OCEAN INDEPENDENCE X GIANGRASSO GROUP

This new partnership adds luster to the future of the high seas

What better way to feel like the king (or queen) of the world than to cruise the waters in style, comfort and control? Without a care in the world, you will soon be able to navigate Neptune’s realm effortlessly courtesy of the Giangrasso Group, with support from Ocean Independence.

The Giangrasso name is prominent in the Italian yachting industry. The company has established a stellar reputation as a reliable subcontractor for renowned shipyards over the past 17 years.

And now, the CEO and founder of Giangrasso Group, Bartolomeo Giangrasso, is eager to establish his company as an independent player in the market. A unique brand that consistently stands the test of all occasions and maritime conditions, it offers a product line of semi- and fully customized superyachts.

What makes this new venture exciting is the partnership with Ocean Independence, which will be a global sales agent for Giangrasso Group, with

the sale and construction of the first hull in the G24 classic series managed by Ocean Independence.

“There are some excellent references from very successful shipyards for the strategy that the Giangrasso Group is pursuing. At Ocean Independence, we are excited to be part of this and are firmly convinced that we can provide sustainable support in building the brand. The start has already been made with the sale of the first yacht,” says

Peter Hürzeler, CEO of Ocean Independence.

The Giangrasso Group’s own first model, currently under construction, is the G24 Classic.

Some features of the vessel:

• 23.99 metres long and 6.30 metres wide

• Made entirely out of aluminum

• Yacht design by Arrabito Naval Architects, interior design by Michela Reverberi

• A generous volume of 115 GT

• With its MAN V12 engines and ZF pods, can reach a maximum speed of 27 knots

• In cruising mode, at 23 knots, the tanks are

sufficient for about 300 nautical miles non-stop.

The yacht’s interior was designed as a familyfriendly world cruiser by Michela Reverberi. The renowned designer has created an interior for the G24 Classic using an elegant floral motif with a maritime touch that combines burgundy and light blue. “I thought about a very special orchid,” Reverberi says.

In the short to medium term the Giangrasso Group plans to build its portfolio in the size category their experience has shown to be most in demand by customers.

The G24 Classic will be celebrating its worldwide début at the 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival in September, where it will undoubtedly receive many deserved “oohs” and “ahhs.”

RACING INTO FORMULA ONE HISTORY

The move to Ferrari of the UK’s Lewis Hamilton, an earth-shattering switch for Formula 1, has cemented his truly legendary status

Sportswriters have always been overeager to label an athlete “a legend,” pinning an over-the-top descriptor onto someone who may have just had a brief success the very definition of recency bias. A one-season 20-win pitcher or someone who once scored 69 goals in an NHL season? A legend. Appeared in three Grand Slam tennis finals in seven months? Definitely a legend. Called a trick play to help his team win a Super Bowl? Where do we place the statue?

(That is actually the case in Philadelphia, where a statue to Eagles coach Doug Pederson was erected after he coached them to their first Super Bowl victory, in 2018. He and the team parted ways three years later, but the statue remains.)

Great stuff, but these are hardly the true sports legends of our time such as Pele, Muhammad Ali, Vince Lombardi, Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretzky. Another chair may soon be pulled up to that very small table for the U.K.’s Formula 1 titan Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton, who at seven titles is tied with another legend, Michael Schumacher, for the most Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship titles, is embarking on another phase of his legendary career after making the switch from the Mercedes team to join Ferrari in a multimillion-dollar deal said to be the biggest in Formula 1 history.

Hamilton is the most dominant motorsports driver of his generation, winning four straight world titles in a row between 2017 and 2020. Since his first F1 win at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal while racing for McLaren through his latest victory at the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix with Mercedes, Hamilton has amassed an incredible 105 career Formula 1 wins, far outstripping the previous career record of 91 held by Schumacher.

His longevity in one of the world’s most dangerous sports is also legendary. In fact, the 17 years from Hamilton’s first win in 2007 to his latest in 2024 is the longest stretch between first and last wins in motorsport history. He won his first of seven Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championships in 2008, and his move to Ferrari has come with a clear assignment: to return Ferrari to the top of motorsports once again; the famed Italian team will be seeking its first world title since 2008, coincidentally a year after his first win.

Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton was born 40 years ago in Stevenage, England, the son of an Afro-Grenadian father and white British mother, and as a mixed-race child he was subjected to racist abuse. When Hamilton was just six years old, his father bought him a go-kart for Christmas and promised to support his racing career as long as he worked hard in school. His parents had separated

PART OF ME HAS ALWAYS HELD ON TO THAT DREAM OF RACING IN RED. I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER TO REALIZE THAT DREAM TODAY ‘‘ ‘‘

when he was just two, and, after living with his mother until he was 12, he began living with his father, who sometimes worked up to four jobs while still attending his son’s races. Hamilton’s victories came early and often.

Hamilton is regarded as one of the most complete drivers on the grid and the best wetweather driver in the sport, with an aggressive driving style and an innate ability to adapt quickly to variances in the car set-up and to changing track conditions.

As Hamilton settles in with his new team, it is this style and ability that Team Ferrari hopes will return the brand to the top of world motorsports and Formula 1 dominance. It has been a steep learning curve for Hamilton since arriving at the

team’s Maranello headquarters at Via Enzo Ferrari 27 in late January 2025. At the Fiorano Circuit, within sight of the house from where the great Enzo Ferrari himself would watch his team at work, Hamilton met with the Ferrari engineers and technicians and began to learn the names and faces of the hundreds of his support team.

“There are some days that you know you’ll remember forever and today, my first as a Scuderia Ferrari HP driver, is one of those days,” said Hamilton, upon his arrival at the facility. “I’ve been lucky enough to have achieved things in my career I never thought possible, but part of me has always held on to that dream of racing in red. I couldn’t be happier to realize that dream today. I’m so excited to start this new era and to meet and work with a hugely talented and inspiring group of people. I’m dedicated to bringing everything I have to deliver for the team, the wider organization and the fans. Today, we start a new chapter in the history of this iconic team, and I can’t wait to see what story we will write together.”

It is a rarity in world sports when true legends change colours. Whether it was Lombardi departing the Green Bay Packers for the Washington Redskins, Jordan retiring from the Chicago Bulls and then suddenly popping up as a Washington Wizard three years later, or Gretzky’s shocking 1988 trade from the Edmonton Oilers to the Los Angeles Kings, which crushed Canada’s soul, the moves that legends make late in their careers have often been seismic in their impact.

The world will be watching as Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari begins another chapter in a truly legendary career.

Hamilton has won a joint-record seven Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship titles — tying him with Michael Schumacher — and he holds the records for the most wins, pole positions, and podium finishes, among others

SUNRISE OVER A FLORIDA SANCTUARY

A rare real estate opportunity has presented itself that provides the perfect embrace of luxury Florida oceanfront living

WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER | INTERVIEW BY MICHELLE ZERILLOSOSA

This home reflects design legend John Saladino’s philosophy of creating spaces that feel both intimate and eternal

Ofthe lower 48 United States only Florida is blessed with two distinct coastlines. On the western side of the peninsula residents and visitors can enjoy the golden-hour sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico, while the eastern coast, or “First Coast,” as locals know it, basks in the early morning sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean.

Dennis Alter has been enjoying those Florida sunrises for more than 40 years from his spectacular oceanfront estate in Pompano Beach. Now, at age 82, he has decided to downsize and has listed the property for sale at US $27.950 million, one of

the most attractive real estate listings currently available in the United States.

Alter will not miss the material presence of his beautiful estate because he retains the beautiful memories of those sunrises when his four children were quite young, when he’d watch with pride as they’d walk to the beach, each with a mug of hot chocolate, to watch the sunrise. His children are grown now with families of their own so the time is right to part ways with this treasured family compound. “The kids visit but not as often, and this is too big for one person,” Alter says emotionally.

“But it is perfect for a family.”

THE ELEGANT AND PRIVATE BESPOKE ESTATE LOCATED AT 1111 HILLSBORO MILE, POMPANO BEACH RIVALS THE GREAT VILLAS OF ITALYʼS

LAKE COMO

The elegant and private bespoke estate, located at 1111 Hillsboro Mile, Pompano Beach, sits on secluded acres overlooking both the Intercoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean and rivals the great villas of Lake Como in Italy. This is a reflection of its interior and architectural designer, the internationally renowned John Saladino.

Following his graduation from Yale School of Architecture, the American-born Saladino worked with Italian architect Piero Sartogo in Rome, and that Italian influence has stayed with him throughout his lengthy career. Saladino established the Saladino Group in New York City in 1972, and since then he has served as a board member for a number of influential organizations including the New York School of Interior Design and Save Venice Inc., as well as the Sir John Soane’s Museum Foundation in London. His design studio has completed numerous residential and corporate interior design projects around the world, most of which draw heavily on traditional European influences.

None perhaps more than the estate in Pompano Beach, which greets visitors with a tropical canopy that frames its long and meandering cobblestone drive to the its gracious blush-tone exterior. Saladino’s design combines rustic sophistication with his well-known preference for mixing both intimate and grand scales.

His Italian influences can be seen in his material selections, which include wood beams in the

ceilings that were hand-hewn with a hatchet, pewter clavos (nails) that stud the interior solid white-oak doors, plaster walls, reclaimed terracotta tile floors and an authentic Tejas Borja Centenaria Sand barrel-tile roof, which is accented by an antique kiln-dried cypress front door. Saladino’s grand scale is evidenced by the master bath, which is more like a salon, and is highlighted by a glorious solid Carrara marble Roman tub as well as a fireplace. The estate’s grand loggia is at a scale that embraces the ocean it faces and is the perfect oasis for entertaining in south-Florida style.

The home is surrounded by native vegetation and seems to fit seamlessly into its natural surroundings — one of the current owner’s favourite features of the property. “Too often you see homes that are too modern and constructed with steel and glass and are all white,” says Alter. “Although they are beautiful, they often look like they were transported from some other part of the world. This home, instead, looks like it belongs and fits into the space, the vegetation and the blue sky.”

The estate epitomizes everything that is treasured in elegant Florida oceanfront living. The house itself provides 9,855 square feet of living space and features eight bedrooms, including a separate second-floor apartment, along with nine bathrooms. Every main room provides expansive ocean views with large interior walls, perfect for the serious art collector.

The estate’s outdoor amenities include a twostorey oceanfront loggia, a 20’-by-40’ heated pool, a BBQ area with a fire-pit terrace ideal for outdoor entertaining, and a private walkway to a pristine Atlantic Ocean beach. There are also recreational spaces including a 30’-by-25’ sports court, as well as an oceanfront club/media room.

The location on Hillsboro Mile provided the perfect seclusion for Dennis Alter, a well-known financier and former CEO of Advanta, who took over the company from his father in 1971 when it had only 30 employees. With fewer than 40 homes in the neighbourhood, Hillsboro Mile is one of Florida’s most exclusive communities. It is a serene 3.2-mile barrier island with breathtaking ocean views and deepwater dockage. With its unmatched peaceful energy, Hillsboro Mile is the ultimate neighbourhood for luxury and rare oceanto-intercoastal living.

As Dennis Alter prepares to depart this area after so many years of creating family memories, he is secure in the knowledge that he is leaving behind an elegant, secluded, private luxury estate that can be enjoyed by another family, who can greet the sunrise over the ocean each morning while they begin to create their own special memories and wonder about the possibilities of what each day might bring.

Q: Who is the ideal buyer for this property?

A: The ideal buyer would be from the Northeast. However, California is another possibility — in fact, we are currently working with a buyer from southern California who appreciates the detail and craftsmanship that is a signature of John Saladino, who is nationally recognized in Architectural Digest as one of the top interior designers. Also, one of John Saladino’s personal properties was purchased by Ellen DeGeneres.

Q: What is one of the most striking features of this property?

A: The estate is sited on over an acre of manicured grounds that spans ocean to Intracoastal, with permitted dockage for a mega yacht, in a nowake zone with direct ocean access.

Q: What does your agency offer to potential buyers/sellers that is a plus, above other real estate firms?

A: We provide full concierge service that attends to every detail and need of an affluent buyer when purchasing a significant estate or ultra-luxury condominium, during and beyond the transaction. For sellers, we offer our expansive global network that results in $586 billion in annual sales. (Please see the link to our Peerless for more information: https://pepfla.com/pep-peerless/#1).

Q: How has the experience of working with Mr. Alter been?

A: It has been a pleasure personally working with Mr. Dennis Alter and his team, who have diligently addressed all our suggestions in preparation to market the estate.

Essenza Creative

Alejandro Puente (left) and Paloma Cardenas are artists who design moments that resonate deeply and deliver magic designed to last forever in the hearts and minds of their guests

Dynamic founders of Essenza Creative Agency, Alejandro Puente and Paloma Cardenas are dedicated to transforming every occasion into an unforgettable experience

Some of the best ideas are the ones that aren’t forced. A glimmer of the raw concept hits the mind like a lightning bolt, and one can’t help oneself from pursuing it with relentless ambition.

This was the case in the creation of Essenza Creative Agency. Founded in Mexico City in 2021 by Alejandro Puente and Paloma Cardenas, who had both pursued business degrees in Milan,

Italy, and bonded over their shared passion for design, storytelling and hospitality, Essenza Creative Agency has enabled the best friends to turn their lifelong love for hosting into a refined craft.

