INDUSTRY UPDATE
Senior Pet Month
N
ovember is Senior Pet Month, and with 57% of us owning a pet at some point, it’s important to know how to get as many years with your pet as possible. To help keep senior pets in better health and enjoying their golden years for even longer, pet experts at TrustedHousesitters have joined forces with veterinary surgeon, Pete Wedderburn. “As humans, we know that if we want to live for as long as possible, we need to focus on issues like diet, exercise, sleep, mental health and minimising stress. For our pets, the same general principles apply”, Pete says. Five ways to increase the life, and quality of life, of your senior pet are to adapt their diet as they age, invest in key supplements, keep mental stimulation and enrichment going, understanding that dental health is vital and ensure you’re minimising stressors for your pets. As with mental health, older pets can
be more affected by stress than their younger counterparts. Pete explains, “Try to understand what your pet likes and what upsets them. As a good example, if you go away on holiday, consider having
them cared for by a petsitter in your own home, rather than subjecting them to the stress of boarding kennels or a cattery”. Visit https://www.trustedhousesitters. com/
The pet food space has been taking a central stage in the past months, following the publication of two studies: one highlighting the environmental
sustainability of vegan diets for pets, and the other evidencing the viability of cats having healthy lives on vegan diets.
ProVeg
N
ovember’s EU approval for the sale of Prague-based Bene Meat’s cultivated meat for pet food represents a major milestone in the development of the cultivated meat market, food awareness organisation, ProVeg International, said. “We are delighted to see the EU take a pioneering role in the field of cultivated meat and issue the very first approval for the production and sale of cultivated meat for pets,” Jasmijn de Boo, ProVeg CEO, said. “As the plant-based pet food space grows, this regulatory approval of cultivated pet food will be complementary in phasing out conventional meat for feeding our cats and dogs. This will help to greatly relieve the huge burden that the conventional animal agriculture industry places on the environment in terms of carbon emissions, as well as pollution and biodiversity loss,” de Boo added.

The Power of Pawer Water
S
etting new standards in the pet care market, Pawer Water unveils a ground-breaking canine wellness hydrating supplement! Ideal for groomers to use, promote and stock for clients, Pawer Water aims to optimise overall wellbeing for dogs by transforming the way they hydrate, ensuring that they receive a boost of goodness in the vital hydration necessary for a healthy and active lifestyle. One of the main functions of this revolutionary new product is to focus on the overall appearance of the dog particularly in relation to its coat, skin, and overall physique. True beauty and health however start from within, and that’s precisely where Pawer Water comes into play. This unique hydrating supplement is designed not only to quench thirst but also nourish from the inside-out! Simply put, it’s a smart supplement filled with vitamins, antioxidants, functional ingredients, and electrolytes - all in one – beautifully and elegantly designed that is easy-to-store, use and carry as it is light and pocketsized. You simply open the sachet and pour the powder into a bowl of water and serve to the dog.
The science behind this hydrating supplement
Pawer Water’s formulation is a testament to the symbiosis of humangrade wellness innovation and canine nutritional needs. It’s a leap forward from traditional supplements that often contain fillers and artificial additives. “We’ve taken the best practices and ingredients from the human cosmetic and supplement industry and tailored them to meet the unique needs of our dogs,” said Nathalie Ohana, founder of Pawer Water. “Our mission is to offer a product that not only hydrates well but also enhances the overall wellbeing and vitality of our canine companions.” Formulated by a best-in-class

