“I deal with various forms of discrimination and violence that occur unreasonably in modern society, as well as human desires and emotions suppressed by these forces. My intention is not to promote good or punish evil, but to sublimate these experiences by capturing and expressing the emotions suppressed in interpersonal relationships. I believe that a peaceful mind can be achieved by consciously expressing the fierce feelings hidden within superficial forms and language. Thus, for me, creating art is a meditative act of emptying the mind, which in turn allows my work to capture the intricate network of karma within the complex relationships of society.”

From South Korea, Kyunghee Lee is a distinguished artist whose creative journey began at Ewha Womans University, where she honed her skills in wood engraving and contemporary painting. Influenced by post-impressionism with a cubist approach to composition, Atom Hovhanesyan’s goal here is to utilize the whole surface of the support, challenging the viewer’s perception of negative space. Essentially divisionism, the figure/composition is woven into the fabric of the plane, and space warps into the figure. In the painting process, repetitive, almost automatic application of crosshatched lines allows the subconscious the opportunity to direct the composition.
