BEGINNING IN 2018...
Facility Preservation Fee On May 2, 2017, the Orinda City Council approved the Facility Preservation Fee. This is an administrative fee similar to the existing Per Player Fee for Sports Leagues in which a 3% charge will be added to each department transaction (excluding sports facility rentals). The funds generated by this fee will be used exclusively for the maintenance and preservation of non-sports specific recreation facilities, particularly the Orinda Community Center, and help supplement the limited resources available in the General Fund. The Orinda Community Center was built in 1925 and has experienced periods of renovation through the years. However, we have experienced several decades of deferred maintenance and several building amenities have reached, or are nearing, the end of their useful lives, including the roof, the windows, the HVAC systems, and much of the flooring. And as more time passes, the more costly the projects will be. Although Orinda’s current economic state cannot support the entire cost of the maintenance, the City is committed to improving energy efficiency and is working with agencies that can provide assistance with design, implementation, and financing.
ORINDA TEEN ADVISORY COUNCIL (OTAC) OTAC is a fun, welcoming, teen driven community service organization. Each year OTAC members host special events for teens, work closely with the City of Orinda and City Council on teen issues, and provides community service throughout the Lamorinda area. If you’re looking to make new friends, impact your community, and have fun the Orinda Teen Advisory Council is the club for you. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 4:00 pm, at the Orinda Community Center. Teens are welcome to join anytime. Please call (925) 254-2445 or email OrindaParksandRec@cityoforinda.org for more information.

In this class, we will learn about the seven major chakras in our body, and their interconnections with our organs and their effects on our health. With this knowledge, we will work together on techniques that can improve our health and give us more control over our physical and emotional state. Can we be aware of our health and changes in our body without constantly exposing ourselves to unnecessary chemicals? Humanity is continually moving toward a scientific understanding of what is considered Ancient Eastern Mysticism. Chakras (or points of energy in our body) were considered a myth until science stepped in and helped us better understand the role of energy in our bodies. Scientists have found that our cells emit radiation and energy like any source of power. These integrated energy centers are correlated with our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. What are chakras and how can we improve our health by knowing more about them?
Mojgan Kaviani
Practiced for thousands of years, meditation is a technology that benefits your body, mind and soul, awakening creativity, healing and transformation. Be guided through all aspects of meditation covering introduction and primary techniques, posture (Asana) and breath (Prana,) mantra, chakras and layers of life, consciousness, well-being and group meditation. After learning the technique students will be able to practice on their own and achieve goals including inner tranquility, well-being and concentration. WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE TOUR/SANTANA ROW SHOPPING AND LUNCH
Sarah Winchester was a true woman of independence, drive, and courage who lives on in legend as a grieving widow who continuously built (and built and built) onto her initially small, two-story farmhouse to appease the spirits of those killed by the guns manufactured by her husband’s firearms company. Your tour will take you through many rooms of the stately mansion, known around the world as the Winchester Mystery House, and see the bizarre attributes that give the mansion its name; a window built into the floor, stairs leading to ceilings, doors that open onto blank walls, a seeming obsession with the numeral 13, cobweb motifs, etc. After the tour you may visit the Victorian Gardens, Museum, and Specialty Gifts shop. Following the tour, we will stop at Santana Row, an outdoor shopping center in San Jose, where you will have time to shop and have lunch on your own. Fees do not include lunch. Barcode Dates