nutritionist, Pawer Water is made from top-tier ingredients, emphasizing purity and efficacy. It’s free from artificial colours and artificial preservatives, aligning with the growing demand for natural pet care products. The product is also formulated, produced, and packaged locally in the United Kingdom. “Working ‘paw in paw’ with the team, we’ve harnessed the power of natural ingredients, combined with our knowledge from the human supplement field, to create something truly unique for dogs,” says Tanya Cohen, the brand’s lead nutritionist
The benefits of Pawer Water
We all know that a healthy, shiny coat is a sign of good health and is vital for a successful grooming session which is why Pawer Water’s functional ingredients such collagen, hyaluronic acid, or biotin proactively support the wellbeing and shine of the coat. A shinny coat is indicative of a well-hydrated dog, as well as the skin’s wellness and elasticity, reducing the likelihood of dryness and @totalgroomingmagazineuk
irritation - common issues one can encounter in salons. Furthermore, Pawer Water contributes to stronger bones and joints. This is particularly beneficial for active dogs, senior dogs and larger breeds that are prone to joint issues. A dog with healthy bones is easier to handle and groom, making a groomer’s job more manageable and enjoyable. Nathalie Ohana concludes, “By embracing innovative products such as Pawer Water, groomers are not only improving the quality of their services but also playing a crucial role in the wellbeing and happiness of the dogs they care for. Groomers today are often seen as sound advisors to pet parents on various aspects of canine care. Products such as Pawer Water are setting new standards in this area, empowering groomers with a holistic approach to their pet clients’ health!” For further information visit: www.pawerwater.com For more information on trade prices please contact: Nathalie Ohana, Founder & CEO, hello@pawerwater.com

Social star
A Brighton dog grooming instructor is putting her skills to good use, by making her adorable dog a social media star.
H
elen Kirby is a nationally recognised dog grooming expert, and has taken part in competitions, including appearing on the BBC TV show Pooch Perfect. And when Helen got her first dog Sebastian, she knew that the partipoodle would be a great personal inspiration, and hoped to create some fantastic styles. Two year-old Sebastian is no stranger to Helen’s place of work, the Bone Idol Academy in Blatchington Road, where learners can study for qualifications in the subject, or take part in Groom Your Own Dog Day sessions for pet parents. And online too the pooch is a real star, posing with amazing and skillful grooms and props catching the eye of Instagram users on his @sebastianthepartipoodle feed. Helen said: “Sebastian is my first dog, and he’s such a character, his look definitely reflects that and he’s doing really well on social media. As his mum it’s really nice to be able to use my skills to create a modified continental cut, and people who come to the academy often ask to learn how to groom like a style they have seen on Sebastian.” To hone her skills Helen travelled to Malaysia where she learned the tricky Asian Fusion grooming style from experts, and now teaches the style, which includes round teddy bear cuts and spiral body grooms to students on her courses. But for Helen animal welfare always comes first, and that is at the heart of all that she teaches her students. She added: “The dogs that come to us all need to be groomed because of their coat type, first and foremost it is their welfare we are taking care of. At Bone Idol our mantra is Happy Healthy Fabulous, and that is at the heart of all that we do. That of course does not stop the animals we care for looking like a million dollars.” Dog grooming is a booming industry, with many salons being forced to close
their books due to high demand after the pandemic puppy boom. The Bone Idol Academy has been inundated with sign ups for their courses, from people keen to change their career paths and work with dogs. Helen said: “Dog grooming really is a growth industry as there are more dogs than ever in the UK. Many popular dog breeds such as Labradoodles and Cockapoos need regular grooming, and even short furred dogs benefit from

Nutritional tips A nutritionist has revealed a simple recipe which when added to your dog’s food can help them live longer and slow down the aging process.
C
anine nutritionist Francesca Ford, who teaches at the Bone Idol Academy, says that if you feed your dog a simple paste created using turmeric and black pepper your dog may be able to enjoy a healthy life for longer. Turmeric is an accent spice that comes from the root of curcuma longa. Unlike a lot of herbal remedies turmeric comes with scientific backing and has been used in clinical studies. There are a large number of studies outlining the benefits of turmeric for arthritis because of this it’s believed that turmeric can also help dogs with arthritis. When prepared correctly, turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory due to the chemical it contains, curcumin. Due to being totally natural turmeric is also a lot kinder than many common medicines prescribed. Turmeric is also a powerful antioxidant that can increase longevity and help slowdown the aging process. Francesca said: “You may have seen in
12

