SWINGING TOWARDS THE FUTURE: CHS golfer John Peters will be continuing his athletic career at Duke University. Peters took third at PIAA states in 2019 and played a huge role in bringing a Mid-Penn title to the golf team this year. TAKE TIME TO AIM: Rachel Bell will be representing the girls basketball team at the next level when she competes at Lebanon Valley College. Bell helped to lead the team to an impressive showing this winter before Covid issues forced the season to end early.
GOOD TO GO: Christian Good will be representing the football team at Thiel College in the fall. Good will be missed on the CHS field for his strong presence on the offensive line.

MAT MVP: Senior Sean Smith won a district title for the Herd this winter. He will compete for Kutztown University next year.
While the class of 2021 will all be saying goodbye to their classmates, their teachers, and the classrooms they2ve come to call home, many have had to decide whether or not to say farewell to another familiar aspect of their lives: their involvement in sports. Many seniors in this class have decided to continue playing their particular athletic endeavor at the collegiate level. We even had 19 seniors sign commitment letters to their prospective schools, ensuring they will have place on the team when they start next year. However, others have decided that it2s time to move on to new possibilities. 0With my goals of becoming a veterinarian, I decided that it was best for me to focus on academics since college sports can be time consuming and stressful if not managed properly,1 said cheerleader Audrey Crocker. In making this choice, these athletes know that they will be losing an important part of their lives so far, while also gaining new opportunities. 0[I2ll miss] being a part of a team and becoming family with people you never expected you would be,1 said softball player Makayla Goddard. Others will miss the spotlight. 0[I2ll miss] just being able to put a jersey on and playing in front of a huge crowd,1 basketball player Anthony Rouvre said. Some, like runner Andrew Booth, are going to take advantage of what their college offers as ways to stay active. 0I2ll continue to play club sports,1 Booth said. 0[However,] I2m sad to lose that possibility of training my hardest and racing against great competition.1

LIVING ART: Seniors Mattingly Brummer, Kiley Barnhart, Jonas Fowler and Paisley Weaver join teacher James Wilkinson (middle) in front of hand-painted art built by National Art Honors Society for a quick snap. ON THE MOVE: Senior Ameer Brown moves to his own beat on the dance floor early on in the night. CROWD SUPPORT: Seniors Sam Bartosik-Velez and Jonas Fowler sing along to music at prom with their group of friends.
GARDEN GALA: PROM 2021 REIMAGINED Prom in 2021 is a bit of an unconventional experience, as there are so many deviations from its original format. In most years there is a venue usually on the Army barracks, dancing, food and picture booths. This year however, prom was held on campus in a tent which is a creative way to keep seniors safe and outside while still holding this traditional high school experience. Masks were required, and many people coordinated their masks with their dresses and tuxedos for a clean look. Dancing with the DJ made prom this year very upbeat, and by 9 o2clock everyone was dancing! Pictures in the picture booth in the cafeteria drew crowds for candids and couple pictures. Congratulations to Nolan Chenot and Sophie Salomone on winning prom king and queen!
MAKING MEMORIES: Cara Schell, Lydia Welling, Alex Pryor and Anna Chin pose for a selfie on the dance floor. HOME DECOR: Seniors Heidi Heinlein and Zakary Kemp pose under the arch for a cute couple photo together. This year2s prom, located under a marquis tent on campus, was set up by the junior class council even though the juniors were unable to attend. CENTER OF ATTENTION: Tyler Sandoval and Jonathan Cox front a large group of students dancing. This was the first school dance of the year. page design: Kathleen O Neill and Deanna Kennedy photography: Camera Box, Mrs. Muir 0

CLOSING NIGHT
The talented students of the senior class were limited to what and where they could perform this year. This year, they look back at past events under the spotlight and remember their favorite moments as performers at CHS. 1-Seniors Reese Daugherty, Anna Crawford, and Josetta Checkett are flanked by alumnus Liam Crider and former CHS student Bennett Solomon in The Merry Wives of Windsor from their freshman year Shakespeare Fall Festival. 2-Makayla McVay performs as a member of the ensemble in Chicago (bottom right) during her junior year. 3-Senior Olivia Renault performs in the CHS original reworking, Love s Labors Tossed, with alumni Brianna Murray and Lauren Waring. This was the last spring full-play Shakespeare performance before Covid restrictions.

Nostalgia
Where Does The Time Go?
Only kids who grew up in the 2000s will remember what it felt like to collect silly bandz and play CDs and DVDs on their radio or box TV. They remember racing raindrops down windows, singing against the fan pretending it was auto tune. They remember racing scooters in the streets until the street lights came on and wearing Heelies indoors. And who could forget watching the original Disney Channel or Cartoon Network, playing on their DS, eating otter pops or saving money for the scholastic book fair. They remember being a child, in the early days when they did not have to grow up; now they have and are lucky to hold onto the memories.
14
Sanyia Brown 0I love how we were all outside, and then when we were inside, TV was very different. It wasn't all about smart phones and Disney was actually still for kids and just was so natural to life. We were actually being kids and not on Facebook or Snapchat. [We were] just asking for sleepovers and watching TV together.1 Makayla Goddard 0[I loved] being outside, playing with the neighbors until the streetlights came on and then going home to eat dinner and shower and go watch your favorite cartoons.1 Brody Kuykendall 0[I remember] definitely all the TV shows during the early 2000s--there were some really great ones that I'm upset aren't on the air anymore.1 Caroline Shatzer 0When I was in elementary school, I really loved the Scholastic book fair (do they still do those?) especially all the random stuff you could buy besides the books, like slap-bands and finger pointers.1 Kyleigh Zenewicz 0The cartoons of the 2000s and the music are still a staple in my life today.1 Andrew Swidler0I remember I used to love Nickelodeon and Disney Channel growing up and just watching the shows with my friends--that2s what I enjoyed most growing up in the early 2000s.1

This was my first year in Periscope and I loved being a part of such a vibrant community of journalists. Though my time in the class was brief, I enjoyed every story I got to write and publish, as well as learning a lot from my fellow writers. My only regret is not getting involved in the Periscope staff sooner, though I plan to continue writing for local papers in college! Thanks to the rest of the Periscope staff and Ms. Muir for a wonderful senior year! :)

It has been a long ride with my Periscope family, 3 years to be exact. My Junior year I had no space in my schedule for Periscope, and that made it one of the longest years of my life. I have loved every minute in M34. From food parties to deadline crunches there has never been a moment where a frustration has gone unheard or an encouraging word has gone unsaid. Muir, you have always been there to pick me up and help me fix any problem I have faced. Thank you for everything you have done for me these past years. You have made high school the amazing experience it has been for me. I will miss you most of all! Goodbye Periscope! - Kathleen O2Neill
The Ober Family Scholarship Emma Daron, Jordan Lamason, Melisa Mustafic I have been a part of the Periscope family for three years. I chose to take a break my Junior year and realized that I could not live without M34. It is like any other home and family, you go through many ups and downs, but you always come back because it is what you love. Thank you for always being there when I needed you! Bye bye :(
