On Saturday, February 4, 2023 the 10th Annual Eli Run was held at House Divided Bar & Grill in Greenville, SC. Hundreds of people turned out for the charity ride, which raises money to benefit children in the memory of Eli Jackson, whose life ended tragically when he was hit by a falling tree in his own back yard in 2009. He was only two and a half. With great bravery and love, his mother, Kristy Wallace, together with a dedicated and amazing group of volunteers, commemorate his birthday every year with a charity run in his honor. And they and the community are surely doing it right! Spirits were high as the ride kicked off, bidding at the auction was generous, and the party back at House Divided, where The James Radford Band performed, was absolutely ROCKIN’! The whole day was filled with friendship and laughter as the biker community came together in celebration of Eli’s birthday. The warmth and caring of the organizers was definitely well matched by the attendees as the total amount of money raised was over $20,500!
Great job and Happy Birthday, Eli!

Eli Ride Raised $21,000
Eli's Ride is to honor Kristy son's memory. This year; 2023, the 10th Annual ride/fundraiser, honored Eli's memory by helping Cruz, #CruzStrong.
In April of 2022, Cruz was diagnosed with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, or HLH. HLH is an aggressive and life-threatening syndrome of excessive immune activation. In February 2023, they found the driving force of Cruz’s HLH when he was diagnosed with Hepatosplenic T-cell Lymphoma. HSTCL is hard to diagnose because it hides in the spleen/ liver and often times mimics HLH. It can also cause hemophagocytic disorders which is why the HLH is secondary to this cancer.
Among other issues, this disease has attacked his bone marrow. He currently is in Cincinnati in the PICU. His spleen is swollen and pushing on his intestines, liver and lungs. He's on oxygen right now and sedated while undergoing scans. Their hope is to find the source of this disease, treat it accordingly and strengthen him for a bone marrow transplant.
Follow #CruzStong FB Page for more information on Cruz.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!
Now is the time for us to work on contacting our elected officials in the House of Representatives and ask them to help push the hands free bill H 3394 into committee and if they are willing add their name as a co-sponsor. Some may not want to add their name as bills can be amended and with their name on it they now support a different version. While we understand their viewpoint that doesn’t mean they can’t help move it into committee.
If you need help figuring this out, or better yet, would be willing for us to attend a chapter meeting to go over our legislative priorities please contact me at the number below. Bills on the move:

Several South Carolina Roads To Be Repaved in 2023! Did You Know??
2022-2023 Pavement improvement Program
Rehab and Reconstruction Projects on the Primaries, Farm to Market Secondaries and Neighborhood Streets
An additional 1133+ miles of paving projects contained in the 2022-2023 Pavement Improvement Program will be added to the previously approved 5,038+ miles of paving projects advanced since the implementation of Act 40 2017 and incorporated the "New Gas Tax Trust Fund" transparency and accountability reports.
South Carolina
is the 4th Largest State Highway System in the United States & ranked 10th for Fastest Population Growth Rate in the United States
The New Gas Tax Trust Fund
Above, see how the money is being used to fund $3 Billion in road and bridge work across the state. In 2017, The General Assembly passed legislation to increase the State gas tax by 12 cents by phasing in the increase at 2 cents per year for six years. These funds are deposited into a new trust fund called the Infrastructure Maintenance Trust Fund (IMTF).
These new revenues, coupled with other Federal and State funds, form the Financial foundation of SCDOT's ten year plan and performance targets.

" The Bottom Line Upfront: Excellent progress is being made towards getting to a state of good repair. Now we must incorporate projects to deal with the growth and economic development needs of our state."
Statement released by SCDOT
This year at Mecum's Las Vegas auction, a rare bike nearly sold for nearly $1 million, and it wasn't a Henderson, or an MV Agusta, not even a Vincent or a rare Indian. Nope. It was a Harley-Davidson.
MILLION DOLLAR MOTORCYCLE, SET A RECORD FOR MECUM
This particular Strap Tank was found by motorcycle collector David Uihlein in 1941, and he kept it for 66 years. Yes, it was restored, but it's one of the most correct and original bikes from that era. It has the original tank, wheels, engine belt pulley, seat cover and muffler sleeve
The most expensive motorcycle sold this year at the 2023 Mecum auction was a 1908 Harley-Davidson Strap Tank. This rare bike has an interesting pedigree that makes it a one of a kind. Less than a dozen of these bikes exist, however this one could be the most original. This Strap Tank, so called because the gas tank and oil tank are held to the bicycle-like frame with nickel strap, is one of the oldest surviving HDs and predates panhead Harleys by decades.
Yes, that's a lot of scratch for an old Harley. It's not the most expensive motorcycle ever sold, but it is the most expensive bike ever sold by Mecum in Vegas. It wasn't the first Strap Tank that Mecum ever sold, in 2021 the company sold a 1907 Strap Tank for $297,000. But this bike has a well-documented history, as well as well-documented original 115-year-old parts.
When the auction gavel fell, the bike went for $850,000. That works out to $935,000 after auction fees.