What started as a boutique marketing agency for emerging fashion brands executing small pop-up events and brand activations naturally evolved into highly curated artistic dinners, which

attracted new clientele like moths to a flame. What soon followed were requests for birthday parties, intimate celebrations, private dinners and lavish weddings. After the success of a pivotal private event coordinated for one such client, the two realized they were meant to produce extraordinary moments.

“After that, we said to each other, ‘This is our passion,’ so we literally closed down with

With Essenza Creative, every event begins as a canvas for transformation — bold, dynamic and a truly authentic representation of their clients’ desires

marketing, and it has not felt like work since we switched into event designing,” says Cardenas.

When Puente and Cardenas sat down with Dolce, their chemistry was palpable. It is clear that they are both perfectionists with an artistic eye, and that their working synergy is only enhanced by their mutual trust, quirkiness and creative approaches.

“It’s honestly a match made in heaven,” says Puente.

Whether it is a corporate event for a brand, a private party or a wedding, the two thrive off the distinctiveness and unique excitement each project brings. They refuse to water down their work by restricting themselves to a formulaic approach. Rather, their inspiration stems from their client’s wants, needs and even culture — they then translate those elements into the occasion’s festivities. This has been their defining feature as creative directors.

“What we do is a very emotional job. A lot of people dream about their weddings or events, and what we do is make those dreams come true. Our job is to make memories beautiful,” says Puente. “That’s the emotional connection. That’s what makes our event designing an art form.”

The trust their clients have in them serves as an indication of their devotion. The joys that come with their labour also come with a great

responsibility. Essenza Creative Agency has been relied on to coordinate some of the most significant moments in their clients’ lives, and they have consistently executed their clients’ vision at the highest level.

That is simply what has made Puente, Cardenas and the entire Essenza Creative team truly special. They adhere to the essence (essenza in Italian) of their client and never stray from that.

“Being true to yourself and being confident in the essence of who someone is or what a brand is [is] so important,” says Cardenas.

Puente adds, “For us, capturing the soul of our clients and having them become confident with their essence through the format of an event is what makes it special, memorable and successful.”

Though they acknowledge that nothing is set in stone regarding the future, Essenza Creative boasts a global reach, and the creative directors have travelled globally to meet their clients’ needs. They are undoubtedly positioned for success, with their sights firmly set on events within the fashion world!

When asked “What is the greatest life lesson you have learned since Essenza Creative’s inception?” They expressed that the small and underappreciated moments in life are just as special as the big ones.

CHARLES LECLERC PARTNERS WITH CHIVAS REGAL

Luxury Scotch whisky brand Chivas Regal has found an exciting new way to blend sports and creativity, announcing a multiyear global partnership with Charles Leclerc

AsChivas Regal’s new Global Brand Ambassador, Formula 1 star

Charles Leclerc will work with the brand to inspire fans to forge their paths to success, celebrating both personal achievement and creative expression along the way.

Leclerc’s involvement extends beyond racing — he is also a passionate self-taught pianist and composer. This appreciation for artistry and precision aligns perfectly with Chivas Regal’s philosophy, which values craftsmanship and dedication. While Chivas has long been known for its meticulous whisky-

blending, Leclerc’s commitment to music offers a unique complementary touch.

“Success is about blending all the right notes — on and off the track. My craft demands time, precision, and dedication, but what truly drives me is the journey, my passions, and the moments shared along the way. Chivas Regal embodies this same ethos, encouraging people to find their own rhythm and celebrate every win, big or small. I’m excited to redefine success together and share this experience with fans through our partnership,” says Leclerc.

To kick off the partnership, Leclerc and Chivas

Regal hosted an exclusive pop-up piano bar in Melbourne on March 11, 2025, ahead of the Formula 1 season opener later that week. Dubbed “Leclerc’s,” the event merged whisky with music for an unforgettable experience. VIPs and ecstatic fans enjoyed bespoke Chivas Regal cocktails inspired by Leclerc’s musical passion, all while immersing themselves in an evening of melody and craftsmanship. The event also featured a special appearance by Leclerc himself, offering attendees a rare chance to see the racing legend in a new light.

Nick Blacknell, Global Marketing Director for Chivas Regal at Chivas Brothers, says, “It’s no secret Charles has had incredible success in his life, but it is his tenacious spirit, commitment to excellence and off-track passions that inspired this partnership. The 88 notes of the piano draw perfect parallels with the 85-flavour notes of our iconic Chivas 18-year-old expression, showing how both music and whisky blend passion with precision. We’re excited to bring fans on the journey to celebrate our wins together the ethos that lies at the heart of Chivas Regal.”

Chivas Regal’s partnership with Leclerc marks a significant step in the brand’s ongoing expansion into the world of global sports. From Premier League football to Formula 1, Chivas continues to align itself with athletes who redefine success. An important takeaway from this collaboration is that success is not a destination but a journey — one that is marked by creativity, precision and passion.

HAMMOND:

Although he is best known for his multi-award-winning career as a real estate broker, that is truly superseded by his genuine candour, down-toearth leadership and humility. Through a casual conversation, you wouldn’t know that Jerry Hammond is a three-time winner of the “100 Top Luxury Real Estate Brokers of the World” award and winner of “Best International Real Estate Agent 2024” … or that he is recognized by a diverse network of high-net-worth and ultra-high-networth clientele, notable personalities and industry professionals both locally and internationally. He is a visionary leader in the luxury real estate industry, driven by passion and the relentless pursuit of excellence — embodying the precision and determination of a true champion. As a trusted authority, he is the go-to leader for insightful strategies, decisive direction, and the kind of refined expertise that defines success in high-end real estate. Time and time again, he steers those around him to success so that they can excel and thrive in the industry that has made his life passionately lived.

Q: What was it that pulled you into the luxury real-estate market? How did it all begin?

stand out. To stand out, there must be perceived value to the clients, which can be in the form of name recognition, the quality of your work, or the historical records that you keep setting over time, creating trust and recognition in the marketplace.

Q: What do you think is your defining feature?

A: When I decided to open Hammond International Properties, I asked myself one single pivotal question, “How can I build a company with an unwavering commitment to client satisfaction and excellence?” That was the initial question. At the time, I didn’t have all the answers. But over time

It unfolds when clients seek and expect discretion, integrity, professionalism, responsiveness and personalized service. We teach this in our in-house master class we have a full course that we share with our agents.

One of the other attributes that we feel is extremely important, especially in residential housing, is emotional engagement. Emotional engagement means that you show empathy and you show kindness to people and respect for what they’ve accomplished and how hard they’ve worked to get to where they are today. Their homes reflect the hard work that they put into their own lives.

A: I knew real estate was going to become my vocation long-term. I knew that it could be rewarding if I could, essentially, put quality to the test in the real estate industry, and the only way I could do that was with the luxury housing business. Because luxury houses take on a whole essence of their own through architecture and design and overall landscape and location. So it gave me a path, and that created the journey to move forward.

Q: What has been the greatest life lesson you’ve learned?

A: Well, I do know this: I think that the life lesson is to constantly challenge yourself and that there are new lessons to be learned every day. That happens with time and experience and meeting with different people. Through that experience, you gain knowledge, and you can adapt to changes in different circumstances.

Q: Can you recall some of those early challenges you faced in building your career in the market that you were involved in and in the city that you were situated?

A: There are over 70,000 agents in the GTA that service the market. Unfortunately, there are not enough sales to service that market. So we have to

I realized that it wasn’t about the size of the team. It was about hiring the right people. Our success is rooted in assembling a highly skilled, dedicated workforce, united by a shared commitment to excellence and guided by what we define as our ethical credo, the golden rule.

Q: What do you love most about your team?

A: Well, we meticulously handpicked our team. In most of the industry, if you have a license and you’re willing to work, they hire you for the sake of hiring. So, they’re not getting quality, they’re getting quantity. Our approach has helped shape our service culture into a defining feature and a sustainable competitive advantage, making it a significant barrier to entry for others.

As Hammond International Properties continues to expand, it remains clear that we set the gold standard in luxury real estate, continually redefining what exceptional service and client satisfaction look like in this competitive industry.

Q: What are some of the values you look for in someone who is being brought into the team?

A: One of the key service attributes is providing white-glove service. It’s our signature core value.

Q: Can you think of a defining moment in your career that shaped the brand and cemented it as what it’s known for today?

A: Actually, it has been an evolution. It didn’t happen overnight. However, I had to look outside the real estate industry to help define the company. And there were two primary focuses. The first was on the hospitalitybusiness sector and what made it so successful; and second, the luxury market and what defines it and who represents it in the market other services, other brands. And we looked at both and ultimately took the idea of combining the two and implementing that combination within the organization.

Q: What’s on the horizon?

A: Our aim and our goal is to consistently do what we’ve been doing for the last 10 years. And we constantly grow and excel. There’s always room for what we define as kaizen, which is a Japanese term meaning constant and never-ending improvement in everything that we’re doing. We try to keep up with technology and the trends that are currently happening out there and then adapt those into our everyday business practice.

Q: What do you love most about the work that you do?

A: Well, it gets me up early every morning! So I’m enthusiastic and it keeps me thinking. That motivates me to try to inspire others in the organization and from the people that we meet to strive for an enjoyable and positive life.

MYRIEL: THE HEART OF GRANDMA -CHIC CULINARY DELIGHTS

Chef Karyn Tomlinson shares thoughts about her childhood, creative instincts and authentic culinary experiences

Chef Karyn Tomlinson’s philosophy, culinary expertise, and respect for gastronomic and agricultural practices have earned her widespread recognition

WRITTEN BY ISHA SHARMA INTERVIEW BY MARC CASTALDO

Weoften recognize culinary expertise in terms of rich flavours and ingredients. However, have you ever thought how food plays a huge role in fostering bonds and celebrating distinct cultures? Chef Karyn Tomlinson’s journey reflects how cuisine can celebrate cultures in a delightful way.

She is the owner/operator of Myriel, a restaurant in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her culinary expertise has been recognized with features in The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal, among others. She recently became the 2025 James Beard Award semi-finalist in the “Best Chef Mid-West” category.

With creativity and warmth at the centre of her life, Chef Karyn’s experiences are a testament to how a well-curated meal and table can both make a difference. She recalled growing up in a hospitable home where her parents and grandparents always had people come over. Loving people and making them feel welcomed was the rhythm that guided her childhood.

An only child, she always had a sense of adventure and was happy to play by herself in the woods, often pretending to be cooking with leaves and berries. She also spoke about her grandmother’s famous pies and how she loved walking into the house filled with their aromas.

While she saw an environment where food was homegrown and hospitality was humble, she wasn’t particularly interested in cooking. As a child, she wanted to work either in international diplomacy or to make movies. With her streak of artistic creativity, she always wanted to do something that had cultural significance.

It was only when she started gardening and cooking that she realized first-hand the connection between growing vegetables, cooking and seeing the magic it brought, by helping people connect around the table. To explore this newfound interest, she went to cooking school in France for the classic culinary experience.

Her journey as a chef started in her late 20s. She reminisces how it was slightly unusual for women like her — that is, with no tattoos — to enter the kitchen scene. It took some time for her to develop her voice. Another chef once advised her to lean into her background story because people will respond to conviction and authenticity. She abides by this advice to stay authentic and creative. She is captivated by food’s history and its evolution, and by traditions that she grew up with that are a part of that story. She can trace common threads between the things she cares about, weaving them to create nostalgic traditions of her own.

Tomlinson explained how her restaurant’s

name was inspired by her favourite character in Victor Hugo’s novel Les Misérables, Bishop Myriel, who in the novel, welcomes the social outcast and former prisoner Jean Valjean into his house just as he is about to have dinner. Rather than dismissing him, Myriel invites Valjean to join him and sets the table with the most elegant silver settings. Valjean’s life begins to change as a result of this kindness. She also wanted her restaurant to celebrate her growing relationship with local farmers.

Reflecting on the factors that make Myriel stand out from the rest, she said, “There is a sense of warmth and nurture both in our style of service and food. There is a respectful excellence that resonates with different cultures on a global level. We have a tasting menu of 13 courses. We are using humble ingredients, skill and time and thought to make food as delicious as possible.”

As for her plans for the future, she shared that some creative projects are in the works and that she has done consulting and creative coaching

Chef Tomlinson’s kitchen at Myriel reimagines classic dishes by adding a modern, sustainable twist that will make anyone fall in love with the flavours

with restaurants, helping them to use more ingredients from local farms. She is also focusing on optimizing her systems and keeping her staff happy.

She has a strong connection with farmers and the entire agricultural process. She recognizes the power of connecting to where our food comes from. She beautifully noted how eating a carrot grown at one’s own farm is a totally distinct experience compared to taking it out of a bag at a grocery store. More than anything, it is a celebration of people who work tirelessly to grow fresh vegetables while at the mercy of many factors including weather, markets and legislation. And, she added, “We are prone to value food more, waste less and enjoy it when we recognize where it comes from.”

When asked about her dolce vita, she said that she valued how special it was to have connections with people around the table that lead to real conversations and relationships. For her, to partake in and facilitate that for more people is her secret to a sweet life. Amid the noises that surround us, she values the significance of the simple things in life such as feeling a breeze during harvest and whole-heartedly enjoying with others the fruits of your labour.

Guests seated mere steps from the stage had indulged beforehand in an exquisitely curated tasting menu designed by Canoe’s Executive Chef Ron McKinlay in celebration of that restaurant’s milestone 30th anniversary.