your local trendy coffee shop that they sell turmeric lattes. Along with looking fancy with their bright orange colour they also come along with a list of health benefits. So, do these benefits transfer over to our dogs? “Raw turmeric is not bioavailable for dogs to absorb into their body. Cooking in an oil and adding black pepper is the best way for the dog to be able to gain all the nutritional benefits from it. “There are lots of great turmeric treats and supplements on the market for dogs. Alternatively, you can create your own ‘Golden Paste’. This is easy to make and can be stored in your fridge for two to three weeks.”
Golden paste recipe:
• 60g turmeric powder • 250ml of water • 70ml of coconut oil (raw, unrefined) or linseed oil or extra virgin olive oil • 2-3 teaspoons of freshly cracked black pepper 1. In a saucepan add the water along @totalgroomingmagazineuk
with the turmeric powder 2. Mix together and bring to a boil 3. Lower the heat and keep mixing until you have a thick paste 4. Leave to cool for 10 mins before adding the final ingredients 5. Add in the cracked black pepper along with the oil and mix thoroughly 6. Store in a jar with a lid for up to 3 weeks in the fridge Francesca added: “As with any supplements turmeric should be added to the diet in small doses with the amount being increased slowly. “As a guide, start with a quarter of a teaspoon per 5kg of body weight. One last thing to note is that turmeric is a warming spice. Due to this it may not be suitable for dogs who always seem hot and seek out cold places to lay.” To find out more about the Bone Idol Academy’s canine nutrition courses go to https://boneidolacademy.com/caninenutrition/

The Art of the Festive Season
As the holiday season approaches, dog and cat grooming businesses have a unique opportunity to capitalise on the festive spirit by incorporating festive gifts, retail opportunities, and promotions into their operations.

C
hristmas in 2023 presents a golden opportunity for grooming businesses to not only boost their revenues but also foster stronger relationships with pet owners. This issue, we will explore the importance of utilising festive gifts, retail opportunities, and festive promotions within a dog or cat grooming business and offer valuable insights to help prepare for Christmas in 2023.
Enhancing Customer Loyalty
These packages can include special holiday-themed grooming services that make pets look and feel their best, along with seasonal accessories like bows, bandanas, or temporary colour sprays. By offering these packages, you can enhance customer loyalty and establish your grooming business as a place that goes the extra mile to make the holiday season special for pets and their owners.
Creating Memorable Moments
The holiday season is a time of giving, and your grooming business can play a pivotal role in spreading joy to pet owners. Offering festive grooming packages can be a win-win situation.
Christmas is a time for creating cherished memories. By incorporating festive elements into your grooming services, you can make each pet’s visit to your salon memorable. Consider offering themed photo

sessions where pets can pose with Santa hats or in front of a beautifully decorated holiday backdrop. These photos make for heartwarming keepsakes and can be a fantastic way to promote your services on social media, enticing more pet owners to visit your business.
Unique and Personalised Gift Ideas
Festive gifts have become an integral part of the holiday season. As a grooming business owner, you can provide a unique and personalised giftgiving experience for your clients. Consider offering customised pet grooming gift certificates or gift baskets filled with pet grooming products and accessories. This not only helps your

customers in finding the perfect gift for their beloved pets but also encourages them to spread the word about your business to friends and family.
Expanding Your Product Line
The holiday season offers the perfect occasion to expand your product offerings. Stock up on festive pet accessories, such as holiday-themed collars, sweaters, and toys, to add to your retail inventory. By doing so, you can attract more foot traffic and generate additional revenue. Additionally, consider partnering with local artisans to sell handmade, petrelated holiday items, creating a unique shopping experience for your clients. Specialised Seasonal Merchandising Effective merchandising can help your retail products stand out during the holiday rush. Create eye-catching displays in your grooming salon, featuring holiday-themed pet products. Implementing unique retail displays with festive colours and decorations can entice pet owners to make impulse purchases for their furry friends. Ensure that your products are well-organised and clearly labelled, making it easy for customers to find the perfect holiday gifts for their pets.

