Orinda Parks and Rec is proud to announce our adoption of ePACT Network, a health and safety software to better support our members and make it easier to submit critical data securely! This digital solution allows you to quickly share the health and emergency information we need, and also provides us with powerful communication tools to ensure we have a way to message you in the event of an illness, injury, or larger scale emergency
Why are we using ePACT?
1 . To save you time—With ePACT, you only need to complete your child’s information once and update it as needed
2 Check-in/out will be more efficient with an electronic, contactless process!
3 . For better security & privacy—ePACT’s high encryption levels and commitment to security means your data on ePACT is safer than on paper Additional information, and the initial invitation to complete your account will be emailed 3-6 weeks prior to your child’s first week of camp You will receive one email invite per child . To avoid duplication, one parent (one email address) should accept the invites and complete the detailed emergency record for ALL campers .
Stay tuned for more information.

CHALLENGE ISLAND
Challenge Island’s high interest curriculum uniquely intertwines STEAM, English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies concepts into one action-packed experience for students. It’s unique because the students visit islands and work together in tribes to complete challenges that demonstrate one or more STEAM concepts. The hands-on opportunities made available in Challenge Island ignite curiosity and spark learning by letting the students experiment in real-world situations. Students apply engineering principles, understand, brainstorm, build, test, improve, retest, Improve again, and share. As a result, the students learn about communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and public speaking. More information — page 20.
SCIENCE BEGINNINGS
Founded in 2006 by Vidya Pillai, Science Beginnings is a premier experiment-based science program taught across the East Bay. The classes, aimed at kindergartners through middle schoolers, bring to life the basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences, and STEM subjects such as Robotics and Engineering. Lessons are designed and taught by Vidya and select TA’s. Her commitment to her students is high and she has a large student base returning to her classes every year. Vidya has an M.A. from USC, and an Early Childhood Teaching Certificate. For more details, please visit www.sciencebeginnings.com — page 22.

Our busy mornings will feature many stories, crafts, music and other senses-related readiness activities in beginning reading, writing, math and science. Students will receive quality instruction in singing, drawing, crafts and woodworking, learn several songs, make directed science drawings in a sketchbook, and build many crafts and wood projects to take home, including a loop viewer, a working banjo, an animation flipper and so many more! This program is ONLY for children entering Kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten Fall, 2023.