“I am so honoured and excited for The ICONS Series to come to life, especially in a setting as spectacular as Elora,” says Kat Florence. “Every detail, from the hand-selected talent to the intimate venue, has been designed to create something truly immersive and unforgettable.”

More than just a talent showcase, The ICONS Series reflects Florence’s deep-rooted passion for preserving beauty and artistry. Just as she transforms some of the world’s rarest gemstones into heirloom-worthy pieces, she is now crafting experiences that elevate the senses, blending music, fine dining and historic architecture into a singular expression of luxury.

Sandra Ainsley highlights one of the most prominent glass artists of our time, an in uential source for many glass artists in the Czech Republic and Slovakia

Q: Your biography is ready-made material for a film. You were born in communist Bulgaria and at the age of 27, escaped with your wife to the United States, where you live and create to this day. What happened that made you make such a difficult decision?

A: Yes, I have [had a] very interesting life so far. You are right that it could be material for a film or book. There were three factors that made me leave Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia:

First was that when I graduated from the Academy of Art[s, Architecture] and Design in Prague, my passport expired, and I had to return to Bulgaria. I was told that I had to work for three years in a glass factory as a designer of glassware, far away from Sofia, where I was born and lived. I got a one-year extension for the passport, and this is when I knew we had to escape. There was no way for me to live in Prague after the passport expires.

REBECCA AL LAHIQ

Fine Art Practice Leader Canada

Q: Does the value of the collection influence the type of insurance coverage you offer to the client?

A: The value of collections can fluctuate, depending on what’s being collected. We assess each collection individually. At Great American Insurance Company –Canadian Branch (GAIC), our fine art policies are bespoke and speak to the needs of the collector. Some collectors are really savvy about market fluctuations, others less so, and we look at these factors to determine the coverage that would be most suitable. Other companies may have blanket requirements for appraisals over a certain value, but for us, it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. For example, appraising English furniture from the 1800s every 4-5 years is futile, whereas contemporary collectors might require values to be looked at more frequently. If our clients require assistance with finding a suitable appraiser, we have a network of experts we work with. We accept appraisals from accredited appraisers, as well as valuations from galleries the collector works with (which are often provided free of charge!). At the end of the day, our fine art policies are customized based on the needs of the collector.

Q: How crucial is it to forge relationships with the art community?

A: So crucial! These relationships keep us pinned to what’s going on in the marketplace. The art community in Canada is small. Everyone knows everyone and art insurers are important participants in this community. Art has both cultural and financial value. Protecting the financial value allows the cultural side to flourish. We operate as a boutique company, and our passion for this space sets us apart.

Q: How do you help protect both art collectors and artists?

A: At GAIC, our line of work is indeed niche, and we’re not just protecting art pieces but also the artists behind them. In a claim, we work closely with our clients and artists to do our best to ensure everyone is satisfied with the resolution. It’s never a one-size-fits-all approach. We respect the relationships between all players in the industry and work toward a common goal: to protect our clients’ collections.

[So] I could not live [there] and be creative if I have no freedom.

Q: At what point in your life did you discover glass or did glass discover you?

A: When I was at the academy in Sofia the first year [there] were posted few opportunities to study abroad as an exchange student in other socialist countries. One of them was in Prague and translated wrongly as “Packaging Glass.” I applied and was chosen because nobody wanted to study that. I landed in the atelier of Professor [Stanislav] Libenský without having the slightest idea.

For me, the most important characteristics of

the glass is the transparency and translucency that I could use the light in my sculptures.

Q: When you start working on a new sculpture, do you have a specific image of it, or does the project evolve as you work?

A: I always start with a blank sheet of paper and start drawing. It’s a process that could take a few hours or few days until the right image appears.

Q: What does your creative process look like? Which of its stages is the most difficult, and which is the most interesting?

A: I always listen to music during my drawing times. Sometimes you can see or feel the music in my work.

The most difficult stage is the finishing work — grinding and polishing — which is the most timeconsuming.

The most interesting and rewarding stage is when the sculpture is finished and washed, ready to be titled. I always title the sculpture with one word describing the feeling of the dynamic of the sculpture.

EMBRACING GLOBAL HYBRID COLLABORATIONS

The ROM proudly hosted CoLab, an invite-only event featuring a groundbreaking panel discussion with some of the design world’s leaders

Toronto is a city with rich cultural diversity, embodying the thriving spirit of collaboration and creativity and making it the perfect host for any artistic event. This past February, Toronto’s iconic Royal Ontario Museum, known for merging history with modernity, served as the ideal venue for the exclusive CoLab: A Deep-Dive on Hybrid Collaborations. The event featured a masterclass panel discussion with Pionova founder and principal Nima Ahmadi, Urbanscape Architects founder and principal Ali Malek and ARRCC director Jon Case.

Dolce had the privilege of sitting down with each of these individuals to explore cross-cultural themes, how to think globally while designing locally, as well as the role of architecture and design in today’s interconnected world.

With expertise spanning the full architectural production spectrum, Ahmadi navigates projects from design concept to construction administration with precision and confidence

Q: CoLab: A Deep-Dive on Hybrid Collaborations is all about collaboration across disciplines. What does this event mean to you as a designer and innovator?

A: CoLab is a much-needed pause in the fastpaced world of design — an opportunity to reflect,

celebrate the creative process and acknowledge the relationships that have brought us to this point. The journey is far more important than the destination, and every detail we design or refine has a profound impact across disciplines. This event serves as a moment to step back,

Pionova Founder and Principal Nima Ahmadi

Malek’s design philosophy emphasizes sophisticated simplicity and minimal elements, prioritizing a human-centred approach, but within that scope his versatility as an architect is always reflected in his projects

detach from the immediate demands of a project and share our international collaboration with a broader audience. Seeking fresh perspectives and feedback not only enhances the outcome but also reminds us to be fully present in the moment. CoLab reminds us to appreciate the significance of each step, ensuring that we realize our vision to its fullest potential.

Q: A new classified project is bringing together top-tier creatives from various fields. How has working with Jon Case and Ali Malek influenced your approach to this project?

A: One thing that stands out in this collaboration is the level of expertise each team member brings to the table. Jon Case and Ali Malek are both visionary architects who deeply understand their craft, and their ability to imagine future spaces is truly inspiring.

When we come together — often in dynamic, free-flowing Zoom sessions — the energy is all about pushing boundaries and realizing our best work at this moment in time. Their forwardthinking approach challenges us to not only grasp their ideas but also translate them into reality with precision and innovation. This exchange of creativity and expertise has been invaluable in shaping the project and elevating our collective vision.

Q: The details are still under wraps, but what do you hope this project will achieve in terms of design innovation and future collaborations?

A: In terms of innovation, this project is setting new trends and standards that will shape the industry for years to come. It’s not just about pushing creative boundaries, it’s about redefining what’s possible and opening the door to new opportunities for collaboration.

I truly believe this partnership will take our relationship to new heights, marking the beginning of something truly significant. I can already envision our firm welcoming ARRCC and [its] sister company, SAOTA, to Toronto to create a one-of-a-kind architectural masterpiece. This project is just the start of an exciting journey, and I can’t wait to see where it leads.

sparks creativity. Each element, from the smallest details to large-scale features, should be part of an experience that fosters community and growth.

Q: CoLab: A Deep-Dive on Hybrid Collaborations brings together some of the industry’s best minds. What does this event represent for you as an architect?

Q: What inspires your approach to designing dynamic city spaces?

A: When thinking about dynamic city spaces, the inspiration often stems from observing how people interact with their surroundings. I love exploring the delicate balance between nature, technology and human behaviour. For me, the goal is to design spaces that feel organic — ones that encourage both connection and exploration.

Ultimately, I think dynamic city spaces should feel like extensions of people’s lives, whether it’s a park that invites conversation or a plaza that

A: As an architect, I see events like CoLab, as catalysts for growth — both personally and professionally. It’s a chance to engage in conversations that expand my understanding of the industry, hear from thought leaders and share experiences with peers who are facing similar challenges. The cross-disciplinary exchange that happens at these events is something I value deeply because it keeps me grounded in the reality of what’s happening in the world and how we can use design to address global issues — whether that’s sustainability, social equity or new technologies.

Overall, it’s an event that reminds me of the power of collaboration and how, as architects, we’re all part of a larger movement to shape the future of cities and communities. It encourages me to remain curious, push the limits of creativity, and work towards designs that not only function well but truly make a positive impact on the people and places they serve.

Urbanscape Architects Founder and Principal Ali Malek

During Case’s 19-year career with ARRCC, he has worked on a wide range of award-winning projects, from private residences to the restaurant and hospitality sector

Q: Without revealing too much, how do you see this project redefining the relationship between architecture and interior design?

A: While I can’t get into specifics, I can say that this project is truly about blurring the lines between architecture and interior design in a way that creates a seamless experience for those who will interact with the space. Traditionally, architecture and interior design have been treated as distinct disciplines, with architecture focusing on the building’s form and structure and interior design concentrating on the spaces within. But this project is all about challenging that separation and rethinking how the two can work in tandem rather than in isolation.

By merging architecture and interior design more intentionally, the space will feel unified, with both the structure and the interior experience enhancing one another. The goal is to create a space where the boundaries between the two are not just softened but also integrated, resulting in an environment that feels both cohesive and dynamic. The way architecture and interior design interact in this project will redefine how we think about spatial experiences — creating something that’s not just beautiful but deeply immersive and functional.

Q: What are the key influences that inspire your creative vision?

A: My creative vision is deeply inspired by art, travel and the natural world. I find inspiration in the work of iconic architects like John Lautner and Kengo Kuma, whose processes and ability to create

beautiful objects with narrative and life resonate with me. Travel is essential; it exposes me to different cultures and artistry, contributing to the richness of my designs. I also draw from the raw, primal beauty of nature, which we often interpret through organic forms, raw materials and sensory experiences in our projects. My approach is to transform a client’s brief and location into a design that surpasses expectations while staying true to ARRCC’s signature contemporary style, which blends minimalism, organic forms and layered luxury.

Q: Was there a personal life experience or challenge that shaped your approach to interior design?

A: Competition in this industry is fi erce. ARRCC’s journey from humble beginnings in a world brimming with talent was marked by steep challenges and obstacles in breaking into the international market. Yet our vision and relentless drive to seek better opportunities made us realize that being the underdog often fueled our ambition, pushing us to take risks and step onto the world stage. That hunger still drives us today. We remain

deeply dedicated to our craft and will always push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Q: CoLab is centred around collaboration and innovation. What does this event mean to you, both professionally and creatively?

A: In today’s fast-evolving world, where technology is advancing rapidly and AI is reshaping the creative landscape, many creatives are seeking connection and purpose in a postCOVID industry. Collaboration between creative minds offers a way to break the cycle; it’s an explorative journey that fosters growth. At our core, we are human beings who crave connection, and engaging with other creatives opens a world of possibilities. Not only does collaboration bring fresh perspectives to your work, but it also invites innovation into your process. Seeing how different creatives approach the same project allows you to reimagine your own work while shaping others’ perceptions, ultimately leading to a shared, collective vision.

ORLANDO DIAZ-AZCUY FOR LE GRACIEUX

The ORLANDO collection combines hand-dyeing and hand-printing techniques on environmentally sustainable flax linen, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation for a refined esthetic

A long-awaited collection emerges from a cohesive vision that imparts beauty and colour to the soul, details to the eyes and texture to the touch
WRITTEN BY MARC CASTALDO

Afabric collection, at first, can seem a bit odd to the uninitiated. But the moment you grasp that there are an infinite number of inspiring fabrics that can be created using different materials, colours, designs and weaves, you realize that fabric design should be held in the same high regard as art forms such as painting, architecture and dance — the common thread in each form of expression is to draw out an emotional response, and that’s exactly what the newest fabric collection by le gracieux and legendary designer Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, founder and consultant to the San Francisco–based design firm ODADA (Orlando Diaz-Azcuy Design Associates), deliver.

The ORLANDO collection is grounded in intelligent pragmatism and quiet elegance. The world of interior architecture and furniture design welcomed this long-awaited collection with open arms.

It embodies Diaz-Azcuy’s philosophy of timeless, intelligent design that merges structure with the organic beauty of nature. Featuring eight hand-drawn patterns — Barcelona, Bloom, Canal, Feather, Orchid, Palm, Rain and Islas, which are all available in Wild Indigo — the collection reflects Diaz-Azcuy’s belief that great design transcends trends. Each of his hand-drawn expressions moves the needle beyond any trend, providing foundational elements to give life to his ideas.

Diaz-Azcuy’s prolific career spans over 50 years and, for him, the creative adventure never stops. He began his design education in architecture, landscape architecture and planning. However, his creativity really flourished with the guidance of Lawrence Halprin and Arthur Gensler and others, culminating in his being awarded some of the design world’s highest honours, rarely bestowed upon a single person: INTERIORS Magazine’s Designer of the Year, Interior Design magazine’s Hall of Fame, California Icon of Design and two honorary doctorates.

“My goal during these 50-something years has always been to break the pattern, to reflect the client, to try to solve things differently — not necessarily radically, not necessarily futuristic. It does not take much,” says Diaz-Azcuy.

