EDITOR’S
letter
Continuum; uninterrupted existence or succession. After months of continuously producing innovative work, Chroma Magazine will go on its first summer hiatus. When Chroma returns, the wonderfully talented Kastine Cook will take the helm as she transitions into the Editor’s position. This last issue in our first Volume of Chroma is meant to serve as a celebratory finale to a publication that has promoted local artists, acted as a space to explore imaginative concepts, and as encouragement to the creative spirit. As this is my last issue as Editor, I’d just like to thank the incredible Abby Harris for her constant support and guidance throughout the process of creating Chroma. Additionally, I want to acknowledge the brilliant photographers enrolled at the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics for their dedication to their artwork as well as Chroma. Though I will not be returning in the fall, I undoubtedly know that Chroma will continue to be an artistic beacon for chromatic visionaries. I hope you found inspiration in the work of these very talented individuals & thank you for reading Chroma Magazine. Ruby Becker Editor (2015 - 2016)

WASHINGTON D.C. olivia madrid I took this series while on vacation in Washington DC. A lot of the architecture was older than what we have on the west coast, so it was a nice change to take photos of.

roots
kaylee kepple I wanted to tribute the wonderful place I am so thankful to live in, showcase the beauty we are constantly surrounded by, and catch subjects in their natural state. I strived for the beauty within the subjects to radiate and be the center focus. Because I will no longer be living in the PNW in a few short months, the series was a way for me to show gratitude for all the wonderful memories, fresh air, and evergreen this state has to offer/provided me all these years.

GRIDLOCKED betsy hanrahan
For this project, I created a series of collages of my photos. For the background, I zoomed in very close on pictures I had taken. I took screenshots of the pixelscapes to use as backgrounds. I then used photos I had taken at the beach and at the Portland Art Museum as overlays. I used curves and the invert layer alter the overlay pictures. The title of the series, “Gridlocked, was inspired by the grids of pixels, as well as the too often reoccurring feeling of not knowing what to do, or feeling uninspired.
lucia falls kastine cook Model: Greta Dubois For my final series I chose to shoot up at Lucia Falls. I not only chose documented the landscape, but the time I had with my friend Greta while exploring the area.

URBAN INSIGHT adam brendgard Location: San Francisco, California
As a tourist, you’re limited to perceiving the location you’re visiting as an outsider; limited to what many see as an altered, unrealistic perception. I had the opportunity to travel to San Francisco in early April, where I sought to explore and identify the well-known and unknown views of The City by the Bay. Ranging from skyscrapers to seawalls, the city’s urban identity is one moderately found yet remarkably varying. Urban Insight aims to successfully define what characterizes the metropolis landscape and discover the various oddities that spur among patterns.

ZION keston kuechel I created a series of photos that I took in Zion National Park. I took these photos with a 10mm wide angle lens, in an attempt to capture the sheer scale of the rock formations. I then edited them to focus more on form and texture rather than color, which is often something many photographers focus on when taking photos of National Parks.

a year later jane greene I curated some portraits I’ve taken over this year, one for each month of this past school year that I felt represented my growth throughout this year. I chose the months September, October, December, March, and April.
