Bridge is a card game that helps develop problem-solving, social skills, teamwork and logical thinking. Studies show that students who play bridge practice math and reasoning skills and perform better on standardized tests than those who do not. Orinda Little Theater

Co-Sponsored by Kids’N Dance

Junglebook

Children of all abilities are proud to be a part of our polished mini-productions of musicals that are fun, challenging, and engaging. Cast members learn to develop character, vocal technique, presentation, and dance skills. The Orinda Little Theater (4-8 year olds) sing, dance, and perform a short play. The Youth Theater presents plays lasting about forty minutes with about 4-6 songs and the cast for 8-14 year olds present plays lasting about 1-1/2 hours with 10-12 songs. Participants are expected to independently study their lines, songs, and blocking (as scheduled) and to attend all rehearsals. In addition, parents support the quality of our productions by committing a required six hours of time (for a $60 fee you may opt out of doing the work and Kids‘N Dance will hire someone to take your place). Most costumes are supplied, but parents are required to provide the basics. Please have child prepare a song for the first day of class (except for Orinda Little Theater). Children do not have to know how to read for the Orinda Little Theater shows. Please read refund policy carefully, but absolutely no refunds or credits are issued once this program begins. Additional charge for show tickets. Show times are subject to change.

Dogs 20 Weeks+ Prerequisite: Basic Obedience or Instructor Approval The American Kennel Club developed a test designed to encourage owners to train their dogs to be socially comfortable and well mannered. During this program your dog will practice how to meet and accept petting and grooming by a stranger, how to walk nicely by other dogs and distractions, to be confident when met by new sounds and sights, demonstrate basic sit, down and come, and how to remain calm when separated from you. During the final class dogs are tested. The first class of the session is mandatory, and you attend without your dog. Bring a copy of your dog's vaccination records for the instructor to keep. Minimum age limit for handler is 16. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Thurs.

Dogs 20 Weeks+ Prerequisite: Basic Obedience or Instructor Approval Dogs have the ability to detect a scent one hundred thousand to a million times greater than a human. The new sport of Canine Nose Work teaches your dog how to use its nose to target specific scent sources and then alert. This fun class taps into your dog’s powerful olfactory senses and drive to hunt. It builds confidence and exercises your dog mentally and physically. And, it’s all done in a positive way! Appropriate for any dog with a nose, but it is helpful if your dog is comfortable handling confinement in either a crate or a safe spot. Food or toy motivation and basic obedience skills are helpful. Limited space, so don’t wait. Register today!

Cities in Movies James Keller Since the silent film era, film has made graphic use of cities for comedy, drama, and documentary. This film series takes us from Moscow in the early Soviet rule, to pre-Nazi Berlin, and to Rio de Janeiro for a modern version of the Orpheus myth. New York sings and dances. Politics is the business of Washington D.C. Fellini is a unique tour guide to Rome. Even Tokyo has small neighborhoods. Angels go unnoticed in Berlin. A tour of unknown London is narrated by the great actor Paul Scofield, and lastly, the cemetery of Pere Lachaise shows how lively and unique Paris is. Movies: Man with the Movie Camera, People on Sunday, Black Orpheus, On the Town, Advise and Consent, Roma (Fellini), Sans Soleil, Wings of Desire, London, and Forever. Wed.

✺ History of Civilization James Hadley

These popular multi-media lecture series provide a grand tour of European civilization. The lectures put the great creative accomplishments of the period in a context such that the connections between them and the history of which they are a part of may be understood. The visual arts, music, literature, and history are all here, treated from a thoroughly interdisciplinary point of view. Extensive use is made of slides, literary excerpts, and recordings.

Spring: The Italian Renaissance— Late Middle Ages–16th Century This multi-media lecture series covers Italian Civilization from the late Middle Ages to the 16th Century. Authors from Dante to Aristo, composers from Landini to Gabrieli, artists from Giotto to Titian, and personalities as diverse as St. Francis and Lucrezia Borgia are included.

Six of One Half a Dozen of the Other Movies of John Ford and Howard Hawks John Ford and Howard Hawks are considered to be the old masters of Hollywood movie making. In long careers, they showed themselves to be masterly storytellers and quintessential Americans in their energy and themes. Ford forged his own visual country of the Western using Monument Valley. Hawks was equally at home in all genres: gangster, western, comedy, war, adventure, musical. Movies (Ford): Prisoner of Shark Island, Young Mr. Lincoln, The Grapes of Wrath, They Were Expendable, My Darling Clementine, and The Searchers. Movies (Hawks): Scarface, Only Angels Have Wings, His Girl Friday, To Have and to Have Not, Red River and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
