Choose your own adventure camp guide! Step 1: Select your week Step 2: Find your age Step 3: Choose your adventure! Full-time care and programming from 7:00 am–6:00 pm, Monday–Friday for ONLY $330!!! • All summer camps $180/$207 (non-resident) for 9:00 am–12:00 pm or 1:00–4:00 pm at the Orinda Community Center • Or choose both and AM and PM camp for $330/$380 (non-resident)* • FREE** extended care 7:00–9:00 am, 12:00–1:00 pm and 4:00–6:00 pm for those who register! Same great-quality, creative and fun programming you have come to expect from the City of Orinda presented at set fees with care available from 7:00 am–6:00 pm for one low price of $330 for the entire week! *For discount must call or walk in to register **Free extended care for camps offered at Orinda Community Center and Pine Grove Park for summer 2016 only.

Get Paid to Have Fun! Have you ever wanted to work with children? Do you function well in a fast-paced, action-packed environment? Do you want to go on fun trips to Waterworld, Six Flags, Sky High and more? Camp Orinda may be the perfect opportunity for you. The City of Orinda is looking for motivated, personable, outgoing and fun-loving individuals to join our team as camp counselors this summer. Applications and additional questionnaire can be found on our city’s human resources page at: cityoforinda.org. Applications are due by closing on Friday, March 18th. We will be contacting applicants shortly thereafter to schedule interviews.

Enrichment Program: Entering Grades K–3

Top ‘o the morning! Join us this summer for an enriching look at the fascinating and magical land of Ireland! We will explore the geography, people and culture of this magnificent island country, experiencing the music, dance, art, stories and folklore, sports and games, language and many other areas that are uniquely Irish. Get close up to castles, dance a Celtic jig, hear beguiling stories of leprechauns, fairies, elves, mermaids and wee folk. Craft work will include rainbows and shamrocks of course, but also butterflies, harps, family crests, weaving and model making. Every student will receive instruction in art, learn many songs, and make wood projects. We will try our hand at learning a Wee bit ’O Irish: Gaelic! And cooking that features more than just potatoes! Special Fun Fridays will all feature activities and special guests along our Ireland theme. Participants learn the skills required for success in youth baseball with drills designed to teach them the proper throwing, fielding, hitting, base running and pitching techniques. Extended Care Options Extended Care, AM

WEEKS: 1–10 New this summer! The City is offering morning extended care from 7:00 am–9:00 am. Staff will provide games, activities and crafts for your child until it is time for their morning camp. At 9:00 am all campers will be dropped off at their morning camp (this only pertains to camps taking place at the Orinda Community Center and Pine Grove Park). This service is being offered free of charge. Space is limited, you must sign up to attend. AGES: 4–14Y

WEEKS: 1–10 Let us create a full day camp for you, as you choose your own adventure! If your child is enrolled in a morning camp at the Orinda Community Center or Pine Grove Park, and an afternoon camp at the Orinda Community Center or Pine Grove Park, we will have City Camp Staff pick your child up, supervise a lunch period, play fun games and create exciting projects with them. WEEK 2, ALOHA SUMMER

Join us as we heat up the summer, Hawaiian-style. We will create leis, grass skirts, Hawaiian shirts, and coconuts all week in preparation for our Friday Luau dance off. Adventures: Adventure Playground and Pump it Up.

WEEK 3, HOLIDAY HOLLABALOO

Why celebrate just one holiday this summer? This week’s fun includes Halloween, Thanksgiving and the 4th of July featuring games, crafts and traditions from each. Adventures: Cal High Pool and Central Park Water Play Structure.

WEEK 4, ADRENALINE RUSH

Two trips that are sure to get your heart pumping. We will also host a Bike Rodeo, teaching bike and traffic safety with games and prizes. Adventures: Six Flags and Rock Climbing at City Beach.

WEEK 5, JURASSIC ISLAND

Travel back in time 150 million years ago as we explore dinosaurs and the habitat that they roamed during the Mesozoic Era. Adventures: Scandia Fun Center and the Exploratorium.

WEEK 6, AQUA ADVENTURES

Join us as we get wet and wild while on a journey through the deep blue sea. Adventures: Jelly Belly Factory and Waterworld.

