// INTRODUCTION Hello! We meet again in the 13th year of Q! Film Festival! This 13th year is a journey towards maturity, the ability to make a stand, make decisions wisely and start to wonder what the future holds. This journey has given us so many experiences and lessons, from mundane ordinary events to adventures, even reviled and judged as those who should take responsibility for this world’s moral depravity, but in the end of all those has given us more color in our journey to maturity in this life. This journey also reveals many things to Q! Film Festival, about who is our friend, who is our enemy, who opportunistic and who is sincere. Again, life really teaches a lot, about hate, loss, meetings, letting go, love and even betrayal. This is the year of 2014 and this year is our 13th year. It is an honour for us to keep existing amongst our friends. Q! Film Festival has decided to forget the past, not wanting to discuss further the issues of attacks, demonstrations and the likes. Unlike TV series such as Revenge or How I Met Your Mother which has aired for many seasons but has not reached its finale, this year we want to come back with joy and happiness, of course, through the screening of our films. There are many exciting segments this year, such as successful films in several international film festivals, Q-gossip that explores the views of heterosexual friends about LGBTIQ, book launchings from young but productive writers, free HIV/ AIDS test, and exhibition of heterosexual artists about LGBTIQ from their respective views. One new thing in this year’s festival is Q! on Stage which will be our closing. The performances of singers and musical actors will make this year’s closing different from previous years. The show will talk about “Love etc”. We talked about loss earlier, grief over the death of beloved friends which underlies this year’s Q! on Stage, to commemorate them and remind us again the sweet memories of loved ones. We would like thank colleagues who has relentlessly support us from year to year. To our lovely friends: HIVOS, Embassies and Cultural Centers, CSOs and NGOs, Komnas HAM, Komnas Perempuan, Arus Pelangi, LBH Jakarta, LBHM, and KONTRAS, and of course our new friends, Binus International and Paviliun 28. To all organizations which are members of the Indonesian LGBTIQ Forum, we welcome you to this gathering event. To our private donor friends, our never ending gratitude for your loyalty and for not just saying,”Q! Film Festival should always exist.” To all the loyal audiences and hard working volunteer,. Also to all, who due to old age, we cannot remember one by one. So, later when we recognize you and we meet by chance in the 2014 Q! Film Festival, be ready to make selfies and be mass tagged on Path. Remember, do not change your name! :p In the end, as 100% human we want to celebrate our humanity and promote life without label. Enjoy the festival!

// BRIEF HISTORY Q! Film Festival was founded in 2002 by freelance journalists and movie buffs. Taking up queer, gender, human rights and HIV/AIDS theme, it is the only film festival of its kind in the predominantly Moslem country. Adding to film screenings, the festival includes exhibitions, literature events, parties, musical performance and meet-the-filmmakers. With the support of local institutes as well as foreign cultural and embassies, Q! Film Festival showcases films from all over the world. Previously, the festival was also held in Bandung, Medan, Batam, Surabaya, Malang, Yogyakarta, Maumere, Denpasar and Makassar. This year we will screen more than 100 films. The launching of the festival in 2002 and 2003 were marked with protests from Muslim fundamentalist groups. In 2010, the attack developed into physical threats, demonstrations and lawsuits. In 2012, the police rejected our announcement letter and unofficially requested us to procure a recommendation letter from MUI on being Halal or Haram. In 2013, as citizen protector, the police did the job well for the festival. The mission is to give options of alternative films to Indonesian audiences and to educate and raise awareness on queer and human rights issues. The significant outcome is that The Human Rights Commission added the protection towards queer people for last 6 years. Furthermore, a non-profit advocacy organization for the queer community has been established to accommodate the increasing needs. Almost 1,000 films have been screened and the total of 165,000 audiences have attended the festival for the last 12 years. International guests such as filmmakers, distributors, and festival organizer has also attended the festival since 2003. The 13th year of Q! Film Festival is the biggest queer film festival in Asia, in terms of number of film screenings and number of days. It has been officially acknowledged as part of the Teddy Award Section of Berlin Film Festival called “Teddy on Tour program since 2006.

// Q-MUNITY IN REVENGE Victoria Grayson How old is Victoria? Nobody really knows for sure. Cranky when hungry, moody when amorous, Victoria’s sharp tongue camouflages her mother hen quality. Still reluctant to be called an activist, Victoria can be found out and about in many social circles, especially at night for a greater cause while maintaining her fabulous style. Just don’t to wake her up too early in the morning. Her vampire biological clock has a hard time adjusting to common human schedule. Aiden Mathis Aiden could never move on from teen magazines fashion trend, oblivious to the fact that this one is no longer a teenager. If you make an appointment with this person at 2 pm, we advise you to start waiting at 3 pm or your expensive makeup will melt and world class perfume will evaporate under the sun. Psst... do not tell Aiden about La Senza discounts or you will sit on the storefront waiting for a long shopping spree to finish. Emily Thorne Emily should be guarded like a precious antique, because our festival might not go on if this person is missing in action. 13 years is not enough to make Emily willingly open up on the matter of sexual identity, prefering to be mysterious. Age unfortunately has factored in on Emily’s fragile body causing rapid gain-weight, and the tendency to pass out easily. Sleeping in the same room with this one is obviously a huge disaster, because the sound of a freight train will haunt you all night long. Nolan Ross A newfound fact about Nolan: apparently has a pretty kinky imagination. Proof of kinky paraphernalia might be found in this person’s closet. Nolan is also quite fussy about the whereabouts of team members and their confirmation report on arriving home safely. This security coordinator is also a whiz on scouring various websites related to “you know who” fundamentalists and other confidential information. Pssstt... this person also has a handsome and smart brother. Conrad Grayson This one is secretly quite sharp on “berondong” matters, which is also his weakness. He often argues with the operational manager and head of programming but maybe because of age and maturity factors, he remains patient and sincere in assisting them. Detecting his mood is easy, if he does not return your call, Whatsapp or sms, it means he wants to be alone. Margaux LeMarcal In the case of being faithful, this one shall not be doubted. This person clearly has not been able to move on from one of Q! Film Festivals’ close friend. Always opening the Growlr app in every meeting and a typical sound for the Bears can always heard. Considers breasts as assets and proud of how they are unforgettable (or so this person says). Be ready if you are mutual friends on Path or Twitter because updates will happen in every blink of the eye. Charlotte Grayson For underwear discounts, no questions need to be asked, because all girls are the same. But if there is word about Doraemon or Hello Kitty sightings, she will chase them to the ends of the world. Never ask her any questions when she is in a bad mood, or you will be killed by her razor-sharp words. From now on, be good to her if you want to be the first to know when there will be a major discount in one of the leading malls in Jakarta.
