Choose your own adventure camp guide! Step 1: Select your week Step 2: Find your age Step 3: Choose your adventure! Full-time care and programming from 7:30 am–6:00 pm, Monday–Friday for ONLY $430!!! • Fees are $205/$236 (NR) for AM Camp only, or PM Camp only, held at the Orinda Community Center. • Fees are $410/$472 (NR) if you choose both an AM and PM Camp.* FREE Lunch Bunch (12:00–1:00 pm); registration is required.** • AM Extended Care (7:30–9:00 am) and PM Extended Care (4:00–6:00 pm) options are available for an additional $10/$12 (NR) each.

Get Paid to Have Fun! Have you ever wanted to work with children? Do you function well in a fast-paced, action-packed environment? Do you want to go on fun trips to Waterworld, Six Flags, Sky High and more? Camp Orinda may be the perfect opportunity for you. The City of Orinda is looking for motivated, personable, outgoing and fun-loving individuals to join our team as camp counselors this summer. Applications and additional questionnaire can be found on our city’s human resources page at: cityoforinda.org. Applications are due March 1, 2018. We will be contacting applicants shortly thereafter to schedule interviews.

JUMP START KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM: “A PERFECT PET PARADE!”
A self-contained 3-hour class for students entering Kindergarten in Fall 2018. We proudly present “A Perfect Pet Parade!”, featuring our 4-week Arts and kindergarten preparation curriculum, lovingly taught by Orinda kindergarten specialists, especially designed to ease incoming K-kids into school with a love of learning! The morning mimics a regular kindergarten school day. Our Pets theme features looks at the many kinds of dogs and cats we truly love: their marvelous varieties, behaviors, and how to train and care for them. Our busy mornings will feature many stories, crafts, and many other pets-related readiness activities in beginning reading, writing, math and science. Lots of fun and study for our newest students! And we won’t forget the other pets, birds and fish, that captivate so many of us as well. Every student will receive quality instruction in singing, drawing and woodworking, learning several songs, making directed drawings in a sketchbook, and building a wood project to take home. Extended Care & Lunch Bunch AM Extended Care
WEEKS: 1–10 The City is offering morning extended care from 7:30 am–9:00 am. Staff will provide games, activities and crafts for your child until it is time for their morning camp. At 9:00 am, all campers are escorted by instructors to their morning camp (this only pertains to camps taking place at the Orinda Community Center and Pine Grove Park). Space is limited, sign your child up today and choose your own adventure! Pair morning extended care with lunch bunch and afternoon extended care to create an all day (7:30 am–6:00 pm) camp for your child. AGES: 4–14Y+

Lunch Bunch
WEEKS: 1–10 Let us create a full day camp for you, as you choose your own adventure! If your child is enrolled in a morning camp at the Orinda Community Center and an afternoon camp at the Orinda Community Center or Pine Grove Park, instructors will escort your child to the camp courtyard where city staff will supervise a lunch period, play fun games and create exciting projects with them. At the conclusion of each lunch bunch, instructors will escort your child to their afternoon camp. Please provide a lunch for your child. AGES: 4–14Y+

WEEKS: 1–10 The City is offering afternoon extended care from 4:00 pm–6:00 pm. Staff provides games, activities and crafts for your child after their afternoon camp. WEEKS: 3, 5, 8, 9 Students learn new skills, use a variety of media, and extend their understanding of art concepts. Each week has a different theme. Spend a week drawing, painting, and creating 3-dimensional art. Daily projects incorporate a variety of skills and use media such as graphite and colored pencils, watercolor and tempura paints, pastels, paper mache, yarn, and other materials. WEEKS: 8,9 Designed for older students with previous art experience. This camp will provide intensive instruction in realistic drawing techniques using graphite and colored pencil and in the use of watercolor to portray plants, animals and natural landscapes. WEEKS: 2–9 Camp Orinda is back and better than ever! Camp Orinda offers the best full-day traditional camp experience for active kids, looking for adventure. This summer, Camp Orinda gets some new twists—including a new home at the Orinda Community Center, and more focused activities for our younger and older campers. Each week features fun camp themes, games, crafts, sports, and is more designed to keep your camper engaged, learning, and having fun. 3, 2, 1... Houston we have ignition! Campers learn about the mysteries of space and the universe as we search for life beyond the stars. Field trips: Exploratorium, CA Academy of Science.

