What is CIMA Professional Development? CIMA professional development, the continuing professional development scheme for CIMA members, gives you the freedom to choose how you are going to develop. CIMA doesn’t prescribe numbers of hours or units, you do as much as you need to remain professionally competent and advance your career. The scheme is designed to provide you with a structured means to: • develop the skills and knowledge you need for your ongoing role as a professional in business • document your progress. It uses the CIMA professional development cycle to help you work through the scheme and to make sure that you get the most from your development activities.
CIMA professional development cycle
Define – current and desired roles recognising expectations of employers among others. Assess – development needs to establish knowledge or skill gaps. Design and Act – choose and undertake development activities that meet your development needs. Reflect – upon and document the outcome of each development activity. Evaluate – progress against the objectives set at the beginning of the year. Any outstanding development can be carried over into the next cycle. As a CIMA member you need to record your development activity using one of six approved formats. You need to keep your development records for a rolling three year period. CIMA will audit a random sample of members each year. For more information on planning and recording your CPD visit www.cimaglobal.com/cpd where you can also view the CPD webcast which explains the CPD policy.
