Understanding rosacea

HL Professional’s combination of in-salon treatments and homecare are key to targeting rosacea

T

he beautiful soft pink glow of a blush is what every woman would like to preserve on her cheeks. However, blotchy red spots and irregular patches of irritable skin are problems that no one wants. Rosacea is a common condition, and in medical terms it is also called cuperosis. Blood vessels dilate and open up, showing redness through the skin’s surface, especially at the sides of the nose, on the cheeks, chin, and forehead. This can develop into bumpy and sometimes pus-filled spots that be extremely painful and similar to adult acne. The nose can also become runny and swollen, a condition called rhinophyma. The rejuvenation of skin with rosacea is extremely slow. The causes of rosacea are debatable, although a number of potential factors have been suggested. It seems to be common in families, which suggests it could be a genetic condition. Sun damage, greasy cosmetics, diet and stress may be responsible for degeneration of the elastic tissue of the skin and the dilation of blood vessels. Recent research has shown external triggers such as sun damage, greasy cosmetics, spicy food, alcohol, exercise, stress, red wine, heat and cold can lead to the activation of certain peptides within the skin. Increased levels of these peptides may affect the immune system or neurovascular system (nerves and blood vessels) of the skin, which can in turn cause dilation of blood vessels, redness and inflammation. The HL Professional skincare cosmeceuticals

brand offers a comprehensive programme specially designed for effective synergy between the in-salon treatment and homecare solutions to rosacea, allowing skincare professionals to target the cause of the problem. The HL Professional Peels are key to achieving noticeable results without irritation. These peels are formulated for professional treatments, based on high concentrations of AHAs, BHA, and natural retinol extracts to provide real results when treating rosacea. The power of the salonstrength HL Professional Peels series lies in the strength (I-V) and suitability of the natural active ingredients. The 24-34 per cent acid blends have an approximate pH of 3.6–3.9, which significantly accelerates the skin’s natural renewal process. The brand’s treatments are also suitable for all skin types, designed to reduce the appearances of wrinkles, ageing lines, acne scarring, stretch marks, and pigmentation issues. HL Professional also recommends that clients undergoing in-salon treatments should continue looking after the skin at home. The Lactolan, Calm Red, Phytomide and Bio Repair skincare lines have been designed to renew, rejuvenate, rehabilitate and balance skins suffering with rosacea. The brand helps its clients to avoid red skin by providing a step-by-step skincare regimen for use at home. This includes: • Probiotic – a creamy, gentle cleanser, based on probiotics and plant extracts to help the skin find its natural balance

and to better protect it from harmful environmental factors • Phytomide – a non-alcohol calming toner with ceramides, which helps in regulating the moisture and nutrition balance, especially in dry skin • Alpha Beta Retinol – a restoring cream that helps achieve visible results in skin renewal, increasing blood flow, generating new cells, promoting collagen synthesis and stimulating the skin’s natural healing mechanisms • Calm Red – an active, moisturising serum with encapsulated vitamins and soothing botanical extracts to relieve irritation, strengthen the tissue and diminish redness. Intersharm is the sole UK distributor of HL Professional skincare and its HL Education course teaches therapists how to detect the cause and mechanism of a skin’s problem and find a decision to resolve it. Its commitment to education enables beauty professionals to become advanced skin experts with better knowledge and understanding of cosmeceutical products and treatments. It offers a scientific standard in the professional approach for correcting problematic skin. E: info@holyland-uk.com Holyland-uk. com
