3 Letter from LTG

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my fourth publication of NJDB gLAM of the 2018-2019 service year. I hope you are enjoying your summertime so far! Please try to stay active over the summer. I understand being outside, summer work, and vacation takes up most of our time, but spending a few minutes to prepare for this service year can save much time in the future! Please take your time to read this issue to see what happened in the month of July. I hope you all enjoy! Thank you :) Likes: Volunteering, Smiling, circle glasses, oversized clothing Dislikes: BTS fans, crowds, plane delays Fun Fact: A monkey crawled up my shoulder in Vietnam and I was scared for my life :D

Key Club in the Summer Just because Summer is here, doesn't mean Key Club has to stop! Below you will find all of the things you can do over the summer with Key Club that will prepare you for the new school year!

VOLUNTEER Community service never takes a break during the summertime. Start off looking for opportunities near you, like at your local library, hospitals, soup kitchens, shelters, and more. Gather around your friends, ask if they have any service plans, and volunteer together. You could even search for service to do during the upcoming school year.

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX Don’t be afraid the share new volunteer activities! You can always contact the executive board and administrators/advisors for approval. Step out of your comfort zone to explore and expand upon your service interests. It’s never too late to keep Key Club fresh with new ideas!

SPREAD THE WORD Members are what always keeps Key Club active. Notify your peers who are missing out on the beneficial opportunities that this club has to offer. Encourage the incoming freshmen to join this new high school service experience. Let’s keep Key Club productive for our future generations!

PREPARE Stay ahead of the game by plotting your Key Club plans for the new school term. What’s your service hour goal? Will you attend Fall Rally, DCON, Key Leader, and ICON? Do you want to run for the executive board or even LTG? Be proactive and prepare for your next Key Club year to be ready when the time comes!

K-Family Picnic RECAP

As an annual event, each summer the NJ District of Circle K holds an event for all branches of the K-Family called the K-Family Picnic. At this event, you spend the day with fellow Key Clubbers as well as the K-Kids, Builders Clubs, Circle K, and Kiwanis. We engaged in community service by making PB&J sandwiches, competed in a sand castle competition, and played with water balloons right on the beach! This event serves as a great way to mingle and get to know your fellow K-Family members. This event took place on July 22nd from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm rain or shine at 100 Green Island Road Toms River, NJ 08573.Â

There will be informative workshops on various topics that will help you and the other members of your club, as well as, icebreakers that will help you get to know members of other Key Clubs. You will leave the conferences knowing so much more about Key Club and how to be a more effective officer, leader, and member.

DATES -September 22nd at Millburn - September 23rd at Hackettstown - September 30th at Central Regional

District Programs Updates Advocacy Focus: Our goal is to raise awareness against Sexual Harassment. By doing so, we want to educate students, parents, and teachers about the effects, the signs, what to do, and when it crosses the line to sexual assault. We want to encourage students to speak up for themselves and eliminate myths (for example, sexual harassment only happens to girls). At club meetings and DCMs, you can create cards to sexual harassment victims and/or distribute teal ribbons to show that you are a supporter of ending sexual harassment.

Key Leader: You can register and pay online at www.key-leader.org. Registration ends on November 19th, 2018, and any registrations afterward will be charged an extra $25. It lasts for three days and two nights from November 30th-December 2nd at the Baptist Camp and Conference Center.

DCON Promotion/Planning: The 73rd annual District Convention of the NJ District Key Club will be on March 29th-31st at Ocean Place Resort. Please keep promoting the event and make sure every Key Club in NJ knows of it! If cost is the problem, fundraise early!
