Dillon Magh Adhair, Irish Dance Academy Staff
DMA Irish Dance Academy feels very strongly that dancers are taught Irish Dancing to the very highest standard, keeping the dance form true to its Irish roots. It is important that the link to Ireland is maintained in everything we do and that the dance continues to be placed in its cultural context. Students will learn the basics of this ever evolving and beautiful dance form. As this is a solo and team dance form both solo and ‘ceili’ will be covered as part of the course. It is hoped that the dancers will leave with a knowledge of Irish dance and culture, including music, history, and more! Location: Community Center, Room 2 No class 1/18, 2/15, 4/4 Barcode Dates

Our Kindergym program offers range-of-movement exploration activities where a child can climb, hang, jump, balance and bounce. In this healthy environment, the parent offers positive, encouraging, and helpful feedback. A skilled staff member is always on hand to assist. The equipment is rearranged each week to provide a new challenge. Parents are required to have infants in packs. Siblings are only allowed in class if registered. Child must be walking. Judo, ‘the way of gentleness,’ is a modern sport based on Jujitsu, the traditional Japanese art of self-defense. Students develop confidence, coordination, agility, and balance while learning how to defeat a larger and stronger attacker by using that person’s own energy and strength against them. Program teaches practical self-defense (not fighting) through fun games, friendly competition, and discipline, as well as escaping, grappling, and throwing techniques from Judo and Jujitsu. SINGLE A (T-BALL)
Ages 4–6Y (required by OYA guidelines) The entry level league for young baseball and softball players learning the sport for the first time (formerly known as our T-Ball League and still plays by the same rules). The elimination of pitching allows children to develop the coordination to properly hit the ball and eliminates the fear of being hit by a pitch. Players will develop primary skills: hitting, running, fielding and throwing. The goal of the league is for children to have fun, establish strong fundamentals and understand the basic rules and positions of the sport. Barcode: 20356
DOUBLE A
Ages 5–6Y (required by OYA guidelines) Must have at least one year of T-Ball experience. This division is designed to introduce hitting live balls to young baseball and softball players through coach pitching (formerly known as our Incrediball League and still plays by the same rules). Each batter gets a maximum of five opportunities to hit a ball pitched by a coach. If after five pitches are thrown and the batter has not gotten a hit, a batting tee is brought out for players to hit from. Players will continue to develop the foundational skills learned in the Single A division including hitting, running, fielding and throwing. The goal of the league is for children to have fun, establish strong fundamentals and understand the basic rules and positions of the sport. All games played at Pine Grove Fields. Barcode: 20357 TRIPLE A
Ages 6–8Y (required by OYA guidelines) Must have at least one year of Incrediball experience. This division is designed to separate the players with more experience and provide an environment where their skills can flourish. Each batter gets a maximum of five opportunities to hit a ball pitched by a coach. If after five pitches are thrown and the batter has not gotten a hit, a batting tee is brought out for players to hit from. Players will continue to develop the foundational skills learned in the Single and Double A divisions including hitting, running, fielding and throwing. The goal of the league is for children to have fun and continue their development while preparing themselves for the upper levels of baseball/softball competition. All games played at Pine Grove Fields. Barcode: 20597
OYA Girls Softball
OYA Spring Soccer
Grades 3–5 (required by OYA guidelines)
OYA Spring soccer is back! This fast and furious format differs from the OYA Fall Program: games are played with less players on the field (3 vs 3 in U6, 5 vs 5 in U8); teams are smaller to increase individual playing time; goalies are not used to encourage more scoring, with emphasis placed on players developing their skills in dribbling, passing, shooting and open field defense. U6 is played at Del Rey, U8 is played at Wilder Field 3. 30-minute practice followed by 30-minute games, Sunday mornings and afternoons. No weekday practices.
Designed introduce young girls to the sport of softball. In addition, this gives girls their first opportunity to pitch and to also hit balls pitched by an opposing player. There are no walks, after four balls are thrown the coach comes out to pitch a maximum of three balls. Players will continue the development of the foundational softball skills learned in the Single and Double A divisions including hitting, running, fielding and throwing. The goal of the league is for children to have fun and continue their development while preparing themselves to play softball at the next level. One practice per week. Practices: Monday–Fridays, 5:00 pm–6:00 pm, beginning the week of March 28. You will be notified of your team placement by Monday, March 21. Please do not contact the City of Orinda prior to this day regarding team placement. Games: Saturdays, 9:00 am–1:00 pm, beginning April 16; no games played on Memorial Day weekend. Two Over One Ages 18Y and up
Carol Griffin
The main objective is to develop a “Plan by Declarer” including the counting of winners or losers, developing tricks, finessing, eliminating losers, managing the trump suit, considering entries and avoiding the ‘dangerous’ opponent. Class will start with a short lecture, followed by exercises and then play and analysis of four predealt hands. Course book is available from the instructor.
Two over One is a popular variation of the Standard American bidding system. This system helps the players to get to the best game contract or explore slam possibilities at a lower level. We also introduce the response of 1NT as a forcing bidding to improve the partscore contracts. Each class will have practice hands to help experience this modification.
