Special Events
We know things are vastly different this year, and because of that sometimes it is even more important to maintain some sense of normalcy with treasured traditions. So despite COVID-19’s best efforts to limit the Halloween spirit, Orinda Parks and Rec is asking the community to keep it alive. In order to keep the Orinda community safe, the department has cancelled the beloved Halloween Tot Parade; instead we’re asking the community to share your most beloved Halloween photos with our department. These photos will be circulated on the City’s social media platforms and website at the end of October in order to virtually spread glee throughout the community. If you and / or your family are interested in participating in our ghoulishly virtual, memory lane parade, please complete the following Photo Release form that can be found here, www.cityoforinda.org/DocumentCenter/View/2984/Photo-Release-for-Halloween, and submit the form and your photos to OrindaParksandRec@cityoforinda.org by Friday, October 16, 2020.
We are sad to announce the following events have been cancelled: Halloween Tot Parade Orinda Holiday Bazaar
A Sweet Dream Nutcracker Presented by The Orinda Ballet Academy & Company
Performances subject to Health and Safey Guidelines set forth by Contra Costa County. Please visit http://www.orindaballetacademy.com/ for more information.

Skyhawks Sports
Skyhawks School & Sports Club offers interactive childcare and distance learning support to kids grades K-5th. Campers will be divided into Stable Groups of 12-kids based on grade and school. Campers will spend the day with their Skyhawks Director working on School Assignments, Physical Education, Sports Development, and Social Skills. Parents can drop their kids off before work and pick them up afterwards, knowing their schoolwork has been completed, they have received plenty of exercise, and played with their friends. Time for some quality family time! School/Academic Support: Skyhawks Directors will support the students with their Virtual Program. Keeping them engaged with the Live Virtual Classes, helping them with their homework, and tutoring on the district/class curriculum. Sports/Athletic Development: When the kids are not doing their schoolwork, they will be outside with their Skyhawks Director playing sports and working on their athletic development. We will focus on Confidence, Passion, Flexibility, Agility, Calisthenics, Endurance, and Sport Specific Skill Development while making sure these kids are getting plenty of exercise and able to participate in team games in a safe and positive environment (not a complete sentence). Social Skills: A major focus during these strange times is to make sure the kids are still interacting with other kids their same age and participating in Social Enrichment activities. Skyhawks Directors will dedicate time each day to work on Leadership, Public Speaking, Confidence, Self Esteem, Teamwork, Sportsmanship, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Problem Solving, Strategy, and Conflict Resolution. Safety is our #1 priority for our club members. Kids will be placed into Stable Groups with 1 Skyhawks Director. Kids will only interact within their Stable Group to limit exposure and keep the kids and directors as safe as possible. Friend/Family requests will be allowed to minimize the number of Social Bubbles needed for each family. While indoors, the kids and directors will be socially distanced and wearing face coverings. We are closely following all CDC/CCHS guidelines and have created new Safety Protocols to ensure a safe educational environment where kids can interact with other kids their age, get in-person academic support, develop their sports/social skills, and get plenty of exercise during this time of COVID-19. A 3% facility preservation fee applies to all classes. SINCE AUGUST 2018
Facility Preservation Fee On May 2, 2017, the Orinda City Council approved the Facility Preservation Fee for the Parks and Recreation Department. The fee is similar to the existing Per Player Fee applied to Sports Facility rentals for sports facility maintenance. The Parks and Recreation Department implemented the fee with the Fall/Winter class registration beginning August 1, 2018. This fee is currently applied as a tax to each department transaction (excluding sports facility rentals) in order to provide transparency in how the fee is collected. The funds generated will be used for the preservation of non-sports specific recreation facilities, particularly the Orinda Community Center, and help supplement the limited resources available in the General Fund. To learn more, visit http://orindaparksandrec.org/400/Facility-Preservation-Fee
Registration may be cancelled up to 5 days prior to the scheduled class for a refund minus a processing fee of $5 for credit cards or $20 for checks. Requests less than 5 days prior to the start of the class are subject to approval by Recreation Staff. No refunds after the program has begun. MEDICATION
If medication is needed (prescription or over the counter) for underage participants, a supplemental Parental Consent & Directions to Staff for the Self-Administration of Medications Form is recommended. Form available on our website (orindaparksandrec.org) or at the office. NON-RESIDENT FEES
Non Orinda residents will be assessed a 15% fee at the time of registration. Non-resident fees will not be adjusted for pro-rated classes. Parks and Recreation Forms can be downloaded at www.orindaparksandrec.org/328/Forms-and-Documents.