Online Sales and E-commerce
Don’t forget the importance of online sales and e-commerce in today’s digital age. Invest in a user-friendly website where customers can browse and purchase holiday pet products. Offer online exclusive promotions and free shipping to attract online shoppers. Utilise social media platforms to promote your online store and engage with your audience. Consider running targeted @totalgroomingmagazineuk
Facebook and Instagram ads to reach a broader customer base during the holiday season.
Discounts and Bundle Offers
Offering special discounts and bundle deals during the holiday season can significantly boost sales. Create limitedtime promotions that encourage pet owners to take advantage of your grooming services or retail products.
FESTIVE GIFTS & RETAIL OPPORTUNITIES For example, you could offer a “Holiday Pampering Package” that includes grooming services, a festive accessory, and a discount for a future visit. Discounts and bundle offers not only increase sales but also create a sense of urgency that motivates customers to make a purchase.
Loyalty Programs
Implementing a loyalty program is a fantastic way to reward your most loyal customers during the holiday season. Offer discounts, free grooming sessions, or exclusive access to special events to clients who have visited your salon multiple times throughout the year. Loyalty programs encourage repeat business, build customer relationships, and foster a sense of community around your grooming business.
Charity and Giving Back
Christmas is a season of giving, and your grooming business can make a positive impact on the community by giving back. Consider running promotions that involve charitable contributions. For instance, you could donate a portion of your December proceeds to a local animal shelter or rescue organisation. Not only will this initiative create goodwill among your customers, but it will also demonstrate your business’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of pets in need.

offerings and sales strategies.
Christmas 2023, Plan Ahead
Marketing and Promotion
The key to a successful holiday season is preparation. Start planning your festive offerings, retail inventory, and promotions well in advance to ensure a smooth execution. Consider brainstorming and scheduling holiday marketing campaigns, and order your holiday-themed products early to avoid any supply chain delays.
Effective marketing is crucial to attracting customers during the holiday season. Utilise social media, email marketing, and your business website to promote your festive grooming packages, retail products, and promotions. Consider creating a content calendar to ensure that your marketing efforts are consistent and reach your target audience.
Staffing and Training
Customer Experience
If your grooming business experiences a surge in customers during the holiday season, it’s essential to have a welltrained and sufficient staff on hand. Ensure your employees are prepared to offer the specialised holiday services and retail assistance that your customers will expect. Conduct training sessions to familiarise your team with your festive