JOHNNIE WALKER CRAFTING NEW LUXURY WHISKY

The world ’s leading Scotch Whisky announces the global launch of Johnnie Walker Vault, uniting bespoke blends, collaborations with cultural icons and luxurious experiences

Ahistoric brand always has an intriguing backstory of how it came to be.

Mind you, most stories are at risk of embellishment by passionate storytellers. However, when it comes to the story of Johnnie Walker, what you hear about the brand, what you see on the shelves and what the flavour profile promises are all genuine.

The brand is named after John Walker, a grocer from Kilmarnock, Scotland, who started blending whiskies in 1820 because he was frustrated and dissatisfied with inconsistent

single malts. His goal was simple: to create a consistent-quality product. But of course, as the company honed its craft, the quality of its whisky became elevated to heights that exceeded all expectations.

By the time John passed away in 1857, Johnnie Walker was in great demand, and the foundations of the business were well-established. His son, Alexander “Alec” Walker, took the reins and would become a crucial figure in the family business history, taking the brand to international heights. What were some of his notable contributions?

Dr. Emma Walker curated rare whiskies inside the Johnnie Walker Vault, offering an invitation-only bespoke blending experience with luxury packages starting at £50,000 and leaving a lasting legacy with each unique blend

The iconic square bottle was designed by Alec to prevent breakages during shipping and allow more bottles to be packed in each shipment. And Alec’s natural business acumen is credited as pivotal to the availability of Johnnie Walker whisky in over 180 countries, for those who seek exceptional flavour and quality above all else.

BENEATH THE SURFACE OF LUXURY ART

In the world of high art and luxury, where rarity is measured in visuals of polished perfection, Canadian artist and collector Abraham Reyes seeks to rede ne the essence of value

For his new luxury art collection and début solo exhibition Beneath the Surface, Abraham Reyes transforms rare treasures like natural wild pearls, gemstones and antiquities into breathtaking, large-scale works of art.

Held at Avant Garde in Toronto, the exhibition unveils pieces that blend history, cultural identity and opulence. But Beneath the Surface is more than just a visual indulgence; it is a deeply personal reflection of Reyes’ journey, his Filipino heritage and his lifelong relationship with rare objects. “Instead of using the traditional paint on canvas, I used what was given to me, which is the gems, the antiquities to create the pieces,” Reyes explains. The result? What he calls “jewelry for the walls.”

Reyes, owner of the Giga Pearl — the world’s largest authenticated natural pearl — has spent

years studying the essence of rarity. His fascination with gems and antiquities was cultivated in childhood under the guidance of his godmother, a passionate collector.

Are diamonds or gold really rare? Reyes asks, challenging mainstream ideas of luxury. “Because when you find a vein in the mines, OK, you find gold. You know where the end is going to be — a bigger volume of gold, yes. But, unlike gold, a pearl — a wild one — when you look down to the water, can you guess where the pearl is? No.”

It is this belief in the unseen beauty of nature that informs his work. Each pearl, each gemstone in Beneath the Surface carries its own history, shaped by time and the unpredictable forces of the natural world. For Reyes, true rarity is not about artificial perfection but the unique stories etched within these materials. “Because inside the gem, for example, even the surface of the pearl, the natural ones, the true natural ones will have their own characteristics. So, each one is like a universe within itself.”

The opening night of Beneath the Surface was as much a personal milestone for Reyes as it was a public unveiling. After five years of meticulous work and six months of preparation, the exhibition faced an unexpected challenge — a major snowstorm. Yet nearly 200 guests braved the elements, drawn not just by the promise of luxury but by the chance to experience something truly unique.

“Witnessing the genuine reaction of the people, that was something very special to me,” explains

about rarity and value

Reyes, when reflecting on the opening of his exhibition. “For them to see the art, it’s something that I’ve worked hard on. And for them, they can’t lie when they’re standing right in front of you.”

Reyes’ art is deeply personal, a reflection of his identity and lived experiences. His memories of the Philippines are woven into every piece, tributes to the traditions and craftsmanship of his homeland.

“I’m very proud to be Canadian and to represent Canada in the Philippines at this level of art,” he shares. “Canada is my home, and I believe in our value, which comes from being multicultural.”

While his pieces are undeniably opulent — some featuring up to 6,000 carats of gemstones — Reyes is not driven by extravagance alone. At the heart of Beneath the Surface is an educational mission.

“Educating people, I think, is what drives me. I want them to learn about these kinds of natural wonders and what is really, truly rare as opposed to what we’ve been conditioned to perceive as valuable.” His work challenges collectors and art enthusiasts to look beyond polished surfaces and discover the deeper, more meaningful beauty that lies beneath.

With Beneath the Surface, Reyes has not only created art, he has sparked a conversation about rarity, heritage and the hidden stories of nature. In doing so, he invites the world to see luxury through a new lens — one where true beauty is not simply displayed, but also deeply understood.

TINA TEHRANCHIAN’S JOURNEY: RESILIENCE, SUCCESS AND LEGACY

Explore the lessons learned and the battles fought by Tina Tehranchian, who has recently been appointed to the Order of Canada

Tina Tehranchian’s career is a master class in resilience and reinvention. When she received the call from the Governor General’s office informing her of her appointment to the Order of Canada, she was in a meeting. Her assistant assumed it was a prank and told them to call back at 10:30 a.m. When the phone rang again, precisely on time, Tehranchian picked up.

The weight of the moment hit her instantly. She had won many awards throughout her career, but this was different. “It meant the world to me,” she says. She recognized the profound significance of the moment when her son, who seldom boasted about her achievements, proudly announced the news on LinkedIn.

Born and raised in Iran, she was a prodigy, graduating from high school at 15 and earning a coveted spot at Tehran University’s medical school. But her father had other plans, urging her to study in the United States. So she enrolled in pre-med at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, only to realize that medicine was not for her she couldn’t stand the sight of blood. Pivoting to political science and commerce, she

later earned a master’s in communications from the University of Portland at just 20 years old.

At 29, she and her husband moved to Canada with their young son, eager to build a future in their new home. But the timing could not have been worse. The country was in a deep recession, and, despite her credentials, opportunities were scarce. The CBC and communications companies were laying off thousands of employees, and, without Canadian experience, finding a job proved impossible.

A newspaper ad promising a career with unlimited income potential caught her eye. She applied, thinking it would be temporary. Instead, she found her calling.

Tehranchian built her career from the ground up, earning every professional designation she could. Today, as a CFP® professional and Senior Wealth Advisor at Assante Capital Management Ltd., she is known for her deep expertise and the long-term relationships she cultivates. Some of her clients have been with her since the beginning, and she now advises their children, ensuring seamless intergenerational wealth transfer.

Her passion for financial security stems from

her upbringing. Her father, a hematologist, and her mother, a nurse midwife, instilled in her the values of hard work and financial discipline. “Money was never an issue, but saving and planning for the future were everything,” she recalls.

That lesson became painfully clear when she and her husband lost everything. Shortly after arriving in Canada, they had invested their savings in a real estate project recommended by a well-respected CPA. The project went bankrupt, wiping out everything they had.

“That experience shaped how I advise my clients today,” she says. “Understanding risk is everything. Markets fluctuate, but if you make decisions out of fear, you lose.”

The financial industry remains maledominated, with only 20 per cent of advisers being women. But Tehranchian never saw that as a barrier. “I never thought of myself as a female adviser. I was just an adviser,” she says.

She credits her parents for instilling that mindset. Growing up in a country where women had few rights, she was never told she could not achieve something. “My parents raised my

Tehranchian has received many accolades for her professional and philanthropic work, including being named one of Wealth Professional’s Top 50 Leading Women in Wealth (2023), and winning both Women in Finance Canada’s Financial Adviser of the Year award (2019) and the International Alliance for Women’s World of Difference Award (2019)

Tehranchian credits her parents for raising her and her sister to believe that obstacles, much like fears, are all in your mind, and that remaining focused and positive will keep success within reach

sister and me to believe we could do anything,” she says.

That confidence allowed her to navigate an industry that many women hesitate to enter. “The early years are tough, especially for young women,” she says. “But the first battle is in your own mind. If you see barriers, you will find them. If you do not, you will not.”

For Tehranchian, success is about impact. “Power is the ability to create a positive impact.

If you are not using it to help others, you are wasting it.”

That belief fuels her philanthropic work. “If I can inspire others to give back, then I have done something worthwhile.”

Her commitment to giving back is not just about financial contributions but about using her influence to create opportunities for others. Whether through mentorship, charitable initiatives or community engagement, she

believes real success is measured by impact.

As for retirement, she has no plans to slow down. “I love what I do. I thrive on it,” she says. “If you love what you do, it is not work. It is life.”

For Tehranchian, la dolce vita is not about leisure, it is about purpose. “I am living my sweet life right now,” she says. “Doing work I love, making an impact and leaving a legacy that matters.”

Dolce sets off for Miami to meet Denis Anderson, owner of Watersports Car, to discover the exhilarating experience his customers enjoy while navigating the waters
WRITTEN

Itcan be hard to stand out in the world of high-end recreational watercraft in which bling-y superyachts, jetpowered surfboards and speedy hydrofoil jets all compete for attention among thrill-seeking luxury enthusiasts. Yet Denis Anderson is doing so with ease.

As the founder and CEO of Watersports Car, Anderson has turned an ambitious idea into a global sensation. His Miami-based company is the only U.S. manufacturer of these luxury vehicles — sports-car-styled speedboats that race across the water with the precision of a jet ski and the comfort and control of a high-performance automobile. A blend of innovation, engineering and no small amount of flash, a Watersports Car is not just a toy for the elite but a statement of style, design and high-octane adventure.

Anderson’s journey to creating the Watersports Car is rooted in his lifelong passion for automobiles and luxury. Originally from Germany, he spent years customizing high-end cars for wealthy clients worldwide. His attention to detail and love for exclusivity led him to an unusual question: what if a car could drive on water?

“I love cars, and to be honest, I’ve seen [these kinds of water] cars online, so I didn’t invent the concept. But I tested them, and none were what I consider high-quality. That’s why, for me, it was clear that I wanted quality and improvement to be at the heart of everything we do in this business,” Anderson explains.

This desire for quality and precision quickly set Watersports Car apart from the competition. Unlike earlier amphibious-vehicle concepts, Anderson’s creation didn’t just function on water — it was designed to perform like a true sports car.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Watersports Car is how closely it mimics the sensation of driving on land. Unlike boats, which require a shifter, these vehicles operate with a gas pedal, just like a car, and a reverse pedal. The steering is designed to offer the same level of control as a high-end sports car, giving drivers a sense of familiarity despite the change in conditions.

“Most importantly for me was that it really feels like a car. So, you have two gas pedals for acceleration and reverse, the steering — when you go at the highest speed — it really feels like a race car. You can stop on a dime,” Anderson says.

With speeds reaching up to 68 miles (almost 110 kilometres) per hour, the Watersports Car delivers an exhilarating experience. Whether carving through waves or cruising at sunset, it provides an unmatched blend of speed, power and luxury.

Creating such a groundbreaking product was not without obstacles. Unlike land vehicles, which move on a predictable surface, water is constantly shifting, presenting unique engineering challenges and potential safety concerns.

“Our biggest challenge was to get it to a quality and safety level where I feel comfortable selling it to the public because we are literally selling worldwide,” Anderson shares.

Early prototypes experienced issues including oversteering and uneven handling, but through rigorous testing and redesigns Anderson’s team perfected the balance, ensuring stability and control at high speeds. One of the key improvements was extending the tunnel in the back of the car, which reduced unnecessary movement and allowed for smoother turns.

Despite its thrilling nature, safety remains the top priority for Watersports Car. Anderson insists that no compromise is made when it comes to ensuring the security of drivers and passengers.

“The water lets you know if something is right or wrong. It is not to be played with, so we take it very seriously. That’s why everything is fully U.S.Coast-Guard-certified. These cars, they’re full of foam — you can cut it literally in four pieces, and it’s not going to sink.”

This dedication to safety means that every vehicle undergoes extensive testing to meet strict regulations. Watersports Car works closely with approved testing companies to ensure compliance with all U.S. Coast Guard safety standards. In one extreme test, the vehicles were intentionally submerged for 24 hours to confirm their unsinkable design.

Based in Miami, Florida, Denis Anderson and his team design, build, test, customize, distribute and sell WaterSports cars directly to individuals and businesses throughout the United States and internationally
Luxury and adventure merge seamlessly in any Watersports Car Series model
THE GOOD LIFE IS ALL ABOUT FREEDOM — SO YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU LIKE. FAMILY, LOCATION, HAPPINESS … LIFE IS TOO SHORT. LET’S ENJOY IT. THAT’S WHAT WE HELP PEOPLE DO HERE ‘‘ ‘‘

Watersports Cars are not just a novelty; they have captured the attention of luxury enthusiasts, yacht-owners and adventure-seekers worldwide. Their eye-catching design and unparalleled performance make them a natural fit for the superyacht industry. Owners can take their Watersports Cars from ship to shore with ease, adding an exciting new element to marine exploration.

“If you don’t want to be seen, this product is not for you. These cars, on and off the water, cause so much attention. People from everywhere — young, old, female, male — they come up to you and ask what that is,” says Anderson.

The brand has successfully expanded beyond the United States, delivering vehicles to far-off places like Singapore, Indonesia, the Caribbean and Australia. The demand continues to grow, solidifying Watersports Car as a premier name in luxury watercraft.