WEEK 7, A TRIP TO OUTER SPACE

1, 2, 3... Blast off! Our space explorers will journey through the galaxy bouncing from planet to planet to learn the infinite wisdom of yoda, how to operate a lightsaber and best of all: how to use the force! Adventures: Sky High and Games2u.

WEEK 8, SUPER HEROES IN TRAINING

Does your child want to grow up to fight crime, use special powers or learn how to change in phone booths? Put your child through basic training as we prepare them for life as a superhero. Adventures: Lake Anza and Magic Dan.

Cheerleading: High Spirit Cheer & Dance Camp

Learn cheer fundamentals, as well as simple fun routines and lessons! Staff guides students in improving their individual skills, while developing confidence and understanding of basic cheer concepts and skills. Children learn beginning gymnastics and tumbling skills, working on bars, low balance beams, mini-trampolines, vaulting blocks and barrels and incline mats. Each day children also participate in other group activities such as ball games, music activities, parachute, and relay and circuit races.

Jedi in Training Camp

WEEKS: 2, 5, 8 A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..... Young lads trained to be Jedi Masters learning wisdom from Yoda, lightsaber skills from Obi Wan and how to harness the force. Each week campers will play games like escape from the deathstar, and bounty hunter round up as well as work on crafts like droid finger puppets, and model light sabers. AGES: 6–12Y

Little Medical School

WEEK: 3 Using interactive demonstrations, crafts, and games, kids learn how the body and organs work, how to use instruments that real doctors use, administer first aid, and even tie knots like a real surgeon. Mad Science: Eureka! The Inventor’s Academy

WEEKS: 1, 8 Learn about some of the worlds’ greatest inventors from Leonardo da Vinci to Tesla to Thomas Edison to the Wright Brothers. We challenge our class to use their imaginations and creativity to survive on a deserted island by designing devices to capture food and water, by building bridges, shelters and even a boat to make it off the island. We will put our heads together to imagine the future in space focusing on creating inventions to protect space ships from damaging space rays and designing a safety capsules for payloads returning from space. $40 material fee due to instructor at the first day of camp. Mad Science: Flight Academy

WEEK: 7 Learn characteristics of the planets and discover the wonders of the Milky Way. See how air and wind affect kites, hot air balloons and parachutes. Mad Science: Secret Agent Lab Camp

WEEK: 3

A fun journey into the world of detection, spy science, and forensics. We will reconstruct activities using scientific methods and use the science of cryptology to send and decode secret messages. Kids will get a chance to see what can’t be seen by the naked eye and will follow in Sherlock’s steps to learn what tracks can tell us! Join the Mad Science Bureau of Investigations to help foil a burglary using state-of-the art security techniques! $20 material fee due to instructor at the first day of camp. AGES: 6–11Y

INSTRUCTOR: MAD SCIENCE

WEEKS: 1–10 Children of all abilities are welcome! They will learn to develop character, vocal technique, presentation, and dance skills. Children are expected to independently study their lines, songs, blocking, and attend all rehearsals. Most costumes are supplied, but parents are required to provide the basics. Show days and times are subject to change. Parents are asked to volunteer 2–4 hours helping with set up/break down, backstage, or bringing scenery back to Oakland or pay a $60 parent helper opt-out fee. There will also be a fee for show tickets. *All participants MUST enroll in Lunch Bunch.

Plays for 4–8 years old last approximately 40 minutes with about 4–6 songs and the children may be prompted during the play if needed. Plays for 8-14 years old are for children who can fully memorize their part by show time. They should bring a short song to sing by memory. Cast members are given lines to try out different roles. Play-well: LEGO® Robotics with EV3

WEEK: 5 Build and program robots using the LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 or NXT system! Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Work in small groups, program and build your robot, and rise to the challenge. Control the robot to avoid obstacles, pick up and carry objects, and play sounds. Projects are structured so that students work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun. AGES: 9–14Y

WEEK: 5

Build and program robots in this introductory Robotics class using the LEGO® WeDo system. Learn basic programming skills, simple engineering concepts, and the names of robot components. WEEK: 8 Participants learn the fundamentals of passing, rushing, receiving and defense along with the rules, strategy and play-calls of the game. Camp ends with the Skyhawks Super Bowl! Sports, Lacrosse: Run, Pass & Shoot

