Welcome & Course Description Introduction to Digital Technology is the foundational course for Web & Digital Design pathway. This course is designed for high school students to understand, communicate, and adapt to a digital world as it impacts their personal life, society, and the business world. Exposure to foundational knowledge in hardware, software, programming, web design, IT support, and networks are all taught in a computer lab with handson activities and project-focused tasks. Students will not only understand the concepts, but apply their knowledge to situations and defend their actions/decisions/ choices through the knowledge and skills acquired in this course.

Employability skills are integrated into activities, tasks, and projects throughout the course standards to demonstrate the skills required by business and industry. Competencies in the co-curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), are integral components of both the employability skills standards and content standards for this course.

Various forms of technologies will be highlighted to expose students to the

emerging technologies impacting the digital world. Professional communication skills and practices, problem-solving, ethical and legal issues, and the impact of effective presentation skills are taught in this course as a foundational knowledge to prepare students to be college and career ready. The knowledge and skills taught in this course build upon each other to form a comprehensive introduction to digital world.

Introduction to Digital Technology is a course that is appropriate for all high school students.

WEB AND DIGITAL DESIGN PATHWAY

Issue Date Mission and Philosophy Statement Business and Computer Science is an integral part of the total education program. Its mission is to develop and apply the use of technology and business concepts that are essential for all students. Business and Computer Science teaches the necessary information to develop critical-thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and teamworking skills to prepare students for entry-level employment and post-secondary education. The Business and Computer Science curriculum is designed, delivered, evaluated, and updated to provide flexible opportunities for career exploration necessitated by our changing world.

INTERNET USAGE IN CLASS SETTING In order to enhance student learning, students will use the Internet daily as a resource tool for this class.

While in a Business and Computer Science lab, students will comply with the Technology Use Policy for Cook County Schools. Failure to follow county mandated guidelines would result in punishment that ranges from loss of privileges to administrative referral. All students and parents are required to sign acknowledgement of Internet guidelines prior to a student using the Internet.

ARTICULATION/COLLEGE CREDIT Articulation is a partnership agreement between Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and our school system that allows a student to earn college credit for courses taken in high school. Specific requirements to receive credit apply.

Cook High is not currently offering articulation of Intro to Digital Design.

Future Business Leaders of America

FBLA is a co-curricular student organization in Business and Computer Science that promotes leadership, career planning, community service, and social networking. Membership is strongly encouraged for all students enrolled in this course. Dues are $15.00 for local, state, and national membership. Dues may be paid in my classroom, and any checks should be made payable to Cook High FBLA.

Assignment grades will be given on work done in class, homework, quizzes, tests, and/or projects. The number of these assignments will vary each grading period. Some grades (tests, projects) will be counted more than once. These will be averaged together and reflect the eight weeks grade. The final exam counts 20% of the final average.

A = 90-100 B = 80-89 C = 70-79 F = 69 and below Weighted Grades - Grades for honors level classes will be increased by 2 points each semester. Grades for Advanced Placement courses will be increased by 4 points each semester.