And Anderson is not stopping with his current success. He has ambitious plans to take Watersports Car to new heights through strategic collaborations and an expanded global presence.

“We have something big coming up. We are going to join forces with a very well-known big brand. So these cars will be officially powered by that brand. I can’t say it right now, but it’s in the works,” says Anderson.

Additionally, Watersports Car is expanding its lineup. The latest model, the Series G, is the largest in the fleet, seating up to six passengers, with a convertible roof and luxury features like a built-in refrigerator. With over 50 pre-orders already secured, the demand for these innovative vehicles is clear.

For Anderson, success is not just about selling luxury vehicles — it’s about creating experiences that bring joy and excitement. His passion for quality, adventure and innovation is evident in

every Watersports Car he brings to market. More than just a vehicle, it represents freedom, luxury and a fun new way to enjoy the open water.

“The good life is all about freedom — so you can do what you like. Family, location, happiness … life is too short. Let’s enjoy it. That’s what we help people do here,” says Anderson.

He didn’t just create a new watercraft — he redefined an entire category. With the precision of a luxury sports car and the thrill of high-speed water racing, Watersports Car is more than a vehicle; it’s an experience.

From Miami to Singapore, it’s making waves in the world of high-end adventure. And with ambitious collaborations on the horizon, Anderson is driving the future of luxury straight into uncharted waters.

AMONG THE LEAGUE OF THE TRULY EXTRAORDINARY

RE/MAX Integra Co-Founder and owner and operator of RE/MAX Europe, Walter Schneider’s appointment to the Order of Canada honours a legendary business career

History is, thankfully, full of business success stories of men and women who have achieved professional milestones worthy of any business Hall of Fame. It is a long list of noteworthy achievements for which we should all be very grateful as business success creates jobs and opportunities.

A much shorter list in business history is of those rare individuals who, in retrospect, actually changed the way their professional field operated, true innovators who took a new approach to an existing industry and made it succeed with a methodology that remains in place today.

Walter Schneider is just such a trail-blazing pioneer, a man who changed the way the real estate industry operated in Canada and, this last December in recognition of this achievement, he was granted the nation’s highest civilian honour and named a Member of the Order of Canada, one of only 87 Members named in 2024.

“It was emotional,” said Schneider, recalling how he was informed of the honour in a recent interview with Dolce. “I was driving in my car and a number came up on my phone with an Ottawa area code. I know a lot of people in Ottawa, but I didn’t recognize the number. A young lady named Emily said she was calling from the Governor General’s office. She asked if I was Walter Schneider, and I thought, ‘Are they trying to sell me something here?’ But I was very moved by it and obviously honoured by it.”

It was not a sales pitch Schneider received when he picked up his phone, but a call of gratitude for his service in the betterment of his country. The honour is well deserved for the impact Schneider has had on his industry.

In 1980, Schneider and his partner, the late

Frank Polzler, founded RE/MAX Integra because they both saw an opportunity to effect change (Including the regions Ontario, Atlantic Canada, and the United States, New England, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin).

Forty-five years ago, the Canadian real estate industry was controlled by banks and trust companies, with a few national brands that saw profits heavily favouring brokers. Real estate is an up-close-and-personal industry that relies on personal relationships, with agents at the core of that. The result, however, was that the industry was running on an inherently flawed business model that saw top-producing agents subsidizing nonproducers. How long would those top producers hang around? Not long.

Schneider and Polzler recognized this professional pain point and saw an opportunity to keep those top producers and bring the cream to the top. Thus, RE/MAX Integra — the “home of the top producer” — was born.

The RE/MAX Integra agent-first business model was simple but revolutionary in Canadian real estate: this new business model meant agents kept their commissions, which naturally attracted the top producers, and the best agents joined the company to stay and conquer. The result, according to an MMR Strategy Group Study of Unaided Awareness, is that RE/MAX is recognized as Canada’s No. 1 name in real estate.

Schneider had a humble beginning as the child of immigrant parents living in a modest home. It was where he learned about real estate by seeing firsthand the importance of having a roof over one’s head. “We lived in inner-city Toronto at Dundas and Dufferin,” says Schneider. “I grew up in a little semi-detached house, and we had boarders in our house. My parents used to rent out

a room so they could make the monthly payments. Our kitchen table was always full of strangers all the time as they would rotate in and rotate out. But it was a terrific childhood.”

His parents were his role models, teaching him hard work, discipline, commitment and right from wrong. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Liberal Arts, having not qualified for the MBA program. Years later, after having started many businesses, when Schneider was asked to speak to the graduating class of MBA students, the irony not lost on him. “I have the greatest respect for those with many degrees, but I still believe in the school of hard knocks,” he says. “Life is never a straight line; there are always many zigs and zags.”

His strong business foundation helped him in his early career when he developed his partnership with Frank Polzler. “I was very lucky as I had an incredible business partner for 40 years,” says Schneider. “Frank was 20 years my senior but certainly he was very instrumental and very pivotal, teaching me things. I always said my partnership with him was a gift as it was a free look into 20 years down the road. When we started RE/MAX, I was 26, and he was 46. He was married with kids, and I was single, so you get to have what I call a ‘free look’ around the corner with none of the bumps and bruises along the way. Those came later.”

As one of Canada’s most successful business entrepreneurs, Schneider has seen a lot and he has learned even more. He has developed a few triedand-true guiding principles to help those who will come after him to build brands or businesses. Today, he continues his role as Co-founder of RE/MAX Integra and owner and operator of RE/MAX Europe.

Esteemed business leader, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Schneider reimagined Canadian real estate when he co-founded RE/MAX Integra and in Europe as the owner and operator of RE/MAX Europe

PEOPLE QUIT TOO EARLY WHEN THEY’RE BUILDING SOMETHING. IF IT WAS SO EASY, EVERYONE WOULD DO IT. IN THE JOURNEY OF BUSINESS AND LIFE, YOU DEVELOP A LOT OF SCAR TISSUE ‘‘ ‘‘

“Firstly, it takes longer than you expected. Secondly, it’s going to have more energy than you anticipated, and thirdly, you’re going to go over budget,” says Schneider. “I think that what often happens is that people quit too early when they’re building something. If it was so easy, everyone would do it. In the journey of business and life, you develop a lot of scar tissue. This was crystalized by a friend of mine a couple of years ago over lunch when I said, ‘Geez, this body of mine has a lot of scar tissue on it.’ He then said, ‘Did you know, Walter, that scar tissue is the toughest tissue in the human body?’ And I thought that’s very true. You should take pride in scar tissue.”

One of many who share that scar tissue is Dennis Curtin, a lifelong friend of Scheider’s who was also part of the original foundation blocks which built the RE/MAX business those many years ago. “Walter and I have known each other for over 40 years,” says Curtin, now President, Regional Services, Inc. “I have watched him build RE/MAX into the powerhouse it is today. I have also witnessed firsthand my best friend create an enormous legacy with his many generous contributions to so many worthy causes. He truly is one of a kind.”

Schneider’s business successes have allowed him to give back and he participates actively in

Hiring a young and ambitious Walter Schneider, here with his business partner and friend Frank Polzler, was labelled a “huge mistake” by the RE/MAX organization after he was brought on board during a time of great fear of impending bankruptcy and collapse
An avid collector of vintage automobiles, Schneider descibes his personal garage as “eclectic” each make, model, and year of any given automobile represents a special memory in his life

philanthropy. He has sat on three non-profit boards of directors, including that of the prestigious Canada’s Walk of Fame.

“Walter’s wisdom and generosity are unmatched,” says Jeffrey Latimer, CEO of Canada’s Walk of Fame and Partner, LOFT Entertainment. “His wisdom, however, in one area has added one of the most important statements of truth to my life story, and that is ‘Money and power only make you more of who you already were at your core,’ Walter is incredibly kind and giving, but it comes from a different kind of heart than others. His success has only made him a bigger, more powerful version of the wonderful man that he has always been.”

Schneider and his wife Maria are both Life Legacy Members of the David Foster Foundation

based in Victoria, British Columbia, started by the musical legend and dedicated to providing financial support to Canadian families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants.

“Walter Schneider has been such an important person in my life. His dedication to my foundation is unparalleled and I will be forever grateful to him,” says Foster. “But his good deeds and philanthropy don’t stop there as he has dedicated his life to the service of others, his generosity knows no bounds and his business savvy has been well documented throughout his career. Smart, kind, generous and extremely philanthropic, a family man and darn good looking too! It’s only fitting that Walter has received the most prestigious Order of Canada a GREAT choice! He continues to make Canada and all of us proud!”

The Schneider Family Foundation, also near and dear to his heart, contributes to many charitable organizations, with a renewed focus for the foundation coming shortly.

“Our family has been very blessed, and what we are doing right now is stepping back and trying to figure out something that’s really central to us as a family, as a legacy piece,” says Schneider. “We’re in the early stages, and my daughter and my two boys, of whom I am so proud, are driving that, and we’ll see where we land.”

Business innovator, change agent, visionary, philanthropist and a graduate of the school of hard knocks, Walter Schneider is a grateful Canadian who believes he lives in the greatest country on Earth. What an extraordinary gentleman, which his country can be extremely proud to call their own.

UNINHABITABLE PLACE

the greatest challenge that motorsport has to offer, taking competitors on a 7,700-kilometre journey through the deserts of Saudi Arabia

Australia’s Daniel Sanders overcomes the elements and the limits of human endurance by winning the 2025 Dakar Bike Rally

The Empty Desert, or Rub’ al Khali, occupying the southern third of the Arabian Desert, is clearly the world’s most inhospitable and forbidding place. The desert covers some 650,000 square kilometres, is 1,000 kilometres long by 500 kilometres wide and is one of the planet’s most aptly named geographic locations as it is completely empty.

With annual precipitation of less than 50 millimetres, the region is classified as hyper-arid, and it has been used by the U.S. Air Force to test its desert-survival survival procedures. The first documented journeys by non-resident explorers were made less than 100 years ago; as recently as 2006, a Saudi Arabian expedition discovered 31 new plant species and 24 species of birds there. The Empty Desert is foreign to humankind and not a place you’d want to find yourself — that is, unless you have a spirit of adventure, inner fortitude and passion for off-road motorbike racing, such as the people participating in the Dakar Bike Rally, who are eager to take on the extreme temperatures and a racing distance of more than 5,000 kilometres over two brutal weeks in one of the most stringent tests of the endurance of both human and machine.

People such as Australian Daniel Sanders, who emerged as the overall winner of the 2025 Dakar Rally, the 20th victory for his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team. A model of consistency over the fortnight, Sanders won five of the Rally’s 12 stages, for the biggest win of his accomplished career as one of world’s top bike racers.

“Winning this race feels massive,” said Sanders after conquering The Empty Desert for the first time. “When I came over the last dune and saw the bivouac, I got instant chills through the whole body. All the emotions just started coming through! The Dakar is the biggest off-road bike race in the world.”

“Off-road” is putting it mildly for the world’s

Once competitors and their machines have finally recovered from this rally, you can be sure they'll be hatching a plan to come back to Saudi Arabia to do it all again next year

toughest rally and motorsport’s mightiest challenge, battling the deserts of Saudi Arabia, with one single stage, the 48-hour Chrono, covering nearly 1,000 kilometres spread over two days. It is a stage that requires two riders to spell each other off, and this year it was won by new category debutant Rokas Baciuska and his co-driver Oriol Mena of the Toyota Hilux team.

Pushing Sanders to the overall victory was his Red Bull KTM Factory teammate Luciano Benavides, who won two stages in the rally’s second week. The Argentinian eventually had to settle for fourth overall, his best-ever Dakar finish, but he’s looking for more.

“To get close to the front, you must risk everything, and it’s not easy to finish in one piece,” said Benavides. “It was a really tough Dakar, but I’m happy with how I rode. This has been my best Dakar performance by far, and I will not stop until I win this race.”

There is a special inner drive for those who compete in athletic tests — just to see if they can finish in one piece. It separates all great athletes and sportsmen from the rest of us. They understand the risk, welcome the challenge and

have that special fortitude that sets them apart, and some demonstrate these skills at a very early age.

Such as the breakout star at this year’s Dakar Rally, Edgar Canet, who is just 19 years old. At an age when most of the rest of us were staring blankly at a university orientation map, the rookie was a last-minute recruit of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and raced in the Rally2 category due to his lack of experience. Not only did Canet win the Rally2, but he finished eighth overall, a sign of a very promising future at the top of motorsports.

“For two weeks, I’ve only been thinking about arriving at the finish,” said the fresh-faced Canet. “Finishing eighth overall and winning in Rally2 is a dream come true. Also, my teammate Daniel Sanders wins the overall so I’m super happy with that.”

That special drive and determination, honed by exceptional talent and skill, is what it takes to not only survive but to thrive at the Dakar Bike Rally, a 7,700-kilometre test of humans against nature, and the greatest challenge in motorsports.

DAVID BECKHAM: LUXURY WITH BOSS ONE

Introducing the BOSS ONE Bodywear Collection by David Beckham and HUGO BOSS for Men

BY

David Beckham has once again shattered expectations with his latest collaboration with Hugo Boss, where bodywear serves more than mere function; it’s an experience, a feeling, a statement — words that describe this collaboration with David Beckham itself. The BOSS ONE Bodywear Collection, launched in January 2025, is a bold

exploration of simplicity and craftsmanship captured through the visionary lens of the iconic Mert and Marcus. It’s not just a campaign; it’s a cinematic moment, one that breathes life into Beckham’s image as a symbol of modern masculinity, effortlessly cool and unwaveringly confident.

