The Collegium is designed to utilise the unique conditions of the "Giornate del Cinema Muto - Pordenone Silent Film Festival" in Pordenone, Italy (that takes places every year at the beginning of october) - a one-week event dedicated to the early years of cinema. There, the collegian (a group of 24 selected students coming from all the world [...so, remember, when you read the papers, that English is not for all of them the native language]): - can see rare archival films; - enjoy the presence of the world's best qualified experts in film history. The collegium return to a fundamental concept of study: the impetus is the students' curiosity and inquiry rather than the imposition of a formal teaching programme. Hence, the Collegium take the form of a series of "Dialogues". The members of the Collegium write - in collaboration with one of the "mentors"/veterans of the previous year's - , retrospectively, a paper on some theme inspired by the experiences of the Giornate.
