands including the Kentucky “greengrass” favorite, Cloigheann, and has played at festivals around the region as well as on various radio and television programs. She has studied with uilleann piping legends Mick O’Brien, Paddy Keenan, Tommy Keane, and Eamonn Dillon among others. When not traveling for music, she shares a small farm in Shelbyville, Kentucky with carefully selected animals willing to tolerate her bagpipe-playing.

Lorinda Jones Lorinda’s background in classical piano and oboe provided a strong music background before she was introduced to the world of folk music. Now, Lorinda combines for love of music a music therapist, Lorinda reaching populations beyond the concert stage in schools, assisted living facilities, the Very Special Arts Kentucky, the Kentucky Center’s, ArtsIn-Healing program and through related work with her own company, Music Therapy Services of Central Kentucky. Locally, Lorinda leads the Heartland Dulcimer Club, the Heartland Harp ensemble, hosts a traditional music festival, and has taught many, many students how to play both the mountain dulcimer and folk harp. Nationally, Lorinda teaches and performs at music camps and festivals all across the nation, including the prestigious John C Campbell Folk School, Augusta Heritage Week, Kentucky Music Week, and many more.

Jannell Canerday Thanks to steady and strong musical currents running throughout her childhood, Jannell has been playing violin since before she can remember. A lifelong learner who got her start from the influence and instruction of free-improvisation pioneer/master teacher LaDonna Smith, as well as from rock-solid pianist/vocalist (& Jannell’s mother!) Delores Canerday, Jannell relies on music to help her make sense of this life. She has been steeping in the overlapping worlds of folk music, bluegrass, and traditional Irish music for more years than she wants to say, and is now more likely to call her instrument a “fiddle.” She is continually inspired by the many ways people use music to communicate and connect with each other and is grateful for every note she gets to share.

Oh, how good and pleasant it /is, * when brethren live toge/ther in unity! It is like fine oil upon the /head * that runs down /upon the beard,

Upon the beard of /Aaron, * and runs down upon the col/lar of his robe. It is like the dew of /Hermon * that falls upon the /hills of Zion.

The Lessons • silence is kept after each reading for reflection

First Lesson

Acts 20:28–32

Keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock, of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God that he obtained with the blood of his own Son. I know that after I have gone, savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Some even from your own group will come distorting the truth in

order to entice the disciples to follow them. Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to warn everyone with tears. And now I commend you to God and to the message of his grace, a message that is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all who are sanctified.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; * for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: * the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him * in every generation. refrain He has shown the strength of his arm, * he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, * and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, * and the rich he has sent away empty.. refrain

He has come to the help of his servant Israel, * for he has remembered his promise of mercy, The promise he made to our fathers, * to Abraham and his children for ever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. .

Second Lesson

Matthew 9:35–38

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for

The Apostles’ Creed officiant all

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving • said by all Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise for all that you have done for us. We thank you for the splendor of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love. We thank you for the blessing of family and friends, and for the loving care which surrounds us on every side.

We thank you for setting us at tasks which demand our best efforts, and for leading us to accomplishments which satisfy and delight us. We thank you also for those disappointments and failures that lead us to acknowledge our dependence on you alone.

Above all, we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of his Word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame temptation; for his dying, through which he overcame death; and for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom.

Grant us the gift of your Spirit, that we may know him and make him known; and through him, at all times and in all places, may give thanks to you in all things. Amen.

Music at the Cathedral

Established in 1822, Christ Church Cathedral is the oldest house of worship in Louisville. The Cathedral has and continues to uphold the highest standard for music and worship. While the great traditions of the church are at risk of being lost in our culture, the Cathedral desires to maintain our heritage of Anglican music and historical liturgies while always looking forward and being relevant in our world today. With this in mind, our worship reflects the contemplative nature of evening worship through Evensong to the joyous celebrations of the nativity and resurrection.

The Cathedral Choir

is the resident choral ensemble at the Cathedral, singing all principal services. The choir also sings services for the Diocese of Kentucky, monthly Evensongs, and the annual Advent Lessons and Carols. A mixed choir of adults, the choir sings music from all eras, while focusing approximately fifty percent of their repertoire to music by American composers. The Cathedral Choir and Canon Bozeman have been featured on both local and national public radio programs numerous times. Recordings available by the Cathedral Choir include An American Evening: Music by American Composers and Lux Aeterna-Music spanning a thousand years with the common theme of light. You may purchase copies following evensong in the narthex or through the Cathedral website. Join us for Eucharist each Sunday at 10:30 AM and visit the Cathedral’s website for additional service information.
