With songs that display heavy influence of punk rock as well as bands such as Pixies and Nirvana and other songs influenced by classic rock, funk, and blues music. With “Melophobia” earning them a Grammy Award nomination in 2015 for Best Alternative Music Album and “Tell me I’m Pretty” winning the award for Best Rock Album at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, Cage the Elephant has been able to sustain their success with more than 5 million listeners monthly. I remember vividly 2013 USA swimming nationals, it was before my 100 fly event and I was trying to get myself pumped up. My brother was next to me bobbing his head for his next race when I ask him “Can I listen?” so he gives me his Ipod and headphones and tells me to brace myself and starts playing “In one ear”. This was very different to the music I was used to, from Kesha, Britney Spears and Justin Bieber to Cage the Elephant. For the first time in my life I was introduced to a whole new world and I was loving it. From then on Cage the Elephant became my go to band, and it would Halo by Cage the later dictate the music I would listen to in the future. Elephant What is the best thing about Cage the Elephant? MN speaking The best thing about cage the elephant is how different their music is. Cage the Elephant will always have a song that speaks to my mood, and that’s the best thing about them. I don’t have to look any further than them. CG speaking Is there a song that speaks to you the most? VD speaking Yeah it’s actually my favorite song from them, it’s Cigarette Daydreams. I just love that song so much. There is this part in the song that says “You were only seventeen. So sweet with a mean streak” and honestly just that part of the song was why I was so excited to turn seventeen. MN speaking I think my favorite song is “Shake me down” because there is this part in the song that says “Taste my blood, broken dreams, lonely times in deed”
