JESSICA YAGER

Executive Director New York University Furman Center Jessica Yager is the executive director at the New York University Furman Center. She has led the center’s policy work since 2012, first serving as policy director and then as deputy director. Prior to joining the center, Yager was the founding director of the Foreclosure Prevention Project at Queens Legal Services. She has also worked as a senior staff attorney at the Office of the Appellate Defender; a clinical teaching fellow at the Center for Social Justice at Seton Hall University School of Law; and as a law clerk to Judge Napoleon A. Jones Jr., with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. Yager received a law degree from New York University School of Law, where she was a Root-Tilden-Kern Public Interest Scholar, and received a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University.

MAGALIE D. AUSTIN

Chief Diversity and Industry Relations Officer New York City Department of Design & Construction Magalie D. Austin serves as the chief diversity and industry relations officer with the New York City Department of Design and Construction. Under her leadership, the Office of Diversity and Industry Relations creates and implements innovative solutions that increase contract opportunities for minority- and women-owned business enterprises with the agency. The office is also charged with monitoring vendor compliance with MWBE goals established on agency procurements. In her role, she also serves as the department’s liaison to industry groups, promoting the reputation of the agency through outreach efforts. Prior to joining the department, Austin served as a partner in The Austin Firm, which she co-founded, providing legal and consulting services to individuals and entities working on Haiti’s redevelopment after the earthquake in 2010. Austin has also served as the dean of admissions at the University of Illinois College of Law and headed the diversity program at the University of Illinois College of Engineering. Austin is a graduate of St. John’s University and Tulane University Law School.

BENJAMIN PROSKY

Executive Director American Institute of Architects New York Chapter Benjamin Prosky is the executive director of the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter and the Center for Architecture. With a background in urban studies and urban planning, Prosky has devoted his career to a range of projects and initiatives dedicated to the promotion and interpretation of architecture and the city. He first started working for the Institut français d’architecture in Paris, coordinating exhibitions and public programs. He then moved to the Canadian Center for Architecture, where he worked as head of public and university programs. Prosky worked for six years at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation as director of special events and external affairs. Prior to his current role, Prosky served for five years as assistant dean for communications at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where he oversaw exhibitions, publications, events and web content. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild and the Association of Architecture Organizations.

RENEE SACKS

Executive Director, Women Builders Council Inc.; President, Sacks Communications As executive director of the Women Builders Council, Renee Sacks advocates on behalf of small businesses while working to increase diversity and the role of women in the construction industry. She founded Sacks Communications in 1986 and over three decades built a reputation based on outreach, capacity development, community relations and strategic business development, focusing on equal opportunity in public-sector procurement and corporate diversity. Sacks is the publisher of Diversity Agenda, a publication credited with bringing together the nation’s top decision makers and advocates to change the conversation on diversity and its impact on the construction industry and beyond. Proudest Achievement: Creating a new national conversation about diversity through innovative programing for MWBEs and women in construction through the engagement of public, private and small-business stakeholders.


LOUIS J. COLETTI

President and CEO Building Trades Employers’ Association In his two decades as president of the largest contractor association in New York, Louis J. Coletti has led numerous initiatives geared toward increasing diversity in the construction industry. Coletti co-founded the Edward J. Malloy Initiative for Construction Skills, which trains New York City high school graduates through building trade union apprenticeship programs. He was appointed by Gov. George Pataki to the New York State Apprenticeship and Training Council and currently serves on the New York City Department of Education Advisory Council for Career and Technical Education and New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer’s Advisory Council on Economic Growth Through Diversity. Proudest Achievement: My proudest professional achievement is co-founding NYC Construction Skills, which opens the door for high school students to enter the construction industry and has been a catalyst for expanding diversity in the trade unions.

A professional engineer and expert in QA/QC and safety, Ahmad also oversees the company’s social responsibility initiatives, including its mentoring program for MWDBE firms. Ahmad has filled leadership roles on the boards of numerous professional organizations, including the New York Building Congress, the Concrete Industry Board, the Society of American Military Engineers, the American Society of Highway Engineers, the Construction Management Association of America-Metro New York/New Jersey Chapter and the South Asian American Association. Proudest Achievement: My proudest achievement is being given the opportunity to positively impact the lives of the growing HAKS family, and the clients and communities impacted by the projects we deliver every day.


NANCY E. ANDERSON Executive Director The Sallan Foundation

As executive director of The Sallan Foundation, Nancy E. Anderson has spent more than a decade developing sustainable solutions to urban energy needs. She has led numerous campaigns to advance green practices, including the establishment of new norms for high-performance building in New York. Anderson writes a regular column and organizes conferences and lectures on subjects core to the foundation’s mission. She recently was an advisor on the development of “Underwriting Efficiency: A Mortgage Lender’s Handbook for Realizing Energy and Water Efficiency Opportunities in Multifamily Housing.” Before joining Sallan, Anderson spent two decades in city government as an environmental advisor. Proudest Achievement: Developing power tools, primarily conferences and blogs, that are moving the high-performance building and urban sustainability agendas into the mainstream.