The city needs your help! With your awesome powers only you can save the day and defeat the forces of evil! Campers learn about their favorite comic heroes while creating their own adventures using their strongest special power—imagination! No camp July 4. Field trips: Six Flags, Pump it Up.
WEEK 5, FANTASYLAND
Dragons, Knights, Queens, and Kings await in Camp Orinda Fantasyland! Bring your wildest dreams to life with the magic spells and potions we’ll cook up this week. Field trips: Oakland Zoo, Scandia.
WEEK 6, ORINDA OLYMPICS
Every camper wins gold this week as we learn about the Olympics through fun and active sports and games. Campers learn about different countries too while we compete in the inaugural Orinda Olympics! Field trips: Sky High, Rock Climbing.

This week campers take a trip through time visiting the past, present, and future. We’ll check in on the pyramids, visit ancient Rome, and see what our futures hold—adventure! Field trips: Laser Tag, Game2U.

Lights, Camera, Action! We’re the directors, writers, and actors and actresses in our own adventures this week. Join us as we make a short film about all the fun we have at camp. Field trips: Great America and Six Flags.
Counselor in Training (CIT)
WEEKS: 3–4, 5–6, 7–8 New this summer! Counselor in Training Camp (CIT) is perfect for kids interested in having fun while developing their leadership skills. CIT Camp is built on three pillars—Leadership, volunteerism, and fun! Over the course of each two-week session CITs learn and develop the skills necessary to be not only great camp counselors, but leaders. Each session CITs develop a community service project benefitting camp. When they’re not learning leadership skills and helping the community, CITs have fun, attending two field trips each week with Camp Orinda. If your teen is interested in working with youth, helping the community, and making friends this camp is perfect for you. AGES: 12–15

If you are new to chess or just polishing your skills, come develop your understanding and enjoyment of the king of games. In addition to the thrill of the game, students of chess have been shown to gain improvement in test results in reading, science, and math, as well as growth in other cognitive skills. WEEK: 4 Inventing means curiosity, practicality, necessity, cooperating and dreaming! Join us on a historical journey with a hands-on approach learning about some of the worlds’ greatest inventors like Leonardo da Vinci, Tesla, Thomas Edison, and the Wright Brothers. We challenge campers to use their creativity to survive on a deserted island by designing devices to capture food and water, by building bridges, shelters and even a boat to make it off the island. We’ll imagine the future in space, focusing on creating inventions to protect space ships from damaging space rays and designing safety capsules for payloads returning from space. While Thomas Edison said “invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration;” this camp is 100% FUN! WEEK: 4 Flowers and minds can’t blossom without STEMs. This camp is specially designed for inquisitive pre-K or Kinder-“Gardeners.” Kids discover how to paint with wind, build a bug model, start their own garden and learn what nature needs to make their plants grow! WEEK: 10 We are rocket scientists, and you can be too! Blast to the top of the class with an in depth look at all things ROCKET! We will focus solely on rockets and the physics of rocket flight. After learning the model rocket safety code, campers will build different rockets and participate in the launching, mission control, propulsion, and recovery of the rockets they build. Campers will be divided into three groups: altitude trackers, launch preparation, and launchers. Every camper will have an opportunity to try all three. Camps not meeting the minimum enrollment two weeks prior to the start of camp will be cancelled and a full credit will be placed on your account. If you prefer a refund, you may request one.

Camper may be withdrawn up to 5 days prior to the start of camp for a refund minus a processing fee of up to $20 depending on method of payment. Requests less than 5 days prior to the start of camp are subject to approval by the Recreation Coordinator. Same day camp transfer requests will not be approved.

The Parks & Recreation department is proud to host our 4th Annual Summer Camp Fair! This is your time to find out about all the amazing programs offered through the summer with the City Of Orinda. Meet the summer day camp staff plus a variety of specialty camp instructors, and get all of your questions answered in person. Residents who sign up for programs listed in the Summer Camps Guide at the Fair will receive 10% off camp registration fees; materials fee not included.