Dalton Nichols ’ Scholarship
Dalton Nichols was killed in a failure to yield collision on December 03, 2021. Dalton loved the freedom and peace of riding. This scholarship seeks to honor the life of Dalton Nichols by supporting one student with the knowledge and training to complete and receive their motorcycle endorsements through the MSF Basic Rider Course.
The Basic Rider Course is a research-based and action-oriented core curriculum designed to teach beginning motorcyclists of all ages the physical and mental skills necessary to ride safely on the street. The course includes basic motorcycle operation, maximum effective braking techniques, turning skills, obstacle avoidance maneuvers, classroom instruction and ten hours of “on cycle” training. Rider Coaches for the program are all experienced motorcycle operators whoare nationally certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF).
Motorcycles are provided for your use during the course. A course completion card is provided to each student. The completion card could provide a discount on motorcycle insurance with many providers, retailers, and online sites that may offer you discounts or free shipping just by mentioning you are a MSF graduate. Lastly, we conduct the SC motorcycle rider’s skill test at the end of class. Successful riders earn their SC motorcycle license endorsement.
This 2-Day-Learn to Ride Course W/License Waiver ($299 value) will take place at 185 Simuel Road Spartanburg, SC.
Any student aged 18 and above may apply by writing a 1000 word or less essay on the topic of distracted driving in South Carolina; and what you feel needs to change to prevent future fatalities due to a failure to yield. (Research suggestions include ABATE, SCDMV, Motorcycle Attorneys, Motorcycle Training Coaches)
All essays should be emailed to: DoolinDaltonLookTwiceSaveALife@outlook.com
The Dalton Nichols’ Scholarship will be presented in person April 15, 2023 at 2:00pm at the 2nd Annual Doolin Dalton Awareness RideTimm’s Harley Davidson in Anderson, SC.

The “Journey of Two”, March 4th, 2023 will be
life of Dalton Nichols.
On Saturday, March 4th, the plan is to head to Amicalola Falls State Park for “The Journey of Two”, send off. Dalton loved to hike. Other than his motorcycle and music, hiking was the place where Dalton was most at peace.
His mother Sherri announced “We are so blessed, that Jason Koons, has offered to travel with Dalton's ashes from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Katahdin, Maine.” This will be a journey of 2,190 miles total. “Jason will document his journey with Dalton as he travels.” The anticipation, of Jason not having Internet asscess for some periods of time, is an unfortunate circumstance. However, Sherri hopes for prayer and encouraging words on “The Journey of Two” Facebook Group Page.
The March 4, 2023 Ride Plan posted for anyone, wanting to participate, as follows:
(Georgia Law Helmet Required) Cages welcomed Meet at Bountyland Quick Stop Exxon Walhalla Main Street
KSU 8:00 AM
This ride is 68 miles . Approximately 2hrs. We will top off at a half way point. $5.00 entry fee into the park. RSVP if you plan to ride with us. We will need a head count for lunch. We will meet Jason for an introduction and present him with a necklace of Dalton's ashes.
We will say goodbye with prayers and well wishes.
We will leave the state park at approximately 1pm. and stop at a specified destination for lunch and return home.
*If you would like to offer Jason a VISA gift card for re-supply food, equipment, etc please feel free.
In the event that Jason is not able to complete his journey he will pass Dalton's ashes off to another hiker to fulfill Dalton's “AT” dream.

