Happy Birthday, Swiss Club!

One of the oldest and most historic Clubs in Singapore turns 150 this year. It is a remarkable milestone that we look forward to aptly celebrating with the opening of the renovated Clubhouse.

Since its evolution from the Swiss Rifle Shooting Club in 1871, the Club has been the spirited centre of social life for not only the Swiss community, but all nationalities.

It is a given that, for any organisation, strength lies in numbers. For the Swiss Club to not only survive, but thrive, we require a healthy membership count.

Since the Club reopened during Phase Two of the Government’s Safe Management Measures in June last year, we have seen a progressive increase in these numbers. A major contributor was the very successful Swiss National Day 2020 Membership Drive in August, which ran till 15 September and saw a total of 127 new Members registered. Due to popular demand, the Club has also since reinstated the 1-Year Term Membership.

Noteworthy is the new events calendar on the Club website, which has been created to announce upcoming events. Just click on the date of each event for more information. However, as the planned events could be subject to postponement or cancellation, look out for the updates that are regularly posted in the weekly newsletter and on the website. With the new Clubhouse slated to become a bricks-andmortar reality very soon, we hope you are as excited as we are at the prospect of its opening. Yes, we have managed to overcome all the difficulties that the past year brought with it, and trust that you will be overjoyed with your pristine new Clubhouse.

With the Clubhouse opening, Club events and activities planned and F&B outlets operating, it is almost business as usual – or what is now often referred to as the ‘new normal’. The only difference is that the maximum capacity for events remains subject to changing Government advisories.

As you are probably aware, we have postponed the official 150th anniversary celebration to 2022. However, do look forward to smaller celebratory ‘Members only’ events during the rest of this year, with the premier one coming up soon – the official opening of the immaculately restored Clubhouse.