“People often think they know my story, but

this time it’s different,” Beckham shares. “I thought my days in bodywear were behind me, but when Boss shared their vision for this collection and brought in Mert and Marcus to shape it, there was no way I could say no.”

The campaign is as much a narrative as it is a visual masterpiece: Beckham, stepping out of a sleek sports car and into a New York loft, is

He

believed his modelling days were behind him but is showing the world that he still has it

captured in a moment that is both familiar and electrifying. The music pulses, the energy builds and Beckham’s appearance in the black BOSS ONE boxer briefs is nothing short of magnetic. It’s the kind of understated allure that feels personal yet universal — an invitation to enter his world.

The BOSS ONE Collection is the epitome of what luxury bodywear should be. The palette is stripped down — black and white. Clean lines, impeccable cuts and materials that mould to the body like they were made just for you. It’s not just about looking good, it's about feeling invincible all day, every day. From the figure-hugging boxer briefs to the finely tailored T-shirts and tanks, each piece offers the perfect balance of comfort and design. Crafted from a premium blend of cotton and elastane, these garments move with the wearer, effortlessly adapting to every situation, from the most relaxed to the most daring. It’s bodywear that empowers, that dares you to step outside of the ordinary.

The launch event, held at Lightroom in King’s Cross in London, was a celebration of everything the BOSS ONE Bodywear Collection stands for. The venue — edgy, sleek and modern — perfectly mirrored the collection’s esthetic. Guests were immersed in the campaign through 360° screenings, the powerful imagery surrounding them as light shows intensified their anticipation. As the evening unfolded, golden martinis by Seventy One and electrifying sets by DJs Mark Ronson and Honey Dijon created an atmosphere as electric and stylish as the collection itself. It was a night of decadence and creative energy, setting the stage for a campaign that would leave a lasting impression.

But this campaign doesn’t just stay within the confines of one event — it pushes boundaries and expands globally. Beckham’s image will dominate cinemas and streaming platforms, appearing in campaigns across Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max and more. Billboards featuring his magnetic presence will tower over high-traffic locations worldwide, ensuring that the BOSS ONE Bodywear Collection isn’t just a fashion statement but a cultural moment. Social media will come alive with nearly 100 influential figures, from artists to actors to designers, each wearing their own interpretation of BOSS ONE. And in a groundbreaking move, Boss will introduce interactive vending machines in key cities across

‘‘
I THOUGHT MY DAYS IN BODYWEAR WERE BEHIND ME, BUT WHEN BOSS SHARED THEIR VISION FOR THIS COLLECTION AND BROUGHT IN MERT AND MARCUS TO SHAPE IT, THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD SAY NO

Europe and the United States, making it easier and more exciting than ever to engage with the collection in a truly immersive way.

This launch is more than a moment it’s a revolution. The BOSS ONE Bodywear Collection doesn’t just elevate the everyday — it redefines it. Beckham’s enduring partnership with BOSS isn’t just about clothing, it’s about a shared commitment to pushing the limits of style and innovation. This is a collection for those who dare to break conventions, who choose to live by their own rules. For those who wear BOSS ONE, it’s more than just bodywear — it’s a declaration

‘‘

of self-assurance, a reflection of the modern man who defines his own legacy.

The BOSS ONE Bodywear Collection is now available globally at boss.com, select BOSS stores, pop-up locations and premium retailers. This is a collection that is destined to leave an imprint on fashion history — clean, bold and unapologetically modern. For those who choose to wear it, it’s more than just a garment — it's a a celebration of everything it means to be your own boss.

ALL THINGS FAST AND FINE

Barry Skolnick shares one of the world’s great collections with everyone, which tells you just about everything about his character

WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER
INTERVIEW BY FERNANDO ZERILLO

hen you first meet Barry Skolnick, you’re immediately struck by his strong handshake, deep and precise voice and a gaze which reveals nothing at first glance. But once past his initial formality, Barry quickly reveals himself as the ultimate guy’s guy who is warm, approachable and full of enthusiasm.

He also exudes the epitome of the Miami Beach vibe — he’s dashing and dapper, suave and sophisticated, elegant and engaging. Think Richard Gere in Pretty Woman meets Jonathan Goldsmith, the actor from those “most interesting man in the world” television commercials of several years ago.

Skolnick is a self-made entrepreneur known the world over for his incredible car and fine art collection and as the founder of Ikonick Motors. His multi-million-dollar car and art collection, The Ikonick Collection, is housed in Miami Beach. More gallery than showroom, his extensive collection of some of the world’s finest automobiles, sculptures, paintings and other fine art is enjoyed by everyone. He even rents it out as what must be one of the most distinctive event spaces on the planet.

Stepping into Barry’s gallery, you instantly sense his deep pride in all that he’s carefully curated and built. Unlike traditional collectors who guard their treasures privately, Barry breaks the mold by eagerly welcoming guests inside to share his passion. Entering the gallery is like walking into another dimension of art and cars, which seamlessly flow together. When you first enter Ikonick Motors you can easily get lost among the many different rooms including the Ferrari Gallery and the Porsche Gallery, the impressive line-up of McLaren cars and a stunning array of antique and classic automobiles.

From afar, it might seem simple to gather and showcase one-of-a-kind cars and rare art pieces. In reality, though, it demands a uniquely discerning eye and an unwavering vision, qualities which Barry clearly possesses in abundance. Here, every detail matters with no corner left untouched and each visitor walks away knowing they’ve experienced something truly special. It is a far cry from the world of the young kid who braved the elements to make a few bucks on his bicycle on Long Island, New York.

“My first entrepreneurial venture was as a paper boy,” says Skolnick in a recent exclusive interview with Dolce Magazine in his impressive space

I ALWAYS THOUGHT I HAD THIS SORT OF CREATIVITY IN ME. ONE OF MY FAVOURITE QUOTES IS ‘A MAN’S MOST VALUABLE POSSESSION IS HIS OWN CREATIVE POWER’”

surrounded by rare automobiles and artwork. “I had a route and come rain or snow or shine, I had to deliver those papers, and it was tough at times. If it was pouring rain I had to get on my bike or walk and sometimes it was pretty cold. But it is not easy if you want to be an entrepreneur or go into business for yourself. There are a lot of sacrifices you have to make and maybe that’s why entrepreneurs are sort of a breed apart, because we’re willing to take those risks. There are not enough hours in the day and you just do what it takes to succeed.”

Skolnick and his brothers had what he considered a very humble childhood growing up on Long Island. “My parents purchased their house in 1957 for $21,000 and they died in that house,” notes Skolnick. “I would always say to my mother ‘Don’t you want a bigger house and a bigger bathroom so you’re not always bumping

into my father?’ She would always say, ‘I like bumping into your father … why would I want a bigger house so he’s farther away from me?’ They were very old-school.”

Barry is not your typical 9-to-5 businessman — he lives by the belief that business doesn’t adhere to fixed schedules or routines. Every moment counts and his passion knows no clock. He remembers well the lessons he learned from the hard work ethic he often saw in his father. “His hope and his dream were to maybe have myself and my brothers join him in his business someday,” recalls Skolnick. “He was a hard-working man, he seemed to be working all the time, whether it was weekends or the evenings. I’d come home and he was still up doing the books or something. He was a tremendous influence on my life.”

Skolnick used these lessons well in becoming an entrepreneur, launching successful businesses in the residential and commercial real estate sectors. As founder and current owner of Ikonick Holdings, he has an equal passion for both automobiles and fine art. He enjoys supporting new and local artists as well as seeking out upand-coming contemporary artists and realizes that choosing the right piece of art can both soothe the soul and be a very lucrative investment, just like a classic automobile.

“I had a bit of a car collection up north and it was sort of an old-barn type of setting, with old gas pumps and gas-station signs,” says Skolnick, explaining the idea behind his Florida showroom. “When I decided to move to Miami on a permanent basis, I decided I needed to create something different. I always thought I had this sort of creativity in me. One of my favourite quotes is ‘A man’s most valuable possession is his own creative power’ and I’ve always believed in that and as a result, this is what you see.”

Skolnick’s creative side is on full display in the gallery, with perhaps the most arresting art sculpture dominating the space. This large “Icosahedron,” named for its geometrical form, is a polyhedron with twenty plane faces that include equilateral triangles. He purchased it from artist Anthony James, well-known for his monumental installations and sculptures. The piece has an almost gravitational pull on all who see it from its position in the gallery.

“Barry purchased my 80-inch icosahedron from Opera Gallery in Miami and installed it among his extraordinary car collection,” says James. “I was thrilled as I’ve had a passion for cars since childhood. He invited me to see it in person, and it truly feels at home there. In a way, I create artwork from industrial materials, just as the phenomenal cars in Barry’s collection can also be considered works of art crafted from industrial materials.”

What you see at the Ikonick Collection is a stunning array of some of the world’s most exotic and fastest cars, including almost every type of Ferrari you can imagine. The venue is also

The Ikonick Collection showroom marries one of the world’s most impressive classic car collections with fine art, the stunning work of local artists, and has been called one of the greatest compilations of supercars and art in the world. Skolnick built up his legendary collection since moving permanently to Miami Beach twenty years ago

a showcase for some of the greatest moments and proudest creations in Ferrari’s long history. Growing up in Long Island, Skolnick always admired Ferraris and dreamed of owning one. His car journey with Ferrari began with the purchase of a 1983 Boxer, which he still has.

“Prior to my interest in Ferraris, in my early days I was more into the American cars and working on them,” says Skolnick. “That’s where my passion began and over time, I just appreciated some of the finer things in life and maybe that’s what motivated me. What was a desire became a need.”

After twenty years in Miami Beach his collection of Ferraris includes models like the 599 GTO, 458 Speciale, Monza, SF90 Stradale and even the ultra-exclusive flagship models such as the LaFerrari hypercar, the F50 and the Enzo. “One of my all-time favourite cars is the Ferrari F50,” says Skolnick. “It’s the styling, it’s the rear 12-cylinder, it’s open. To me, it’s a street-legal race car.”

The Skolnick “garage” — if you can even call it that — is one of the greatest in the world and houses a jaw-dropping collection of some of the most desired cars in the world, especially when it comes to Ferrari collections. Today, Skolnick owns more than 150 exotic cars.

As for the best of the best in his collection, Skolnick says that’s like picking a favourite child — you just can’t. But two stand out to him: the Apollo IE and the Ferrari F12tdf, which he says he’s likely to put the most miles on from his impressive Ferrari collection.

Creating Ikonick Motors was a pure passion project for Skolnick, who always dreamt of creating a work environment that brought himself and others joy. The collection has caught the eye of some of the biggest names in the collectible world, including RM Sotheby’s, the world’s leading collector-car auction house. Just over a year ago the Ikonick Collection of supercars, hypercars and

classic-grade vehicles listed two rare automobiles for public sale.

Included was a 2014 McLaren P1 with just over 2,000 miles on it and a starting bid of US$1 million and a 2017 Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster with less than 400 miles on it, starting at $300,000.

To attract the attention of such a major player as Sotheby’s is testament to the quality and value of the Ikonick Collection. “We’re honoured to be listing part of Barry’s collection,” said Chip Perry, CEO of Sotheby’s Motorsport when announcing the public sales. “The Ikonick Collection is one of the greatest compilations of supercars and art in the world, and it is a true privilege to host the first public auction from the Collection. Barry is an icon in the luxury collectors’ space, known for curating only the best of the best. We’re excited to help him make room to continue expanding his collection.”

Skolnick is a successful man of substance, with a backstory that would captivate any dinner party and a palpable aura of style-without-eventrying who is immediately the centre of attention in any room he ever enters. Mystery and intrigue combined with understated sophistication — clearly a man for all seasons, with a heart of gold.

Skolnick’s late parents, Connie and Allen, instilled in him the Jewish teachings of tzedakah, in which charitable giving is a moral obligation, so philanthropy was taught to him at a very young age. After his parents died, he was put in charge of the Skolnick Family Charitable Trust, which includes supporting the Holocaust Memorial Fund, and his focus has remained on enhancing medical care, sciences and education within his community.

“I was introduced to philanthropy through my parents,” he says. “They started a Foundation and I became the sole trustee upon their passing. The Foundation grew tremendously after my parents’ passings. It was something I was raised with, that it was always important to give back and I am just

very fortunate to have that position where I can make a difference and I do.”

Shortly after moving to Miami, he was invited to meet with Mount Sinai Medical Center of Miami. He felt an immediate connection and stepped up to play a leading role in 2013, culminating in the building of the Skolnick Surgical Tower on its main campus in 2019. His connection to Mount Sinai would deepen in a most personal way when Skolnick complained to his doctor about some nasal discomfort.

“That led to seeing a specialist and they put a camera up my nose and they found a tumour

in my upper sinus,” says Skolnick. “They couldn’t operate and I then went through some heavy chemo and radiation, so I’ve been a patient at Mount Sinai as well. Thank goodness things went well and I’m now 15 months cancer-free. For those going through cancer, I would say to try and stay positive. Try to find something that inspires or motivates you to allow you to wake up every day and take on whatever that treatment is. It was pretty brutal. I went through some very tough times. You have to try and stay positive, even in those darkest moments and dig deep to find that strength.”

