The task BRIO typeface 16 students, working together, create some 80 letters and glyphs using the tracks of a BRIO wooden train set. Besides being fun to play with, the many modules in the BRIO Railway System can be combined to create individual characters within the geometric limitations of the tracks. »» interact within a font. Each student is made responsible for five letters assigned by lot. Practical aspects It quickly becomes evident that the (young) typographer is a herd animal. In groups of three to four participants, the aspiring typographers assemble all the uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet as well as a few special characters, any number of variations and even the occasional stop motion animation – all within just eight hours. ««

Christoph Walz wears many hats. Since completing his studies in Schwäbisch Gmünd and Vancouver, he has settled in Munich, where he has worked as a designer in a number of fields. Film and photography are also important to him, both professionally and as a private hobby.
