HK accountants trip to Huangshan – 7-9 May 2011 In early May the liaison office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR organised a trip to one of the most scenic places in China, Huangshan. There were 16 accounting related organisations who took part with our Dr WS Li, Divisional Vice-President and Damian Yip, Divisional Director representing CIMA. The location was selected as it provided a strong Chinese heritage but also a leisure surrounding to discuss some current issues including the Hong Kong economy, the political climate, the next elections for the chief executive and the of grooming the next generation of accountants. Each organisation had a chance to express their views towards these topics and also listen to some feedback from the liaison office. For those who have never been to Huangshan, it is a mountain range in southern Anhui province in eastern China. It is especially well known for its scenery, sunsets, granite peaks and Huangshan Pine trees. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China's major tourist destinations. The Huangshan mountain range comprises many peaks, some more than 1,000 meters. The tallest and best-known peak is Lotus Peak (Lian Hua Feng, 1,864 m) which we gave a miss but we did venture on a 5 hour hike upto Bright Summit Peak (Guang Ming Ding, 1,840 m). Joining the trip was Philip Tsai, President of HKICPA as the trip leader and the Hon Paul MP Chan, Legislative Councillor (Accountancy) as the trip consultant.

Coincidently the new Hong Kong office was officially open by the George Glass, President on his recent trip to the territory.? The ribbon cutting ceremony was followed by a traditional roast pig-cutting ceremony signifying the ‘opening of a prosperous pathway for blooming business’. Attending the event were our honourable officers and also some fellow members of our institute. The office now meets our futures needs as if occupies a larger premise in Causeway Bay, one of the busiest places in Hong Kong. The new Times Square office is easily accessible to people living across the territory, especially with the cross harbour bus stops and MTR just at our footstep. The new premises provides adequate space for small classes for students and seminars for members in additional to a better layout for staff to work in.