Skolnick later served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Mount Sinai from 2019 to 2022 and as President of Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation in 2022. In 2023, he was elected Chairman of the Executive Board of Trustees, a prestigious honour at one of the premier medical centres in the United States.

“My family and I are deeply invested in Mount Sinai’s mission and what it means for the growing South Florida community,” he said when elected. “I am truly honoured to accept this opportunity to continue to improve the health and well-being of our residents.”

“Barry’s leadership and passion to continue to improve the health of our community reflect the mission of Mount Sinai, and his long-standing involvement in our efforts has been exemplary,” said Gino Santorio, President and CEO of Mount Sinai of Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Skolnick recently received another honour, in a lifetime filled with laurels, when he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chamber of Commerce of the City of Miami Beach, a tribute to the impact he has had since moving to the city a mere two decades ago.

“Barry Skolnick’s impact on our community is

The showroom features many of the 150 exotic cars Skolnick owns, with almost every type of Ferrari you can imagine including his first, a 1983 Boxer which he still owns

truly immeasurable,” said Richard Segal, Chairman of the Board of Governors, Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce. “His dedication to philanthropy, business excellence and making Miami Beach a better place embodies the very spirit of this award. It is an honour for the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce to recognize him with the Lifetime Achievement Award at our 99th Annual Awards Dinner and Gala.”

Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner agreed. “Barry Skolnick’s benevolence to our community has made a profound difference in the lives of so many. His support for Mount Sinai Medical Center through the Skolnick Surgical Tower has helped ensure that world-class health care remains accessible to our residents,” he said. “His Lifetime Achievement Award from the Miami

Beach Chamber of Commerce is a testament to his generosity and lasting impact. He earned this honour which is so well deserved.”

However, while obviously honoured by a “lifetime” award, Skolnick doesn’t see it as a “parting gift,” as if he were about to depart at any moment. “I’m not quite sure how to take this award,” says Skolnick. “Of course, it is a tremendous honour, although I feel like I have a lot more to give and many more things to do and accomplish. I just turned 69, so hopefully I’ve still got twenty years or so to go, at least. I do many things and I try to follow my passions. I have done real estate for forty years and still continue to do it. I have gotten into many different businesses in my career. I think in life, as long as you have more successes than failures, you are ahead of the

game — that’s how I look at it and I still have lots to do.”

These days, more than ever, the world needs more Barry Skolnick, truly a Renaissance man. A man who honours his parents, loves his family, contributes to his community, has faced his own mortality and shares his love of artistic and automotive rarities for the sheer enjoyment of others. The book of life is a collection of experiences. Barry Skolnick is a collector without peer and a thankful reminder of the greater good you can do, and pass on to others, through each of those experiences.

Skolnick is a caring and sharing philanthropist, opening his collection to others while raising millions for local charities

ULYSSE NARDIN UNVEILS U.S. FLAGSHIP BOUTIQUE IN SILICON VALLEY

The Merging of High-Tech Innovation with Swiss Craftsmanship

Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin opened its highly anticipated U.S. flagship boutique at The Villa Menlo Park in the heart of Silicon Valley. The store marks the brand’s only stand-alone location in North America and reinforces its commitment to blending cutting-edge technology with the centuries-old traditions of Swiss horology. The boutique, launched in partnership with local retail partner Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry, promises to offer a sophisticated destination for watch enthusiasts and collectors alike.

The new boutique is part of a growing trend of luxury watchmakers establishing a presence in

Silicon Valley. Ulysse Nardin joins other high-end brands, including MB&F, H. Moser & Cie. and Buben & Zörweg, all of which occupy The Villa’s ground floor alongside Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry. The Villa Menlo Park is a retail and cultural hub that brings together fine craftsmanship from various artistic disciplines, from jewelry to timepieces and even the culinary arts.

“Ulysse Nardin has been advancing watchmaking since 1846, and we’re excited to highlight our innovation — pioneering silicon technology into watchmaking — here in Silicon Valley,” says Patrick Pruniaux, Ulysse Nardin’s chairman and CEO. This

statement reflects the brand's heritage of combining traditional Swiss artistry with groundbreaking technology, such as their revolutionary use of silicon in watchmaking, which began with the Freak timepiece in 2001.

The design of the Ulysse Nardin boutique mirrors this fusion of innovation and tradition. The interior, crafted by designer Bertrand Fairerol, blends natural elements with high-tech details to evoke a sense of raw beauty and sophistication. With polished surfaces and mineral-inspired accents, the boutique’s design reflects the brand’s heritage and that groundbreaking use of silicon. A striking “Silicon Inside” light installation, which reflects the brand’s technological prowess, further connects the store to its Silicon Valley cultural roots.

“Silicon Valley collectors have a deep appreciation for independent watchmakers like Ulysse Nardin — brands driven by vision, creativity, and true independence,” says Jared Silver, president of Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry.

The Ulysse Nardin flagship boutique at The Villa Menlo Park is not just a retail space but a symbol of the intersection between artistry, technology, and culture. As Silicon Valley continues to grow as a global destination for luxury and innovation, this new outpost offers an exciting chapter in the ongoing evolution of the Swiss watchmaker’s legacy.

THE WORLD’S TOUGHEST ROW

Four exceptional young men will row across the Atlantic Ocean to raise funds to support young people’s development

WRITTEN BY RICK MULLER | INTERVIEW BY MICHELLE ZERILLO-SOSA PHOTO

Unlike many other activities, rowing can be both calm and romantic, violent and ferocious. Images from a play by Shakespeare of rowing on a still pond on a moonlit night or of wooing the girl on the calm Lake in New York City’s Central Park is drastically different than the fast, furious and hair-raising drama of an Olympic final but they all contain the core attribute of using human musclepower, and nothing else, to move a boat across a body of water.

Now, put the Team Seneca Navy rowing team from upstate New York into that latter and most ferocious category. And instead of rowing across the relatively flat water of a controlled Olympic course, the four young men of Team Seneca Navy will be taking on the power, fury and savagery

of the Atlantic Ocean this December, hoping to raise funds for youth initiatives in their respective communities.

The endeavour Team Seneca Navy will be undertaking, beginning on December 12 from La Gomera in the Canary Islands and ultimately finishing at English Harbour in Antigua — a treacherous journey of 4,828 nonstop kilometres — is one of the most prestigious and grueling rowing races on the planet, known as the World’s Toughest Row.

Rowers will compete in Solo Class, Duos, Trios and four-person crews. To prepare for the challenge, competitors must undergo rigorous training that includes physical conditioning, navigation and survival skills, and must be equipped with all the necessary supplies, including food, water and

safety equipment. It is a challenge unlike any other in world rowing.

The four young men of Team Seneca Navy Moritz Marchart of Stuttgart, Germany; Anthony Carella of Vaughan, Ont.; Ryan Mulflur of Hingham, Mass.; and David Ranney of Cleveland, Ohio — all recently sat down to speak with Dolce By a fortuitous twist of fate, they’d all met while attending the relatively small school of Hobart College in Geneva, N.Y. and gravitated together from among the 40 or so members of Hobart’s rowing team.

They all shared the same interest in and passion for rowing, but also something else: a determination to do something different with their sport and to make a difference in the world, and for David Ranney that motivation came to him

Anthony Carella (Vaughan, Ont., Canada), Ryan Mulflur (Hingham, Mass., U.S.)

early in life.

“I had two brothers who rowed, so I was introduced to the flat-water version of the sport early on,” says Ranney. “But when I was in the fifth grade, there was an alumna of my elementary school, and when she was just 19 years old she became the youngest person to solo-row across the Atlantic Ocean. So at a very young age I knew this facet of the sport was out there. As I pursued my own rowing career throughout high school and college and met these guys, and we did some interesting physical things, the journey of that young lady was always in the back of my head. So for me something like this race, spending a lot

of time at sea with so many physical and mental challenges, is really at the intersection of my knowledge, skills and abilities.”

A journey of close to 5,000 kilometres over the course of 30 days on the open ocean can seem not only daunting but practically impossible taken in its totality. The secret is to break the challenge into smaller parts; the team will row in two-hour shifts and have two-hour rests in between manning the oars.

“We can’t really think about rowing three thousand miles,” says Marchart. “We need to think about getting through our next two-hour rowing shift and just taking it step by step and day

by day — just breaking down this huge project of thousands of miles into seven or eight miles in a two-hour shift.”

The crew members have each chosen a local youth charity to raise money for — all are charities that work to foster youth leadership, personal growth and character development in young people and provide them with opportunities to become better versions of themselves. These include Youth Assisting Youth in Toronto, chosen Canada’s Carella; the Boys and Girls Club of Geneva, N.Y., The Foundry in Cleveland; and The Friends of the Children in Boston.

But with boats costing anywhere from $80,000

The mission is to provide opportunities for youth to pursue better versions of themselves
‘‘ ‘‘

THINK

to $120,000, it is taking money to raise money. Team Seneca Navy, which purchased a boat last September and has a goal of also raising $200,000 for the youth charities, has been aggressively fundraising to support their goal of participating in order to give back and is actively seeking donations.

Carella, the team’s Canadian representative, says that the biggest challenge, and biggest reward, may be just being able to compete. “No matter how the race goes, because there are so many variables, the most rewarding thing on my mind right now is just getting to the start line because it’s been years of preparation,” he says. “So many people who have done this race have said the hardest thing is just getting to the start line. That will be very rewarding, but then the real work will start.” Few team sports require more cooridinated

teamwork than team rowing. You must understand each other, recognize strengths and weaknesses and, most importantly, be there for each other when the tough times hit. Mulflur, the youngest of the crew, says that this is where these four friends may have an advantage.

“A lot of teams that decide to do this sort of thing struggle with picking the team because they’re all strangers,” says Mulflur. “But the deep friendship we have developed over the years is really strong, and I think it’s going to be a huge advantage for us out there. We’re rowing for the guy who is right in front of us.”

If you close your eyes, you can almost imagine the violence and volatility of the Atlantic Ocean this December. You can see it. You can hear it. You can almost taste that salty spray. Four young men alone against a behemoth that takes no prisoners.

Rowing together, pounding and driving, every stroke the result of the fibre of their being and their unrelenting determination.

Team Seneca Navy will be relentless in the World’s Toughest Row, pushing their emotional, mental and physical boundaries to their absolute limits, knowing that each stroke will resonate far beyond their tiny boat battling against the giant ocean swells.

Those swells can almost be a metaphor that matches the turbulence of our times. But the notion of these four young men testing their resolve, mettle and physical limits this December to promote and expand opportunities for youth in our communities is a calming and inspirational thought to steer us all through stormy seas.

SUBVERSIVE TAKE ON TROPHIES IN MILAN

Czech designer Maxim Velčovský will unveil his Triumph of Trophies exhibition at Milan Design Week

BY BONNIE POP

Maxim Velčovský is a prominent Czech designer who continues to push boundaries in the world of design

This April, at Milan Design Week, Czech designer Maxim Velčovský will unveil his Triumph of Trophies, a provocative new exhibition that plays with the meaning of prestige. Hosted at the Czech Consulate in Milan from April 1 to 13, 2025, show asks a deceptively simple question: What does it mean to win?

Velčovský, one of the most recognized talents in contemporary Czech design, is best known for transforming everyday objects into conceptual commentary. This time, the focus is on trophies — those shining symbols of success we place on pedestals, both literally and metaphorically. But Velčovský’s are not the kind of awards you’d expect to find in a glass case or boardroom. No, his are distorted, sometimes glowing (thanks to uranium glass), and always laced with irony.

“They carry stories of triumph,” Velčovský says, “but at the same time they can symbolize downfall or emptiness.” With this series, he leans into that paradox. Triumph of Trophies is less a celebration of glory than a sharp critique of the rituals surrounding recognition. The message lands quietly but powerfully: We are what we glorify.

Velčovský’s material of choice — glass — brings a poetic fragility to the work. The pieces, produced at the famed Ajeto Glass Crafters & Demonstration Workshop in the Czech Republic, shimmer with contradiction: solid yet breakable, clear yet opaque in meaning. Uranium glass, with its ghostly green glow under UV light, adds another layer — a visual metaphor for the radioactive nature of ego and acclaim.

THEY CARRY STORIES OF TRIUMPH,

Velčovský's work operates at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and conceptual design, often using glass as a medium to explore deeper social and historical contexts

BUT AT THE SAME TIME THEY CAN SYMBOLIZE

DOWNFALL OR EMPTINESS ‘‘ ‘‘

Ajeto itself plays a key role in the exhibition’s narrative. The legendary studio, now part of the Lasvit Group, has been a playground for visionary designers for three decades, collaborating with the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier, Zaha Hadid and Maarten Baas. Velčovský, who is also Lasvit’s artistic director, taps into this legacy with work that is as much about craft as it is about commentary.

“Maxim’s trophies reflect human attitudes with irony,” says Dr. Stephan Hamel, art theorist and co-curator of the exhibition. “They explore how success is perceived — and sometimes warped — in the modern world.”

This duality runs through the entire exhibition. On one hand, the show is a master class in Czech glassmaking — all fine detail and glowing technique. On the other, it’s an invitation to question the systems and symbols we take for granted. Why do we crave recognition? What happens when the object meant to honour achievement becomes hollow?

