ORINDA CAMPS INFORMATION
Choose your own adventure camp guide! Step 1: Select your week Step 2: Find your age Step 3: Choose your adventure! Full-time care and programming available from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday–Friday starting at $395 for Camp Orinda and $460 for adventure camps*. • Fees are $210/$241.50 (NR) for AM Camp only, or PM Camp only, held at the Orinda Community Center. Nature Camp

• Fees are $420/$483 (NR) if you choose both an AM and PM Camp. MUST add Camp Connector BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch, 12:00–1:00 pm) for $10/$11.50 (NR); registration is required. • AM Extended Care (7:30–9:00 am) and PM Extended Care (4:00–6:00 pm) options are available for an additional $15/$17.25 (NR) each. *Material fees may apply. The city will no longer collect these during registration. Your instructor will contact you directly to collect fees. All camps will have a 3% facility preservation fee applied.
Get Paid to Have Fun! Have you ever wanted to work with children? Do you function well in a fast-paced, action-packed environment? Do you want to go on fun trips to Waterworld, Six Flags, Sky High and more? Camp Orinda may be the perfect opportunity for you. The City of Orinda is looking for motivated, responsible, outgoing and fun-loving individuals to join our team as camp counselors this summer. Applications and additional questionnaire can be found on our city’s human resources page at: cityoforinda.org. Applications are due March 2, 2020. We will contact applicants shortly thereafter to schedule interviews. Ages 16+

JUMP START KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM: “OUR FABULOUS FIVE SENSES!”
A 3-hour class for students who will enter Kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten in the Fall of 2020, we proudly present “Our Fabulous Five Senses!,” featuring our 4-week kindergarten preparation curriculum, lovingly taught by an Orinda kindergarten teacher with over 40 years of experience in Orinda Kindergarten classrooms! This unique class has been specially designed to ease incoming K-kids into school with a love of learning and a positive jumping start on socialization! The morning exactly mimics a regular kindergarten school day. Our Five Senses theme features a fun look at exactly how we see, hear, touch, smell and taste, and also how we use our senses to make sense of our world! Our busy mornings will feature many stories, crafts and other senses-related readiness activities in beginning reading, writing, math and science. Lots of fun and study for our newest students! Every student will receive quality instruction in singing, drawing and woodworking, learning several songs, making directed drawings in a sketchbook, and build many crafts and wood projects to take home, including a loop viewer, a working banjo, an animation flipper and so many more!

Art Camp
WEEKS: 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 Students learn new skills, use a variety of media, and extend their understanding of art concepts. Each week has a different theme. Spend a week drawing, painting, and creating 3-dimensional art. Daily projects incorporate a variety of skills and use media such as graphite and colored pencils, watercolor and tempura paints, pastels, paper mache, yarn, and other materials. Bring a daily snack. $25 materials fee is due to instructor prior to first day of camp. AGES: 5–9Y
Art, Music and Playtime
WEEKS: 1, 2, 3, 7 Children will use their creative energy during this summer camp filled with art projects, music, and dance. Children will use mixed media to create fun art projects to take home. Every camper takes home the gold this week as they learn about the Olympics through fun and active sports and games. WEEKS: 3–4, 7–8 Counselor in Training (CIT) Camp is perfect for teens interested in developing their leadership skills and being a camp counselor themselves one day! CIT Camp focuses on leadership, volunteerism, and fun, and our trained camp staff will lead CITs through various activities to better prepare them to be successful leaders in our community and beyond! WEEKS: 3, 5, 7, 8 Immerse yourself in the exciting world of chess! Chess is fun, and can be learned quickly and easily! If you are new to chess or just polishing your skills, come develop your understanding and enjoyment of the king of games. In addition to the thrill of the game, students of chess have been shown to gain improvement in test results in reading, science, and math, as well as growth in other cognitive skills. LEGO FLIX WEEK: 10 Bring Lego worlds to life! We provide the Legos. You provide your imagination. Work in groups to create a Lego set with Lego characters for a stop-motion movie you’ll storyboard, shoot, and add voice-overs to. LIVE ACTION WEEK: 4 Discover your filmmaking talents! You don’t have to be an actor to take part, as we’ll guide you through the Hollywood process to create, direct, film, act, and more. You won’t just make an incredible movie, you’ll have the skills to make your own movies with friends. Musical Theater Camps: Little Theater
WEEKS: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9
This is a highly-supportive environment for campers to develop their courage to act, sing and dance in front of an audience. Children do not have to know how to read. Children also do not have to have all of their lines completely memorized for the show. This 1/2 day camp incorporates daily blocking, choreography, musical rehearsal and a performance onstage with costumes, scenery! The cast is given a script lasting about 30–40 minutes with about 4–7 songs. First day of camp children play-act games to memorize one sentence and speak it, or sing part of a song. Musical Theater Camps: Ovations Musical Theater
WEEKS: 3, 6, 8, 9, 10 Fun, challenging, and engaging, self-esteem skyrockets as members learn to develop character, vocal technique, presentation, acting skills, accents, and dance skills. Scripts are customized for each cast to feature and comfortably challenge every performer. Designed for the camper who is ready for a slightly higher level of commitment, however prior experience is not necessary. The cast is given a script lasting about 45 minutes to 1 hour with about 6–10 songs. Requires a commitment from members. Participants are expected to independently study their lines, songs, and blocking, as scheduled, and to attend all camp days. Please have your child prepare a song for the first day. WEEKS: 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9 As CITs NOT performing roles for “Little Theater,” older campers assist experienced instructors with classroom management and by helping younger campers memorize choreography, lines and songs with craft activities. They also take on leadership roles backstage during dress rehearsals and shows. CITs for “Orinda Ovations” is ideal for a camper interested in providing back stage support for campers closer to their own age. CITs must be able to attend dress rehearsals and shows. Nature Camp
WEEK: 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 Unplugged and in nature every morning for the week! Hike, explore, conduct experiments, play games—all in the great outdoors at the historic Wagner Ranch Nature Area (next to Wagner Ranch School). Explore creeks, ponds (tadpoles, frogs & turtles), and meadows with Naturalist Toris Jaeger & staff. Find & learn about native plant, bird and animal species that have lived in Orinda for hundreds of years. Other themes include workings of the natural environment, ethnobiology, cultural history of the area (including native stories and games), sustainability, and other subjects. Campers will spend time journaling every day, recording their experiences through writing, drawing and charting (journals provided). The week wraps up with a celebratory barbeque on Friday. Registration may be cancelled up to five days prior to the scheduled camp for a refund minus a processing fee of $5 for credit cards or $20 for checks. Requests less than five days prior to the start of the camp are subject to approval by Recreation Staff. No refunds after the program has begun. A 3% facility preservation fee applies to all camps.
Facility Preservation Fee
SINCE SEPTEMBER 2018 On May 2, 2017, the Orinda City Council approved the Facility Preservation Fee for the Parks and Recreation Department. The fee is similar to the existing Per Player Fee applied to Sports Facility rentals for sports facility maintenance. This fee is currently applied as a tax to each department transaction (excluding sports facility rentals) in order to provide transparency in how the fee is collected. The funds generated will be used for the preservation of recreation facilities, particularly the Orinda Community Center, and help supplement the limited resources available in the General Fund.
