3 Letter from LTG Hello Everyone! Welcome to my third publication of NJDB gLAM of the 2018-2019 service year. Congratulations Class 2018 and congratulations to all of us for completing this school year. Please take your time to read this issue to see what happened in the month of June. I hope you all enjoy! Thank you :) Likes: Family, Friends, Rain, the word "aesthetic" Dislikes: Thunder, Heights, Coffee Fun Fact: I have double-jointed elbows, meaning they can bend further backward than normal

Kiwanis Family Overview Being part the Kiwanis Family, we are united through our passion for serving others and making a difference to better the world around us. The K-family is divided into six different branches.Â

KIWANIS: Kiwanians around the globe focus on the common goal of serving the children of the world. They advocate this vision each and every day by providing opportunities to serve for every member of a community through Service Leadership Programs. Through these opportunities, people of all ages from all around the world are able to become leaders and role models to others through their actions and words. Kiwanis inspires us to do what we do and teach us what we can really be capable of.

CIRCLE-K: For college students who find themselves in a life after Key Club and a life before Kiwanis International, they have the opportunity to get involved in Circle-K. Circle K International (CKI) is the premier university service organization in the world sponsored by Kiwanis International where programming is based upon the tenets of service, leadership, and fellowship.

AKTION CLUB: Adults living with disabilities are able to get involved in Aktion Club and develop initiative and leadership skills through hands-on service. These remarkable adults give back to their communities from the benefits, help, and caring they have received.

KEY CLUB: High school students like ourselves are blessed with the community service organization known as Key Club. Although we are completely run by high school students, we are sponsored and strongly supported by Kiwanis International.

BUILDERS CLUB: Students in middle school and junior high are able to get involved with Builders Club. They contribute service to school and community while developing leadership and people skills. Builders Club members implement practical service-learning principals as they focus on supporting organizations that focus on the needs of children.

K-KIDS: Kiwanis Kids is yet another service leadership program for primary school students. K-Kids provides students with the chance to work together on service projects, develop leadership potential and create a strong moral character.

Key Club in the Summer Just because Summer is here, doesn't mean Key Club has to stop! Below you will find all of the things you can do over the summer with Key Club that will prepare you for the new school year!

VOLUNTEER Community service never takes a break during the summertime. Start off looking for opportunities near you, like at your local library, hospitals, soup kitchens, shelters, and more. Gather around your friends, ask if they have any service plans, and volunteer together. You could even search for service to do during the upcoming school year.

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX Don’t be afraid the share new volunteer activities! You can always contact the executive board and administrators/advisors for approval. Step out of your comfort zone to explore and expand upon your service interests. It’s never too late to keep Key Club fresh with new ideas!

SPREAD THE WORD Members are what always keeps Key Club active. Notify your peers who are missing out on the beneficial opportunities that this club has to offer. Encourage the incoming freshmen to join this new high school service experience. Let’s keep Key Club productive for our future generations!

PREPARE Stay ahead of the game by plotting your Key Club plans for the new school term. What’s your service hour goal? Will you attend Fall Rally, DCON, Key Leader, and ICON? Do you want to run for the executive board or even LTG? Be proactive and prepare for your next Key Club year to be ready when the time comes!

Spring RTCs RECAP

Spring 2018 Regional Training Conferences took place at Warren Tech and Lower Cape May Regional High School on June 9th-10th. The theme was "Blooming in Service" so the schools were decorated with flowers and nature items! They were a lot of fun and we all offered valuable resources to Key Clubbers to learn more about their role. We also left a good impression on all of the clubs with the presentations. There were raffle prizes, pink district board sweatshirts/polos, the DPS Committee video making-inprogress, and the intense icebreaker competition. After the RTCs, everyone knew more about Key Club and how to be a more effective officer, leader, and member.

Touch-a-Truck RECAP

Touch-A-Truck was held on a June morning where Key Clubbers from Parsippany Hills and Parsippany High volunteered to help out in Kiwanis’ famous, fun event. Touch-A-Truck is an event in which multiple trucks, such as firetrucks, foods trucks, ambulances, various other vendors, come to support Kiwanis’ fundraiser. It’s an event for little children to come and enjoy seeing the trucks. They even have the opportunity to go inside and see what it is like. Key Clubbers gathered at the first aid tent and helped distribute goodie bags for the cars who came and stopped by. There were yummy free pancakes to bring comfort to those who attended. Nothing can stop a Key Clubber’s passion for volunteerism!

K-Family Dinner RECAP

11

Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany hosted a K-Family night on June 8th. DJ Jay Gee and Comedian KC Arora entertained the Kiwanis Family and food was provided by Pomptonian Food Services. The club was able to sponsor their first Circle K club, Seton Hall University. Thank you to Ms. Hanh and Mr. Meth, for their help in starting the Seton Hall Circle K.

Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany supports nine K-Kid clubs: Lake Parsippany Elementary School, Eastlake Elementary School, Mt. Tabor Elementary School, Littleton Elementary School, Lake Hiawatha Elementary School, Troy Hills Elementary School, Northvail Elementary School, Knollwood School and Rockaway Meadow Elementary School, two builder’s clubs, Central Middle School and Brooklawn Middle School; two Key Clubs, Parsippany Hills High School and Parsippany High School and one Aktion Club.

In addition to Seton Hall University, one of my goals to have the last elementary school in Parsippany, Intervale School, which does not have a K-Kids, to join and become part of our family. We are happy to say that Intervale K-Kids will be active starting in September!
