NEWS CGMA launch The Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation was launched on 31 January 2012. CGMA is the result of a joint venture between the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in an effort to produce a 'gold standard' designation for management accounting globally. The designation is a single global quality standard, so you can move CGMAs with confidence around the organisation and around the world. CGMAs are business strategists who apply non-financial, qualitative information alongside financial analysis to understand all aspects of a business. You can trust CGMAs to guide and support critical business decisions and drive strong business performance. All CIMA members are automatically entitled to use the CGMA designation.
Rebooting business: Valuing the human dimension This report marks the launch of the new Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation. We surveyed 280 CEOs online from over 21 countries across the world to understand how they viewed current global challenges and what they saw as the priorities in leading their way through them. Their overwhelming response was that the human dimensions of business – for example, customer and supplier relationships, talent development as well as intellectual capital – will be the focus over the next 18-24 months. The more detailed sections of the report explore the results of our CEO survey in more depth and provide additional insights from our C-suite interviews around the following core themes: 1. Understanding and unlocking value in the human dimension. 2. Short-term focus versus long-term sustainable success. 3. Grasping the power of transparency. 4. Working in collaboration to connect the dots. http://www.cgma.org/Resources/Reports/DownloadableDocuments/CGMA_launch_report.pdf
CIMA presents Gateway scholarships to graduates of Manchester Business School Since the launching of CIMA Masters Gateway in 2010 we have collaborated with many university partners to provide scholarships in encouraging their MBA graduates to pursue CIMA as well as praising the excellent performance of their students. On 18 January Mr. Damian Yip, Market Director presented a Certificate of Attainment together with GBP500 worth of scholarship to Mr Steven Lin in congratulating his outstanding achievement in the 2011 gateway exam. “Through setting up scholarship schemes with top universities we can surely attract more high calibre to join CIMA, and hence contribute to the association in various aspects in the near future ” commented Damian. Steven Lin, the award winner and graduate from the Manchester Business School revealed the reason for pursuing the management accounting professional qualification after MBA. “CIMA is a professional management accounting qualification that differs from MBA degree. It provides insight for finance skills that should be competent in related position both in corporate banking and its clients. That's why I want to attend the gateway exam.” Meanwhile he also shared some tips for students sitting or planning to sit the exam. “Knowledge of basis accounting is needed for preparing the gateway exam. Attending official preparation courses also saved my time and raised my self-confidence.” We shall look forward to presenting more scholarships to remarkable performances in future. 2
