NATIONAL

The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department is unique amongst its peers, in part, due to the Orinda Youth Sports leagues the department manages, operating three out of four quarters a year. Among the current leagues offered to children ages Pre-K through 5th Grade, OYS Fall Soccer, Winter Basketball, Spring T-ball/Baseball and Spring Soccer, providing children recreational opportunities, and often introducing these sports and igniting the initial passion to play.

Orinda Youth Sports serves approximately 2600 children (registrations) in one year, contributing to approximately 3,000 hours of instruction and play, which would not be possible without the endless hours of selfless dedication, compassion, and investment of time by our group of remarkable volunteers.

Therefore, Orinda Parks and Rec would like to take this opportunity to say thank you and

Volunteer

Taijiquan (Tai Chi/Qigong)

AGES: 18Y & UP

INSTRUC TOR: MARILYN COOPER Class starts with Qigong, which means Energy Work. Warm-ups come next, which define the range of motion for Tai Chi, stretch the tendons and strengthen the muscles. Tai Chi forms are based on three main precepts: Slow, Sink and Soft. “Tai Chi originates in the Mind.” Once movements are memorized, students join them together in one continuous flow, which creates a Mind, Body, Spirit connection and a well-earned, elevated state of being. Beginners start with one hour and then advance to sustain their concentration for one-and-a-half hour class. Beginners can stay to copy advanced students. We introduce Push Hands from the beginning, a non-injurious method of Tai Chi sparring, which teaches sensitivity, centering and rooting.

WITHDRAWL & REFUND REQUESTS

Our commitment is to meet the needs of our community by providing accessible opportunities for everyone. This begins with helping community members plan their schedules effectively. To handle withdrawal requests fairly and reduce disruptions, we have implemented the following policies based on the timing of these requests. We advise community members to carefully review their schedules in advance to avoid overbooking, as lastminute changes, or requests, can lead to a series of unfavorable outcomes.

• Camps: Any request that is submitted less than two months prior to summer camp season starting, is subject to a Camp Refund Fee of 3%–7% of registration fees (depending on timing), and a processing fee of $5 for credit cards or $20 for checks, per transaction. Requests less than five days prior to the start of the camp will not be provided (unless approved by Recreation Staff). Refunds will not be provided after the camp has begun.

• Classes: Registration may be cancelled up to five days prior to the scheduled class for a refund, less a processing fee of $5 for credit cards or $20 for checks. Requests less than five days prior to the start of the class will not be provided (unless approved by Recreation Staff).

• Sports Leagues: Any request received after teams have been formed (OYS) and/or shortly before the season starts, is subject to a Sports League Withdrawal Fee of 25%–50% of registration fees (depending on timing), and a processing fee of $5 for credit cards or $20 for checks.
