HAITI
SINCE THE 2010 EARTHQUAKE, THE INTER-AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK (IDB) HAS STEPPED UP ITS SUPPORT TO TURN THE CATASTROPHE INTO AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP HAITI ONTO A PATH OF SUSTAINED ECONOMIC GROWTH AND IMPROVED SOCIAL WELFARE.
We are Haiti’s largest multilateral donor. To support Haiti’s recovery, the IDB Board of Governors agreed to provide the country with an unprecedented financial assistance package, including the cancelation of its outstanding debt of $484 million. Additionally, the Board agreed to finance the IDB Grant Facility with annual transfers of $200 million from its Ordinary Capital for Haiti through 2020, subject to approval by the Bank’s governors. This commitment puts us in a unique position to work with a long-term vision.