WEEK: 5 First we focus on being fundamentally sound and technically correct. Players are then grouped by age and ability to learn appropriate drills, skills, techniques and teamwork. Children will then have an opportunity to develop leadership skills and build self-esteem as they improve their technique. Emphasis will be on proper warm-ups, footwork drills, catching, dodging, agility, passing, cradling, shooting, defense and game strategies. This camp will help to build your child’s motor control, hand-eye coordination, agility and many other sports related skills. Your child will have a blast playing games with the other children including: T-ball, soccer, flag football, capture the flag, relay & obstacle races and a whole lot more. This camp will feature different activities so that by the end of the week your child will be familiar with a variety of athletic activities!

Sports, Soccer Summer Camp

LOCATION: PINE GROVE PARK, FIELD A & B AGES: 7–13Y INSTRUCTOR: NATIONAL ACADEMY OF ATHLETICS

WEEK: 10 Learn and practice soccer skills including: dribbling, passing, receiving and shooting. Everyone is a winner as the week’s fun culminates in an age-appropriate World Cup tournament. All campers will receive a soccer ball and a KLS jersey. Campers must bring a full water bottle and a healthy snack. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR SHIN GUARDS. Soccer shoes and sunscreen are recommended. Camp is divided into levels by age.

Sports, Air Attack Flag Football Camp

LOCATION: COMMUNITY CENTER PARK AGES: 5–10Y INSTRUCTOR: KIDZ LOVE SOCCER

WEEK: 10

Whether you are a beginner or more advanced player, the drills taught at this camp will help you improve your game. Our non-contact, camps are the perfect introduction to football. Emphasis will be on proper conditioning and warm-ups, footwork drills, agility, passing, receiving, and game strategies.

The fundamental skills of volleyball are taught through gamespeed drills and daily scrimmages that focus on passing, setting, hitting, and serving. This co-ed program is designed for the beginning and intermediate player. All participants receive a t-shirt, volleyball and player evaluation.

Using the SNAG (Starting New At Golf) system, participants use modified equipment to learn the fundamentals of putting, chipping, pitching and driving in addition to the rules, etiquette and strategy of the game. Sports, World Cup Soccer

WEEK: 8

World Cup Soccer is committed to helping children of all ages and abilities reach their greatest potential as people and athletes. With an emphasis on instruction and a fun atmosphere, campers receive the highest level of attention in an exciting and safe environment. With a 1:10 coach to player ratio, our experienced and educated staff is able to evaluate individual players and focus on developing your child’s athletic and team building skills. Campers will receive a t-shirt, player’s evaluation and a camp memento. Instruction starts at 9:30 am and ends at 3:00 pm. AGES: 5–13Y

Superhero Academy Camp

WEEK: 3 It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s.... your child? Students learn about how to soar like Superman, use speed like the flash and strength like the Hulk, all while learning how they can be real life superheroes each day. By the end of the week each child will have transformed into their own superhero complete with their own powers and costume. AGES: 6–12Y

TENNIS CAMP WITH RON NOON WEEKS: 3, 5, 7, 8 The summer tennis camps with Ron Noon, USPTA Elite Pro and MA in Sports Psychology, and staff will challenge all levels of abilities. Tennis drills will be fun using games to enhance footwork and conditioning! Plus they will emphasize stoke production along with etiquette, rules, and scoring. The goal of the camp is for each participant to have fun and learn a life time sport. The number of participants is limited, so everyone will get individual and quality instruction. Each camper should being a snack, water, hat and sunscreen. $10 material fee is due to the instructor at the first day of camp. WEEKS: 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 10 Every junior tennis player will have the opportunity to experience the fun and excitement that tennis has to offer at the Orinda Tennis Academy Summer Camp. Each individual will learn the proper modern techniques necessary to achieve excellent tennis strokes in a safe and encouraging environment. Every student will learn scoring, court position, and strategy. On the final day of camp there will be awards, prizes, and a pizza party for all players! 1:8 instructor child ratio. $15 material fee due to instructor on the first day of camp. Camps not meeting the minimum enrollment two weeks prior to the start of camp will be cancelled and a full refund issued.