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corp. is a nonprofit that serves as the developer and property manager of the Brooklyn Navy Yard on behalf of the City of New York. Its mission is to advance economic vitality by creating and preserving quality jobs, connecting the local community with economic opportunity and resources and anchoring the city’s modern industrial sector. The historic 300-acre industrial park is now nationally recognized as a model for modern urban manufacturing ecosystems. OFER COHEN Founder and CEO TerraCRG

Ofer Cohen founded the commercial real estate firm TerraCRG in 2008 with the vision of catering to “the most exciting and robust sub-markets” in the United States. TerraCRG has been at the center of Brooklyn’s transformation, working through many transactions even as credit markets tightened during the Great Recession. Cohen is a board member of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and co-chairman of its Real Estate and Development Committee. He also sits on the board of directors of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, The Brooklyn Hospital Foundation and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership. Gural is a member of the board of directors of the Real Estate Board of New York, president of the enCourage Kids Foundation, chairman of the “I Have a Dream� Foundation of New York and a former chairman of the Times Square Alliance. Proudest Achievement: Surviving all of the various economic crises that have occurred over my 50-year career in real estate and to be able to take advantage of the positive direction our city has taken during this period and the significant increase in value of the properties we have acquired over that period.

Managing Director of External Affairs Two Trees Management Co. David Lombino is the managing director of external affairs at Two Trees Management Co., a New York-based real estate development firm known for its role in transforming the Brooklyn neighborhood of DUMBO. The firm’s real estate portfolio is worth more than $3 billion and includes the redevelopment of the Domino Sugar Factory site in Williamsburg, 300 Ashland, Mercedes House and the Wythe Hotel. Lombino oversees the firm’s philanthropic activities, including education and local civic initiatives. Prior to joining Two Trees, Lombino was the executive vice president for external affairs at the New York City Economic Development Corp. Proudest Achievement: Being part of an organization that does great work and delivers on its promises.

CHARLOTTE MATTHEWS Vice President for Sustainability Related Companies

Charlotte Matthews oversees sustainability initiatives for Related Companies, including the firm’s 2009 commitment to build exclusively green – Related has since completed more than 25 LEED Silver, Gold and Platinum certified developments. She also works extensively with the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, whose founding benefactor is Related Chairman Stephen Ross. Matthews has served on several city- and state-commissioned task forces, including the New York REV Market Design working group, the New York City Building Resiliency Task Force and the New York City Green Codes Task Force. She is a board member of IMT, a think tank on building efficiency. Proudest Achievement: Coming out of the financial crisis with LEED Gold

Born and raised in Flushing, Queens, Glen Oberwiler worked as an auto mechanic prior to starting Euro Design Contracting in 1997. In 2006, he renamed the company Raice Contracting Corp. in honor of his 6-year-old son. Over the last two decades, Raice Contracting Corp. has worked with organizations such as YMCA of Greater New York, Red Lobster and Brooks Brothers to renovate and revitalize their buildings. Oberwiler supports the YMCA of Greater New York in its annual Strong Kids Campaign, which helps ensure that New York City children have access to quality afterschool programs and summer camps. Nayan Parikh is the owner of Ashnu International Corp., an award-winning MWDBE construction and management provider to many federal, state and city agencies, including the New York City School Construction Authority and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. SETH D. ROSENBLUM CEO The Rosenblum Companies

As CEO of The Rosenblum Companies, one of the largest developers and full-service owner-operators of premier properties in New York’s Capitol region, Seth Rosenblum has presided over the expansion of the company’s development practice and its robust community outreach program, including the financial support of more than 30 regional nonprofits in areas such as emergency services and preparedness, disease research and prevention, child and family wellness, and arts and culture. Rosenblum has also promoted volunteerism within the company and leveraged its assets to benefit the community, such as by providing free warehouse space to food pantries. Proudest Achievement: An adaptive reuse project converting an auto dealership built circa 1928 in downtown Albany into 17 Chapel Boutique Condominiums; this project has been cited as a catalyst for that city’s urban housing renaissance.

Carlo A. Scissura is president and CEO of the New York Building Congress, an association representing the construction industry in New York City and its environs. In his previous role as president and CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Scissura saw membership grow by over 200 percent. Scissura has served as chief of staff to Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz as well as on the staffs of state Sen. Vincent Gentile and Assemblyman Peter Abbate. He has held numerous positions on local community boards and is currently president of the Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Brooklyn. VP of Strategic Programming and Philanthropy Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. As vice president of strategic programming and philanthropy for Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. Emily Sheridan oversees the development and execution of programming for the collaborative spaces at the Alexandria Center for Life Science in New York City, an urban campus for life science companies. She also works on Alexandria’s philanthropic program, providing support for medical research and other causes. Previously, Sheridan worked for City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte, California, where she raised funds to advance the development and delivery of novel therapies for patients fighting cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. Proudest Achievement: Partnering with Alexandria’s leadership team to raise over $8 million in just three months for the Navy SEAL Foundation.

SVP for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Turner Construction Co. After joining Turner Construction Co. in 1980, Karen Sweeney progressed through various office and field assignments to become the first woman to head a Turner office. She became vice president for diversity and inclusion in 2009 and was elevated to senior vice president for diversity, inclusion and community in 2014. Sweeney is responsible for Turner’s diversity, inclusion and community citizenship programs, collaborating with human resources on recruiting and career development activities and overseeing internal representation and culture initiatives, along with MWDBE representation and educational outreach across the organization. Proudest Achievement: Leading the effort to build a special projects division in Arlington, Virginia, from the ground up where Turner colleagues grew and realized their incredible potential while we sustained client and subcontractor relationships.

RUSSELL UNGER Executive Director Urban Green Council

In his 10 years as executive director of Urban Green Council, Russell Unger has developed and guided a host of innovative programs that have placed the organization at the forefront of environmental advocacy, education and research. Under his leadership, Urban Green has launched initiatives ranging from training for building operators to long-range city carbon projections. Unger previously spent five years on environmental, criminal justice and fire protection policy as counsel for the New York City Council and Mayor’s Office, drafting and implementing many environmental laws, including the city’s green building law (Local Law 86). Proudest Achievement: My proudest professional achievement was serving as chairman of the New York City Building Resiliency Task Force.
