National Junior Branch Meeting 2015 Recap Toronto, Ontario

Activity Highlights

This year at NBM, we had some amazing activities, including: NJR Candidate Workshop: Based off an activity done at Global Conference, NJR Candidate Santana led a session on improving your local chapter through best practices and discussion between participants. DCC Session: Our Development Committee Chairs for 2014-2015 Cameron and Capri created an activity around next year’s CISV theme, Sustainable Development, which Cam facilitated. We worked in groups to work on ways our chapters can become more sustainable in the future and had a g reat discussion about what sustainable development really means. Motion Discussion: Every year, motions about JB Canada are submitted and then voted on at NBM. During the meetings, we are able to discuss them and ask questions! Town Halls: Town halls are sessions that led JBers decide on topics they wish to discuss as a group. They are a fantastic way to share problems, as well as hear best practices and new ideas. This year, we talked about everything from fundraising and recruitment to how to make local elections more professional. (Take a look at our live minutes for more info!) USA Junior Branch: Our American friends, Dan and Rachel, gave us a presentation about the structure of Junior Branch U.S.A. It was a great opportunity to learn more about our neighbours down South! Bringing It Home: We also took the time to figure out how we were going to bring back all the information we learned to our own chapters. Each chapter took time to plan an activity to present the information, and we can’t wait for y’all to do them!

JB Dime Drive

Our amazing JBers raised a total of $867.70!!! Congratulations to London for donating the most money - $231.15. This is enough to cover at least THREE registration fees to international meetings this year for JBers! (Better luck next time to our runner-up, Freddy Beach!) Start saving those dimes for next year, now!

Summary of motions

This year, four motions were passed during NJBM: Motion 1: After the deadline for nominations for the EhTeam, no new nominations will be accepted. Because not everyone can attend NBM, this motion was put in place to increase transparency and give everyone in JB Canada the equal opportunity to run for a position on the Eh Team. Motion 2: That the incentive program (5/8) switch from a $50 incentive to a $50 gift card to a useful store This motion was passed to save money for JB Canada and use donations instead of money. Motion 3: The position of ECC and ICC become one position of JB Communications Since both roles are so similar, a motion was passed to combine them in the next Eh Team election to create the role of Communications. Motion 4: That a proper procedure for by-elections be created. JB Canada’s by-laws have been in need of by-election procedures for a while, so one was passed at NBM! If you have any questions, feel free to contact your Local Junior Representative (LJR)!
