As the old, familiar saying goes, “The only constant in life is change.” There is no question that the past year has created long-lasting changes for all of us. As we continue our march back to normal, I’m intrigued to see which changes will become new habits and which traditional customs become even more special and treasured after a year or more hiatus.

One thing that hasn’t changed is Madeira’s reputation as one of the best communities to live, work, and play in. Our schools remain a driving factor behind the continued growth of new families moving to the area. Our City leaders are committed to fostering a long-term plan and vision. And our business community is eager to see its customers’ faces again!

There are some exciting changes going on in Madeira!

New Faces in Familiar Places During the summer of 2020 we had several businesses relocate within Madeira including the renaming of Designs By Dawson as The Cottage Paperie. Despite its new name, The Cottage continues to be a destination for personalized stationery and announcements, and now includes an expanded selection of gifts. Musique Madeira and Cultural Arts Centre joined the downtown area at the corner of Miami and Camargo, providing a beautiful place for music lessons and highlighting the talented musicians in our area. Honey on Miami joined the boutique clothing scene in the heart of downtown with its wonderful selection of women’s clothing, accessories, and more!

New Places With New Faces We are especially excited about all of the new businesses that have joined our great community. Purpose Pilates is quickly approaching the one year anniversary of opening their beautiful studio on Miami and is a great place to train your mind, body, and spirit. Meanwhile, Madeira’s food scene continues to improve with the most anticipated restaurant opening in history—Swing Line on Railroad Avenue—set to open in the fall and the return of fresh meat and seafood made available at Redden’s on the corner of Miami and Railroad. Both establishments provide a welcome addition to the downtown area! Our service sector continues to grow as well, with the law firm of Keller, Barret & Higgins recently locating to the iconic traction car building on Miami. Later this year, we’ll also welcome Clinique en Beaute to the Madeira community, transforming the former PNC building into a medical spa with a full suite of aesthetics, beauty, and wellness services.

These new places and new faces are welcome additions to our wonderful and eclectic mix, which includes established businesses such as Hoppin’ Vines, now entering their third year in business, Ferrari’s Little Italy, celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, and one of Madeira’s oldest businesses, Madeira Optical, closing in on 70 years of service to our community. Combined with the decades of experience you’ll find at places such as Litwin’s Jewelers, Gilson’s Engraving, Bookshelf, The Music Salon, Spine & Wellness, Stanley Realty, and more, the breadth of knowledge, talent, and expertise we have in Madeira is truly one of a kind!
