Students develop confidence, coordination, agility, and balance while learning how to defeat a larger and stronger attacker by using that person’s own energy and strength against them. Orinda Youth Sports: Soccer Grades Pre-K–K
Grades 1–2
Welcome to the world of Orinda youth sports. For many players this is their first time playing any team sport, so we like to keep things fast, fun, and beginner friendly. Weekday practices not only develop basic skills, such as passing and shooting, but help develop life skills such as team-work, respect, and fair play. Games, played Saturdays, are played 4v4 so players get more opportunities and space to play. 8 players per team maximum.
In our 1st and 2nd grade leagues players continue to develop their skills, while learning more about the basic strategies and tactics of soccer. At practice, coaches focus on skill development through mini-games and team drills, while games on Saturdays are played 6v6 with a goalie. 10 players per team maximum.

Grades 5+
In our 3rd and 4th grade leagues teams expand and so does the fun! Games are played 8v8 with a goalie as older players continue to learn the strategies and tactics of soccer. At practices coaches emphasize teamwork while expanding on the basic skills to include offensive and defensive strategies. 12 players per team maximum.
At this age, we partner with Lamorinda Soccer Club to put on a great league for our oldest players. This league is perfect for players who want to continue playing soccer, but aren’t as interested in more competitive club programs. Coaches focus on offensive and defensive strategies while refining fundamental skills. Games are regulation 11v11 in these age groups. 14 players per team maximum.

Orinda Youth Sports: Teams & Coaches Would you like to play with friends this season in OYS sports? There are a few ways to make that happen when you register. 1. CREATE YOUR TEAM If you have a group of friends you’d like to play with, register with that team!
2. PLAY FOR YOUR SCHOOL If you don’t have a specific coach you would like to play with, you can still play with friends from your school!
a. Find your coach
During registration list your school and you will be placed with as many players as possible from the same school.
b. Have your coach complete the OYS Roster Form available online at orindaparksandrec.org or at the Orinda Community Center
Please note—in some situations a school may have more players registered than spaces available. In these situations excess players will be placed together and then combined with another group to create a full team.
c. Have your coach submit the completed form to the Orinda Community Center or jstearns@cityoforinda.org d. Register for the league using the appropriate barcode e. Once these steps have been completed OYS staff will place all registered players with their corresponding team. Please note—your coach must list you on their roster form in order to be included on their team. If a player is not listed on the form they may be assigned to another team at the discretion of OYS staff. All players registered will be placed with a team. Team assignments are released no later than two weeks prior to the start of practices.
NEW THIS SEASON!
3. ENROLL AS A “FREE-AGENT” If you just want to play, and you’re happy no matter where, you’ll register as a “free-agent”
During registration in the “additional comments” section write: Free Agent. You will automatically be placed with as many people from your listed school as possible, but as a free agent, may end up with players from another school as well. Please note—OYS Staff greatly appreciate Free Agents for their flexibility and readiness to make new friends!
Tri-Sport Registration
If you plan to play in all OYS sports this school year—Fall Soccer, Winter Basketball, and Spring T-Ball/Baseball/Softball, the Tri-Sport Registration is perfect for you! Register once, for all three sports and receive a great discount! VS.

VETERANS’ BURIAL BENEFIT WORKSHOP
Sarah Winchester was a true woman of independence, drive, and courage who lives on in legend as a grieving widow who continuously built (and built and built) onto her initially small, two-story farmhouse to appease the spirits of those killed by the guns manufactured by her husband’s firearms company. Your tour will take you through many rooms of the stately mansion, known around the world as the Winchester Mystery House, and see the bizarre attributes that give the mansion its name; a window built into the floor, stairs leading to ceilings, doors that open onto blank walls, a seeming obsession with the numeral 13, cobweb motifs, etc. After the tour you may visit the Victorian Gardens, Museum, and Specialty Gifts shop. Following the tour, we will stop at Santana Row, an outdoor shopping center in San Jose, where you will have time to shop and have lunch on your own. Fees do not include lunch.

BEGINNING IN FALL 2018...
Facility Preservation Fee On May 2, 2017, the Orinda City Council approved the Facility Preservation Fee. This is an administrative fee similar to the existing Per Player Fee for Sports Leagues in which a 3% charge will be added to each department transaction (excluding sports facility rentals). The funds generated by this fee will be used exclusively for the maintenance and preservation of non-sports specific recreation facilities, particularly the Orinda Community Center, and help supplement the limited resources available in the General Fund. The Orinda Community Center was built in 1925 and has experienced periods of renovation through the years. However, we have experienced several decades of deferred maintenance and several building amenities have reached, or are nearing, the end of their useful lives, including the roof, the windows, the HVAC systems, and much of the flooring. And as more time passes, the more costly the projects will be. Although Orinda’s current economic state cannot support the entire cost of the maintenance, the City is committed to improving energy efficiency and is working with agencies that can provide assistance with design, implementation, and financing.