GROOMERS OF THE MONTH
Salina Prescott
Salina Prescott is a pet groomer, co-owner of Doggy Furdoos, Fleetwood and founder of the Dynamic Dog Groomer, a business centred on education and training for dog groomers.
Hi Salina, please introduce yourself!
I have been grooming for 12 years, and we opened our salon straight after training which was a baptism by fire. Now alongside dog grooming, I run 1-2-1 training days for new groomers, and workshops and webinars for groomers of all levels of experience. I also have a Facebook group called ‘Education for the Dynamic Dog Groomer’, where I promote learning, mindset and selfdevelopment for dog groomers, and hopefully in the future podcasts about such topics!
What can you tell me about your dog grooming business? The salon has been open for eleven years and is a partnership between my mum and I. As you can imagine, that has been quite an interesting experience! But we do have a pretty
22
totalgroomingmagazine.co.uk
@totalgroomingmagazineuk
GROOMERS OF THE MONTH good relationship. We provide several dog grooming services, from traditional to innovative Asian Fusion-inspired pet grooming, luxury spa packages and professional ultrasonic teeth cleaning. We are continuously upgrading our skills and knowledge to provide the absolute best in what we do. Our salon is intimate and relaxed with the pets’ health and welfare at the forefront of how we operate. In 2023, we introduced cat and small animal grooming. I resisted it for a while, but it’s actually a wonderful experience being in the salon with the cats, it’s just a completely different vibe to dog grooming and really enjoyable.
What would you say is your unique selling point? The salon’s USP is us! We’ve worked hard to make great relationships with our clients, and their pets. They know that the grooms will always be consistent and that we will always put their pets first. We think that it’s really important to nurture our relationships with our clients and to build genuine bonds with the animals.
What can you tell me about how you trained to be a dog groomer? I was completely burnt out in my previous career in retail management/ training and the money was BAD! We were still recovering from the recession and I was working myself to death for no thanks. I had a good long think about what I was really passionate about and then took the biggest risk of my life! I found and paid for a grooming course and handed my notice in immediately. I left myself no room for failure and I went all in on a salon-based course. I then did my qualification about 18 months later and never looked back! Since then I’ve looked for different workshops, online courses and sought out 1-2-1s with other high-quality groomers. I see this career as one where you never stop training and never stop learning, and I am always looking to upgrade my skills. You can probably tell that I’m very passionate about this topic!
Do you have any “hidden gems” you’d like to share with our readers? Always have an open mind to new opportunities. When I first started, for a long time we said things like ‘that
won’t work at this salon’ or ‘we can’t do that’ and how wrong we were! You can have your salon however you want, and you can follow your passions and your dreams and you can make things work with the right knowledge and attitude. The more your salon reflects you, the more your clients will resonate with you, and the better the service you will be able to give.
What advice would you give to other dog groomers who are just starting out in the industry?
Number one would be to invest in yourself, your equipment and your business, so bin anything that’s broken, keep your equipment well maintained and take as many learning opportunities as you can. Number two would be to look after your body, it’s got to last you a long time! Get a massage every now and then, and don’t overstretch yourself at work. Number three would be to look after your money. Don’t let people haggle, price for what you need and make sure you’ve got money put away for the future in your savings/pensions etc. This is a
lesson that I wish I’d learnt a lot sooner than I did!
Are there any general thoughts you’d like to share?
Collaboration is always better than competition, so if anything I’ve said here resonates with you feel free to get in touch! If you’d like to get in touch with me, you’ll find me in the salon (Doggy Furdoos, Fleetwood) or in my Facebook group ‘Education for the Dynamic Dog Groomer’.

The Canine Queen
I am the only Emmi-pet trainer and distributor in the UK, who is focused on providing a one-to-one training service, either in person at my salon in Derby, locally or via WhatsApp. Unlike a lot of training out there (yes, Ive been on a lot of sessions), my five star training is personal, knowledgble, fun and practical where you can bring your own pooch or a stooge dog, plus Im on hand personally afterwards to support you as it does require a little on the job training. You can find me regularly at a lot of the major shows and some of the smaller ones. Emmipet is a fantastic additional service for several reasons. Here are a few: 1. Happy customers – maintaing dogs teeth to help prevent the need for dentals or after they have had any dentals, and if trained correctly, referrals from vets as they see the benefit of the product also. 2. Much lower labour insensitivity – less back breaking work and less time required....which in turn leads to ... 3. Higher profits – very easy to make back the initial costs of purchasing the equipment within a couple of months and going forward as the only costs then are the toothbrush heads and smaller cheaper equipment parts. Customers are easy to recruit and earning more in 2 hours than you would for most grooms and upwards of 19k a year extra. 4. Happier and healthier dogs- the build up of periodontal disease can at the later stages, cause major health issues, which In term can cause death. We maintain our teeth every day, so why would you not maintain your dogs? Starter kits start from £180. RACHEL BEAN MONTHLY
Pawsitive This month, despite the horrible weather, it’s been a bit of an exciting time for Team Bean! By Rachel Bean.
I
recently found out that I have reached the finals of the Dog Friendly Awards 2023, for my work in promoting and driving canine first aid as a qualification. On December 29, I get to attend the awards bash at The Kennel Club in London. It will be an exciting addition to our Christmas plans and I am absolutely thrilled to be recognised in this way. Life isn’t all about awards and accolades, but things like this show that people are seeing the benefits of canine first aid, and that attitudes are heading in the right direction. I’m also an ambassador for the national Safe Pets and People campaign, which is calling for all pet professionals to have first aid training. Having first aid training enables you to think clearly and calmly in a crisis, I regularly get feedback from people who have been on my courses that have said they saved their dog’s life. This includes Daily Star pet columnist Catherine Lamb, who undertook the Ofqual-regulated iPET Network Canine First Aid qualification for a newspaper feature. Catherine said: “My dog Paisley was

