ESTD 2005 The Friends of the Wagner Ranch Nature Area (FWRNA/FONA) established itself as a grassroots organization under the umbrella of the East Bay Community Foundation in 2005 with Orinda Bee Man, Steve Gentry as the Founding President. In 2008, they were granted 501(C)(3) nonprofit status by the IRS and the State. The mission is to support outdoor environmental experiences in the Nature Area; promote environmental stewardship through the involvement of the greater community; and to maintain and enhance the integrity of the natural and historical state of the Wagner Ranch Nature Area. The Orinda Union School District closed the Nature Area due to damage from the 2023 winter storms. FWRNA/ FONA has been working to help the OUSD reopen the Nature Area in the fall.

THE OYS PHILOSOPHY IS S.A.F.E! – SAFE, ACTIVE, FUN, EDUCATIONAL.

Youth sports play a vital role in developing children, and OYS strives to provide an environment that fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, safety, body and motor development, and fundamental learning of each OYS sport.

OYS Code of Conduct

In 2023, OYS adopted a Player and Parent Code of Conduct to help our community embrace the positive values we wish to instill in our youth through athletics. We ask all parents and volunteer coaches to encourage our OYS players to exemplify the values that build positive character. OYS promotes character development over winning. All parents must acknowledge and agree to this policy when registering for any OYS sport. We thank every family for entrusting OYS to provide a safe, engaging environment for their children. Orinda Parks and Rec also want to acknowledge our volunteer coaches who take time out of their busy schedules to lead and teach our youth! We look forward to a fantastic OYS school year in 2024-25.

Orinda Teen Advisory Council

The Orinda Teen Advisory Council (OTAC) is returning for the 2024-25 school year after a summer hiatus. Members earn an opportunity to strengthen their resume and build networking connections with their peers while deeply connecting with the roots of their community. Members will also learn important facets of a council, such as teamwork, cooperation, coordination, logistics, and communication, which they can use as building blocks for success as they move forward in their academic careers and eventual professional endeavors.

OTAC meets monthly or bi-monthly at the Orinda Community Center during the school year. Any middle school or high school students ages 11-19 who live or attend school in the Lamorinda area are eligible for OTAC. Basic Obedience is the foundation for all training goals. We teach you how to motivate your dog to want to learn the basics of heel, sit, and down. We teach how to shape the “leave it” and “come” commands, and the command “wait” to prevent your dog from bolting through doors. This is a critical step in developing a healthy bond and puts your dog on the road to a more meaningful life. Appropriate for dogs 20 weeks and older; minimum age limit for handler is 18. Please bring a copy of your dog’s vaccination records for the instructor to keep. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The first class of the session is mandatory, and for handlers only. It will be held online, in a live virtual format. Please complete and sign the Dog Dynamics form that will be attached to your transaction after registration and submit them to info@ dogdynamics.org before the first day of class.
