Orinda Summer Enrichment Program Down on the Farm Entering Grades K–3 Pull on those overalls, stick a piece of straw between your teeth and prepare to get a little muddy as this year we present a really fun and very informative visit “Down On The Farm!” Besides a look at the animals made famous by farm life—horses, cows, chickens, pigs, sheep and goats—we will also learn about many fascinating things that are connected with them: wool and weaving, eggs and incubators, hay and grain for feeding animals, and milking cows and churning butter. From windmills to weather vanes, tractors to plows, we will also go “hands on” with the tools farmers use. Barns, farm houses, watermills, and other farm structures will finish out our journey through American farm life! Don’t miss this opportunity to “harvest” such a fun and enriching summer! Location: Enrichment Program Site to be determined in May

Elementary Program 1st–3rd Grade: American Farm Life Grade-specific self-contained 3-hour classes. We present “American Farm Life.” Our elementary age students take a fascinating look at the workings of American farms. Besides the care and feeding of animals, we will also take a look at the machines that make farms productive: windmills, tractors, incubators and milking machines. And, of course, how crops and gardens are grown and harvested. Our program in each classroom features these elements: • Drawing Life “Down on The Farm”—Each student will have a summer “Farm Life” sketchbook and receive expert drawing instruction twice weekly: drawing animals, farm buildings, machines and more. Students take home a full sketchbook at program’s end. • Farm Science Journal—Students will keep a journal, writing science facts and learning illustrating and labeling techniques. • Down on the Farm Art—Students will create farm-themed art works in a variety of media, worthy to hang in your own barn! • Animal Modeling—Students will receive instruction to model farm animals in different media… so real you’ll swear they “moo!” • “Old MacDonald’s” Music—Students learn songs written and sung on farms. We all sing together weekly! • Rural Wood Projects—Students will create quality wood construction projects. All students will construct a farm toy and a “weathervane.” We strive to put “hands-on” fun into each day, with an emphasis on student investigation, creation and expression. To us, that is truly enriching to students. Join us for a busy trip, “Down on the Farm” this summer! First Grade