choking on a piece of cupcake, thanks to the course I knew exactly what to do and managed to get it out. “The course may very well have saved her life, so it makes us even prouder to support Safe Pets and People.” And now for this month’s tip, which is definitely in response to the inclement

with foot injuries caused by a range of hazards. There are plenty of simple things that pet parents can do to take care of their dog’s feet in the cold. Many of us wonder why dogs don’t need to wear shoes particularly when there is ice on the ground and it’s very cold, but the skin and fur on a dog’s foot is very robust, and unless they have an injury footwear is rarely necessary. However, it is important to make sure that after a walk your dog’s paws are cleaned and dried properly, as this can help to prevent sores and infections caused by dirty and damp conditions. It is always important to keep the fur on your dogs’ feet trimmed and their nails clipped for healthy feet, and to avoid any tearing or injuries. A good paw balm is also a nice addition to your dog’s after-walk regime, as it helps their paws feel more comfortable and prevents sores from developing.” There are plenty of seasonal hazards when out on a walk, which can affect your pets’ feet. In the winter there is grit on the roads, which can cause irritation to
the paws, and poisoning if ingested by the dog cleaning with their tongue. To avoid these complications, always clean your dog’s tummy and feet after a walk where salt has been spread. In this

Cat Grooming in Colder Months
It’s definitely feeling chilly these days and Autumn is very much here. This made me stop to think about how my approach to cat grooming changes slightly in the colder months versus the warmer ones. Here are five things I know I consider differently in the darker half of the year. By Katie Gwilt, iPET Network tutor and owner of The Kat Lady grooming business.
The Age of the Cat
Think about older humans and how they feel the cold more than younger ones. It is the same with cats too. Older cats move less and sleep more needing to conserve their energy to heat their body in the colder months. When looking at what is best for the cats in your care this needs to be considered when putting together a grooming plan. You may want to consider whether things like lion cuts and shaving large areas of their fur are the best for the cats’ welfare at this time. A lot of cats when they reach their senior (10+) and especially super senior years (15+) are going to need help with grooming so you are likely to have quite a few on your client list.
The Health of the Cat
It is important to always check if the cat you are grooming has any health conditions before starting their groom.
Beautiful Buster is an outdoor cat in all weather looked after by kindly neighbours. I spot-shaved some matting but left as much of his coat as possible to help protect him during the colder months
Miguel the Sphynx showing how to get cozy in the colder months in a pile of cat beds and blankets
36
totalgroomingmagazine.co.uk
Poor health can be a factor in deciding the best grooming plan for each individual cat. Low body temperature can be a side effect and aftereffect of some health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, post-surgery, drug-related side effects etc. @totalgroomingmagazineuk
Make sure that cats with any health conditions are kept warm and comfortable as much as possible. Cats exposed to the cold elements are more susceptible to hyperthermia as well so do consider if shaving a cat is the best plan before making a commitment to your client.

