Inventing means curiosity, practicality, necessity, cooperating and dreaming! Join us as we take students on a historical journey with a hands-on approach learning about some of the worlds’ greatest inventors from Leonardo da Vinci to Tesla to Thomas Edison to the Wright Brothers. So you think you can dance? Come take a class exploring the type of choreography used on this show. Lyrical is a style of dance that uses the emotion and mood of the music to elicit movements from the dancers. Students have a warm up focusing in core strength, flexibility, and movement of the back. The class includes floor work, progressions, and center combinations. Contemporary explores the qualities of released and off-balance dancing while daring students to find disparate qualities of stillness and explosion. Students are encouraged to develop an individual style driven by their internal life and the specificity of their bodies. Wear dance clothes or yoga pants and tight top. Bare feet or dance shoes. New Sport this Spring! Ultimate Frisbee! This Spring Orinda Parks and Recreation and Bay Area Disc Association (BADA) are excited to offer a new 4th/5th Grade Coed Ultimate Frisbee league. Ultimate, a fun, fast-paced game, played 7v7 on a football field, improves speed, stamina, and hand-eye coordination for all players. Combining elements of soccer, basketball, and American football—teams score points by throwing the disc down the field, and catching the disc in the opposing teams endzone. As a self-officiated sport, Ultimate also teaches conflict resolution skills, as players and teams work together to ensure fair-play and good sportsmanship. The league features one weekday practice, and a weekly game on Fridays, and a tournament in the middle and end of the season. All players receive a disc and team specific jersey for participating. For further questions about Ultimate or the league, please contact Jackson Stearns at jstearns@cityoforinda.org.

Beginning Obedience is the foundation for all training goals. We teach you how to motivate your dog to want to learn the basics of heel, sit, and down. We teach how to shape the “leave it” and “come” commands, and the command “wait” to prevent your dog from bolting through doors. This is a critical step in developing a healthy bond, and puts your dog on the road to a more meaningful life. The first class of the session is mandatory, and you come without your dog. Appropriate for dogs 20 weeks and older. Please bring a copy of your dog’s vaccination records for the instructor to keep. Minimum age for handler is 18. Barcode Dates

Twenty short years ago, there were no veteran’s cemeteries available to serve Bay Area Veterans. Today, there are Veterans cemeteries serving Bay Area Vets and a new one opening soon in Alameda. Sacred Space Memorial has over 35 years’ experience serving Veterans and their families. In this workshop, learn about the VA and CalVet burial benefits, new cemeteries, who is eligible, and how to apply for this valuable benefit. Also learn what is included in the benefit, what the family’s remaining responsibilities will be, and how to create a “one call does it all solution.” Burial in a National Cemetery is free to veterans and their eligible dependents but it is not automatic. It must be applied for and the worst day to apply is the day it is needed. Location: Community Center, Room 5 Barcode Dates

General Registration Information Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and is required for all classes and camps prior to participation. Register early as some classes fill quickly or may be cancelled due to low enrollment. You will be notified if a class is full, cancelled, or if there is a change. CANCELLED CLASSES
Classes and activities not meeting the minimum enrollment 2–4 days prior to the start of class will be cancelled and a full refund will be issued. REFUND AND TRANSFER REQUESTS
A 3% facility preservation fee applies to all classes. SINCE SEPTEMBER 2018
Facility Preservation Fee On May 2, 2017, the Orinda City Council approved the Facility Preservation Fee for the Parks and Recreation Department. The fee is similar to the existing Per Player Fee applied to Sports Facility rentals for sports facility maintenance. The Parks and Recreation Department implemented the fee with the Fall/Winter class registration beginning August 1. This fee is currently applied as a tax to each department transaction (excluding sports facility rentals) in order to provide transparency in how the fee is collected. The funds generated will be used for the preservation of non-sports specific recreation facilities, particularly the Orinda Community Center, and help supplement the limited resources available in the General Fund. To learn more, visit http://orindaparksandrec.org/400/Facility-Preservation-Fee
Registration may be cancelled up to 5 days prior to the scheduled class for a refund minus a processing fee of $5 for credit cards or $20 for checks. Requests less than 5 days prior to the start of the class are subject to approval by Recreation Staff. No refunds after the program has begun. MEDICATION
If medication is needed (prescription or over the counter) for underage participants, a supplemental Parental Consent & Directions to Staff for the Self-Administration of Medications Form is recommended. Form available on our website (orindaparksandrec.org) or at the office. VISIONS IN EDUCATION CLIENTS