A LITTLE TIME AWAY
Devotional By Dennis Reynolds
On more days than not, I receive over a hundred phone calls, fifty to sixty text messages, and a couple hundred emails. This is not an exaggeration, and it can be horribly stressful. Then, there are the day-to-day issues with my family, the people who are working for me, and within our ministry.
There are times when I feel as though I am standing in a river on a rock, on my tip toes, with the water level just between my top lip and my nose. The current is rushing by and trying to push me off that rock, and at any second, if I lose my focus, I’ll be swept away to drown.
Like many of you, there are times when I just need a day in the saddle, with a few brothers, and no agenda.
Early on the morning of the Martin Luther King Jr holiday, I climbed on my Street Glide and headed out to meet some of my friends for a day of riding and fellowship. We had no plan, no direction in mind, and no certain time to be home. I had forwarded my calls to my lead technician, dropped my work phone into my saddlebag, and had no plans to retrieve it until I arrived back home that evening.
A local Family Dollar parking lot is our usual meeting place as it is centrally located and easily accessible. We loosely chose Brevard North Carolina for our destination which was a couple of hours away. The route provided quite a few twisty mountain roads to ride, which is what we were looking for. We decided if we made it there, that was fine, if not, no big deal.
It always amazes me how a simple day ride through some beautiful countryside can ease tensions and turmoil. As the turns came and went, my stress level dropped to a minimum and allowed me the opportunity to reflect on more important things. Gone were the barrage of emails, constant work-related phone calls and texts, and the day-to-day rigors of being a people manager, and in their place was a peace that can only come from time spent enjoying the beauty of God’s creation.
We eventually made it to Brevard where we sat down for a fantastic meal at the Hawg Wild Barbecue restaurant. Great friends, great food, and a great ride! Not wishing to give up such an awesome day too soon, we decided on a longer route home which would provide more twisties, mountain scenery, and stress relief.
That evening, I sat down with my Bible and read from God’s word. While reflecting on the wonderful day we had, I was able to offer prayers of thanks to God for the blessing of being able to get out and ride.
Between our jobs, our kids, and maintaining our personal lives there seems to be a never-ending cycle that causes us worry. Will the bills get paid? Can I afford the home repairs? Who is going to take the kids to soccer practice?
With all the stuff of life constantly bombarding us, sometimes we need to take a break and just get away.
Jesus was well acquainted with stress. Everywhere he traveled, people were coming to him in droves. He was simultaneously preaching to crowds in the thousands, healing the sick and afflicted, casting out demons, and teaching those who traveled with him. He could not walk in the streets without people wanting to get near him and touch him. The political and religious leaders of the day were plotting against him. Everyone wanted something from him.
Even though he was the Savior of the world, he was also fully human and felt the same frustrations with life that we do.
So, how did Jesus deal with stress? What did he do to cope with all the things that were coming against him? The answers to those questions are found in the pages of the Holy Bible.
Jesus regularly took opportunities to visit places where he could get away from the rat race that was his life. He often went off by himself and just spend time alone with God. He would sit and rest, pray, and recharge his batteries.
We may think we can handle everything that life throws at us and just keep going, but that is not the case. We need to take time to slow down, disconnect from the things that cause us stress, and just unwind. For me, that usually consists of a day ride with friends. For you it could be a fishing trip, or even an afternoon drive out into the country. Just remember, whatever you do, include God in your plans, because He is the ultimate cure for everything that ails us.
“The news about him, spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
Luke 5:15-16 NIV

Tom Mcgrath’s Motorcycle Law Group Yearly Bike Giveaway
Submitted by Shannon Rights
Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group has always given back to our riding community, and a huge part of that is the yearly Motorcycle Giveaway. Each year from October 15th to the following October 15th, when you see us out at events, you can register for our FREE Motorcycle Giveaway.
On November 1st of each year, we draw one winner from all the registrations that we receive throughout the year. All the winner must do is insure the bike. Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group pays the tax, title, and tags. We even deliver the bike. Not to sound like a cliché, but we really do come to you. We make sure that we choose different brands and dealerships
each year so that everyone has a chance to win their dream bike. We like to make sure that we show our local dealerships that we support them as well. That is why we always purchase a bike from a dealership in one of our service states. We believe that we should support those who support others in our communities.
The 2022 giveaway bike was a brand-new Indian Scout in Black Metallic paint with chrome trim work. You know the old saying about chrome, so we won’t go there. It has an 1133cc liquid cooled v-twin with 100 HP and six speed transmission. This little baby has some get up and go along with great styling from an iconic motorcycle brand.
November 18, 2022, brought a chilly but clear Carolina day, and our founder, Tom McGrath, met up with attorney Daisha Schwear and South Carolina event coordinator Jay Wright to deliver the bike. South Carolina biker, Jennifer Bell, was the lucky winner for 2022. Jennifer is a regular at the Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group sponsored bike nights at Harley Davidson of Greenville. The 2022 Indian Scout is Jennifer’s first bike. Don’t misunderstand, Jennifer is no stranger to riding. Now though, she won’t be riding on the back of someone else’s bike. We wish Jennifer many, many miles of safe and happy riding! Look for her at next year’s bike nights on that beautiful Indian Scout.
2023 is off to a great start already! Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group will be revealing the 2023 giveaway bike at their booth during the Full Throttle Custom bike show in Greensboro, NC on January 14, 2023. Make sure that you stop in and see the new bike, and while you are there, register to win it. Who knows, you may be the next Jennifer Bell.