FELINE FOCUS Where the Cat spends its time
Cats can be indoor only, outdoor only or a mixture of the two. While it is colder you will need to consider how much time each cat spends outside and at the risk of the elements. Not only does fur protect the cats skin from sharp objects like barbed wire, thorns and brambles, it also keeps them warm from autumn to spring. Cats use their fur for thermoregulation as it has insulating properties that help them to regulate their body temperature. In the summer cooler air is trapped against the skin and stops them from overheating (why shaving cats in the summer to help them cool down is actually counterproductive). Likewise in the winter, the thicker fur traps warm air against the skin to help them stay warm. It won’t take care of extreme temperatures, so please do take that into consideration at the height of summer and winter.
Bathing Cats with Thicker Winter Coats
In the autumn cats shed their summer coats to grow a thicker winter one to help keep them warm when it’s colder. This means that drying them after a bath is going to take more time than during the summer. The weather will also help the cat dry quicker between spring and autumn. It isn’t ideal to have a cat under a blaster drier for more than 30-40 minutes for their health, their hearing is much more sensitive than us humans. Blasters have a disclaimer for prolonger use for us let alone cats (and dogs whose hearing is also much greater than that of humans). It also can be difficult for cats with brachycephalic (flat) faces. Spend more time towel-drying cats with thick fur as well as combing them during drying so they don’t have to spend as long under a blaster. You will want to make sure they are totally dry though as a soggy cat is a chilly cat.

Make sure when you talk to the human clients that before they take their cat home from your salon or you leave their home after their groom about how to care for their cat afterwards.
If they have had to be shaved when it’s cold outside let them know to have some cozy warm spaces for them to snuggle up in afterwards. Older cats and those with health issues also benefit from an electric heat pad on a low setting under their favourite sleeping spot. There are

jumpers available for cats too, but they can’t be left on 24/7 to allow the skin to breathe. Make sure the cat has access to rooms that are warm and ideally not just with hard cold floors. If that is all that is available then some cardboard boxes and blankets can be used to make cheap and secure cat beds.

SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media success
One industry that can significantly benefit from harnessing the potential of social media is the pet grooming business, specifically dog and cat grooming. In this article, we’ll explore the importance of utilising social media within a dog or cat grooming business and how it can lead to increased visibility, customer engagement, and ultimately, business success.
A
strong online presence is essential for any business in the 21st century, and social media is a vital component of that presence. For a dog or cat grooming business, social media provides a platform to showcase your work, display before-and-after photos of groomed pets, and share informative content about pet care and grooming. These visuals and informative posts help potential customers get a sense of your expertise and the quality of your services. When people see beautiful, well-groomed pets on your social media pages, they are more likely to trust your business with their furry companions. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X allow you to connect with pet owners and pet lovers directly. You can engage with your audience by responding to comments, messages, and posts about their pets. Building a community of pet enthusiasts on your social media accounts helps create a loyal customer base and fosters a sense of trust and credibility. Responding to inquiries, sharing tips on pet care, and participating in conversations about pets can establish you as a knowledgeable and compassionate pet groomer. Social media provides an excellent platform for showcasing your grooming skills and expertise. You can share videos or photo slideshows of the grooming process, explain different grooming techniques, and offer insights into the specific needs of various breeds. This not only educates your audience but also positions you as an authority in the field. When pet owners see your commitment to their pets’ well-being, they are more likely to choose your
services over your competitors. Social media is a cost-effective way to market your dog or cat grooming business. You can run targeted ads and promotions to reach potential customers in your local area. This is especially valuable for attracting new clients or promoting seasonal specials, such as holiday grooming packages. Social media provides a platform

for customers to leave reviews and recommendations for your business. Positive reviews and satisfied customer testimonials can greatly influence potential clients. Encourage your happy customers to share their experiences on your social media pages, and be sure to respond to any negative feedback professionally and constructively. These interactions
SOCIAL MEDIA can enhance your reputation and help you improve your services based on customer feedback. Many pet owners are concerned about their pets’ well-being while at the groomer’s, making transparency and trust-building crucial. You can use social media to provide virtual tours of your grooming facility, highlighting its cleanliness, safety measures, and the comfortable environment you provide for pets. This helps potential customers feel more at ease with the idea of leaving their furry companions in your care. Social media is an excellent way to keep your clients informed about your business, such as changes in operating hours, upcoming events, and special promotions. Regularly posting updates ensures that your clients are well-informed and engaged with your services. Additionally, you can use these platforms to share educational content about pet health, grooming, and petrelated events in your community. Encourage your customers to post photos of their freshly groomed pets on your social media pages and use a branded hashtag. User-generated content is an authentic way to showcase your work while also creating a sense of community around your business. You can even organize contests or giveaways for the best user-generated content, creating a buzz around your services and increasing engagement. In today’s competitive market, staying relevant and top-of-mind for your customers is essential. By actively using social media, you ensure that your dog or cat grooming business remains competitive. It allows you to keep up with industry trends and adjust your services as needed, ensuring that your customers receive the best possible care for their pets. One of the advantages of using social media for your business is the ability to track your efforts and measure their success. Most social media platforms offer analytics tools that provide insights into your posts’ performance, audience engagement, and conversion rates. This data helps you make informed decisions, refine your social media strategy, and achieve better results over time. In conclusion, the importance of utilising social media within a dog
or cat grooming business cannot be overstated. Social media is a powerful tool for building an online presence, connecting with pet owners, showcasing your expertise, marketing your services, and much more. It allows you to create a sense of trust, transparency, and community

around your business, ultimately leading to increased visibility, customer engagement, and business success. By harnessing the potential of social media, you can ensure that your dog or cat grooming business thrives in the digital age.

GROOMERS AROUND THE WORLD
Learning from Italian mastery Today, we’re exploring the importance of UK dog groomers expanding their horizons by delving into the distinct world of Italian dog grooming.
D
og grooming is not merely a routine task but an art form that reflects the bond between a pet and its owner. In the world of dog grooming, different countries bring unique styles and techniques to the table. For UK-based dog groomers, embracing the opportunity to learn from their counterparts in Italy can be a transformative experience. Before we explore the benefits of cross-cultural learning, let’s set the stage by acknowledging the significance of dog grooming in the UK. According to a recent survey conducted by the British Dog Groomers’ Association, the UK’s pet grooming industry has experienced a steady annual growth over the past five years. This thriving industry not only underscores the increasing demand for professional grooming services but also highlights the need for continual improvement within the field. So, let’s dive into some information on

Italian dog grooming. Italy, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and artistic flair, brings a distinctive touch to the art of dog grooming. Understanding the differences between UK and Italian grooming styles is crucial for UK-based groomers seeking to elevate their craft. Italian dog grooming places a strong @totalgroomingmagazineuk
emphasis on aesthetic appeal and elegance. The grooming styles often reflect the country’s passion for design and aesthetics, resulting in groomed dogs that exude a refined and polished appearance. This stands in contrast to the UK, where grooming styles may prioritize practicality and functionality. Italian groomers are known for their
GROOMERS AROUND THE WORLD creative techniques that go beyond mere maintenance. Intricate patterns, artistic trims, and unique styles are commonplace in Italian grooming salons. UK-based groomers can benefit from incorporating more creativity into their work, transforming routine grooming sessions into opportunities for artistic expression. But, consider what UK-based dog groomers can learn from our Italian industry role models.
Attention to detail:
Italian groomers are renowned for their meticulous attention to detail. Every aspect of the grooming process, from selecting the right tools to precision in cutting and styling, is approached with care. UK groomers can elevate their skills by adopting this meticulous mindset, ensuring that no detail is overlooked in the pursuit of perfection.

Client interaction and education
Italian groomers often engage in meaningful interactions with pet owners, educating them about proper grooming techniques and maintenance. This not only enhances the client’s understanding but also fosters a stronger connection between the groomer and the pet owner. When put into practice, you can benefit from adopting a more educational approach, empowering pet owners to contribute to their pets’ well-being between grooming sessions.
Incorporating natural elements
Italian dog groomers often incorporate natural elements into their grooming styles, such as using organic products and highlighting the natural beauty of a dog’s coat. This emphasis on a more holistic and natural approach aligns with the growing trend towards eco-friendly and sustainable practices. UK groomers can learn to integrate such practices, not only meeting the demands of environmentally conscious clients but also contributing to the overall wellbeing of the animals in their care. In the dynamic world of dog grooming, the exchange of ideas and techniques across borders enriches the industry as a whole.