Set against the backdrop of Milan Design Week — a global summit of style, innovation and selfpromotion — Triumph of Trophies couldn’t be more timely. In a cultural moment obsessed with winning, Velčovský reminds us that not all victories age well. Some crack under scrutiny.

Still, the show doesn’t feel cynical. It feels necessary. Velčovský’s work doesn’t mock ambition — it challenges its packaging. And in doing so, it invites a deeper look at what we value, what we reward, and why.

For those attending Milan Design Week this spring, Triumph of Trophies offers something rare: an experience that’s as visually striking as it is intellectually disarming. It may not send you home with a prize, but you will leave thinking — which might be the real win.

Q: When did you first know you wanted to be a designer?

A: I never really knew. I thought it would be just my hobby and designing for friends, and then friends of friends. Somehow, I started designing for people all over the world without really noticing.

Q: What sets apart a Chana Marelus style from other designs?

A: I like the gowns to be unique, clean but sophisticated. Because of my background growing up religious and only designing modest, I feel like today when I design more freely, it still connects me to my past. My gowns balance the final design.

Q: How do you define beauty and style?

A: For me, it’s about natural and effortless with confidence.

Q: What has been the fondest memory related to a client’s experience?

A: There isn’t one single memory. It’s being able to see my brides wearing their gowns and looking beautiful and happy.

Q: What are some of your favourite fabrics to work with?

A: I like working with silks. I like the fabric to flow and speak the same language as the feminine body.

Q: What advice would you offer to someone who wants to enter the industry?

A: I think you need to be clear with your style and what you want to show to the world.

Q: What lessons you have learned along the way that you wish you had known in the beginning?

A: That everything is going to be fine. Even the biggest challenges.

Q: Where do you go to get inspired?

A: I like my studio. It’s in a beautiful neighbourhood in Tel Aviv and very quiet. I need to see fabrics and materials to get inspired.

Q: What are 3 things you cannot live without?

A: My family, art, music.

Q: What is your definition of la dolce vita, the sweet life?

A: For me, it can also be a drop of sour. I don’t like my life to be too sweet. I like to work hard and be challenged, and sometimes taste my bitter tears. It helps me grow and feel alive and strong.

EMBRACING SISTERHOOD WITH THE WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AWARDS

President and Founder of Women Empowerment Awards Klaudia Zinaty shares her passion for promoting female empowerment

WRITTEN BY ISHA SHARMA | INTERVIEW BY MARC CASTALDO

Klaudia Zinaty encourages us to understand that to rise as individuals, we must lift others along the way
Photo Shoot Location at Prima Lighting @primalighting

Wemay be familiar with the quote “Real queens fix each other’s crowns.” But are you aware of a foundation that celebrates this quote in the truest meaning? The Women Empowerment Foundation is a space where women uplift, inspire and celebrate each others’ growth and excellence in their diverse professions.

President and Founder of the Women Empowerment Awards, Klaudia Zinaty is a woman who wears many hats. She is a motivational speaker, entrepreneur and educator, but most importantly an inspiration for how entire communities can flourish when we extend support to each other.

Speaking about her journey of building the female Empowerment Awards, she told Dolce about how she has always been passionate about advocating for women, making their voices heard, recognizing equality and reducing the gender gap. It was during COVID, when she was leading a non-profit with a majority of members who were women, including those who owned businesses, that she recognized the devastating impact the pandemic had on so many amazing women women who were being laid off because of COVID or staying at home because their kids were not going to school or daycare but were still working relentlessly to keep their businesses going.

Klaudia Zinaty is dedicated to reaching women across Canada, fostering a sense of community, collaboration, and change to create a positive ripple effect of opportunities for women to pursue, whether they are professional, educational, or for personal growth

hear incredible stories that will move them, talk about their own journeys and feel motivated. One of last year’s initiatives was to invite young girls to attend the awards. The foundation connected with four organizations that support young girls from marginalized communities. All the girls were given glamorous makeovers, then came into the room to meet the women working in different industries, an experience that was created to let them know that their dreams weren’t only dreams, but could some day be a reality.

Another heartwarming initiative was to give scholarships to young girls across Canada. Within a month and half of its launch in September 2024, the foundation received around 160 applications and was able to award scholarships to four girls in STEM and entrepreneurship to support their secondary education. The goal is to impact as many young girls and leaders as possible.

She saw their perseverance as they multitasked and dedicated themselves to their many different responsibilities — most significantly, she saw women coming together and supporting each other. They were giving shoutouts on social media, buying from each other and celebrating women’s empowerment in an authentic way. She added, “I wanted to create a platform, a movement that celebrated the essence of what women’s empowerment is all about.”

Reminiscing about her childhood, she shared how she grew up with two sisters and how her parents were often asked about not having a son. Her father would often respond by saying “I have got three strong girls.” The presence of such role models that included a supportive male figure making sure they put themselves first and a strong mother managing a household helped her recognize the limitless potential of women.

She continued to be surrounded by inspiring people throughout high school and university. She would look up to these women whether it was

I WANTED TO CREATE A PLATFORM, A MOVEMENT THAT CELEBRATED THE ESSENCE OF WHAT WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT IS ALL ABOUT ‘‘ ‘‘

because of their confidence, eloquence or the sheer ability to give back to the community. It is what she learned that she wishes to show young girls in her turn, irrespective of their cultures or backgrounds, to see the endless opportunities that await them.

With the Women Empowerment Awards, women in a range of industries get a chance to network,

No successful journey happens without obstacles. The foundation also faced challenges in terms of opportunities, whether that was funding from governments, banks or grants. Many women work the same company all their lives but aren’t able to make it up to the next level. These awards should help them level-up in their careers.

Asked what advice she would like to give, Zinaty added how empowering it is to surround oneself with incredible women, and that one rises by lifting others. Women always acknowledge others, but when do they do it for themselves? She believes that when one woman succeeds we all succeed.

She also said that it is always inspiring to see men supporting women. She emphasized that women are not trying to compete with men but only working towards leveling the playing field.

In the future, Zinaty aspires to take things to the global level. She wishes to empower more and more women in terms of funding more scholarships and new programs and initiatives for young girls to learn new skills and excel at their work.

Her dolce vita is a world where women continue to build each other up, take pain and change it into power, convert struggles into strength and make dreams a reality in a world where women shine, knowing that the sky’s the limit.

CHÂTEAU DE BERNE

A five-star Provençal retreat where nature, wine, and refined living come together

Nestled in the hills of Provence roughly 35 kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea lies the small town of Flayosc and its crown jewel: the Château de Berne. The estate’s history stretches back to Roman times, when vines were already cultivated here. Positioned on a branch of the ancient Via Aurelia — once linking Italy to Spain and crucial for the wine trade — the Château de Berne was a hub of activity. Amphorae used to transport wine were even crafted onsite, as evidenced by an ancient kiln unearthed in the vineyard.

Château de Berne welcomes its guests into 34 rooms and suites, each decorated with great care

In the 19th century the vineyard became an official Côtes de Provence AOC winegrowing estate. Today, it is a Relais & Châteaux resort that lives up to the chain’s prestigious reputation.

Tucked away in the Provençal hinterland, the Château sits at the heart of a 515-hectare natural preserve. A winding road through forests and olive groves brings you to this five-star haven, and past the grand entrance the grounds themselves are nothing short of breathtaking. Peaceful and secluded, the setting is idyllic.

But the guest experience really begins with its wines, all cultivated from 150 hectares of organic vines, and continues with nature-driven encounters and a celebration of the Provençal art of living. A welcome glass of rosé during checkin is just one thoughtful touch of many, and the staff are consistently courteous, welcoming and accommodating.

Each of the hotel’s 34 spacious rooms overlooks the vineyard-covered estate. Guests also have the option to rent private villas — many complete with pools — for a more homelike experience. A cozy bar with a fireplace invites evening relaxation, while a Michelin-starred restaurant promises unforgettable dining.

Guests can enjoy the indoor pool and scenic walking trails that wind through the surrounding countryside. The hotel’s Cinq Mondes and Vinésime Spa is a sanctuary of well-being and beauty. The 800-square-metre space opens onto a terrace and a Japanese garden, further enhancing the sense of calm. The Château even has its own

line of beauty products, Vinésime, made from the estate’s grapes.

Breakfast is a feast. At Le Jardin de Berne, the Château’s Michelin-starred restaurant, you’ll find a stunning open space with large windows and endless breakfast offerings: eggs any style, pancakes, French toast, smoked salmon, artisan cheeses, cereals, granolas, house-made breads and pastries galore.

Chef Louis Rameau, who took the helm in 2020, offers evolving seasonal menus that highlight

fresh, estate-grown produce. “At Château de Berne, nature reigns supreme — and it’s one of the most important values in my cooking,” says Rameau. “Each day, we harvest our vegetables and create dishes that bring out their best. They speak for themselves; all we do is add a few thoughtful touches.” Don’t hesitate to try the surprise tasting menu. Signature dishes like the Tomate Perdue and Lamb en Croûte are especially beloved.

The C hâteau’s bistro, a more casual option, lies just outside the hotel. Its warm staff and simple,

Chef Louis Rameau and Pastry Chef Éric Raynal, each creation pays homage to nature’s abundance, showcasing ingredients from the estate’s three vegetable gardens

well-executed dishes — also made with fresh local ingredients — make it a delightful alternative.

There’s also a second restaurant, L’Olivier de Berne, specializing in traditional Provençal cuisine. Its Sunday brunches are local favourites. Here, vegetables, herbs, and fruits grown on the estate take centre stage. The team also sources from trusted regional producers. Even the tableware reflects this commitment to locality, with plates crafted by local artisans and knives made in nearby Draguignan.

For today’s wine-tourism traveller Château de Berne is the perfect destination. The nearby towns of Lorgues and Tourtour are also well worth a visit. Mountain bikes are available to rent, offering yet another way to explore the picturesque region.

Women are true trailblazers in every field they enter. To commemorate some incredible women in architecture, UQAM’s Centre de Design is thrilled to host the renowned architectural exhibition BUONE NUOVE.

The acclaimed exhibition features the writings and work of numerous female architects from Italy and Quebec, and from elsewhere in Canada and around the world, who have revolutionized the profession.

BUONE NUOVE: Women Architects of Change seeks to provide inspiring role models for a new generation of city builders by demonstrating how women and women-led collectives have improved the standards of modern and contemporary design.

The exhibition comprises four sections. The touring section, “Stories of Italian Architects,” highlights the accomplishments of 21 outstanding Italian women who have made their mark and contributed to the transformation of the profession. After its showings in Stockholm, Doha, New Delhi, Berlin and Toronto, the touring section of the exhibition is currently on display in Montreal.

This portion is told through a series of four huge tables that include sketches, drawings, movies and other documents, ranging from work by Lina Bo Bardi to that of Gae Aulenti, from the internationally recognized post-war designers to up-and-coming female practitioners.

A selection of furniture by designers and architects Aulenti, Nanda Vigo, Anna Ferrieri Castelli, Franca Helg, and Cini Boeri, in addition to a component of the exhibit dedicated to the “Golden Age of Design”demonstrates the extremely broad scope of the architects’ work in post-war Italy.

The Pipistrello lamp and the Primavera armchair are two examples of their classic designs, which blend modernity and craftsmanship and are still manufactured by Kartell, Martinelli Luce, Acerbis, and Bonacina today, bearing witness to their longlasting industrial success.

Finally, the touring section incorporates “Practices in Italy” with pieces by Kazuyo Sejima, Liz Diller, and Zaha Hadid that highlight the

contributions of six globally recognized architects who finished noteworthy projects in Italy in the first two decades of the twenty-first century.

The touring exhibit also features several video interviews that reveal the perspectives and narratives of women revolutionizing architecture through activities like as activism, scholarship, writing, curation, academic leadership and philanthropy, as well as investigations into the connection between gender and place.

The exhibition also includes a local component that highlights work from Quebec and Ontario. During its September 2024 showing at Toronto Metropolitan University another local feature, “Inspiring Practices,” featured fifteen women architects based in Toronto. Samples of the work of sixteen outstanding Québécoise architects has been included in the Montreal edition of the show, with some of their most recent initiatives demonstrating the uniqueness and excellence of Quebec practices.

Another fascinating component, the “Postcard Initiative,” asks participants to celebrate women in architecture by sending in photographs and text so that they can be transformed into postcards and added to the exhibition.

A timeline covering the past century highlights some of the significant contributions and landmark accomplishments made by outstanding women in Canada and around the world in the field of architecture. The chronology contrasts these successes with regional and international sociopolitical events.

Spanning more than a century, this expansive vision of history reflects on the role of female architects and the creatively fresh viewpoints they bring to architecture. The BUONE NUOVE Exhibition at UQAM’s Centre de Design is undoubtedly a unique representation of art’s immortality preserved by incredible women of change.

ROLEX AND SEBRING: AN ENDURING 25-YEAR PARTNERSHIP

The road to victory is unpredictable at Sebring International Raceway, and as day turns to night, Rolex is counting every second

The “12 Hours of Sebring” is a momentous occasion every year. Racing fans all over know that this highly anticipated full-throttle event kicks off the spring racing season historically, the third Saturday in March is the day of the famous race.

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the Rolex clock at

The uneven surface and gruelling conditions of the highly technical 3.74-mile track make the 12 Hours of Sebring at the Sebring International Raceway one of the the most demanding and rewarding races in the world

Sebring International Raceway began its 12-hour countdown at 10 a.m. ET, marking the start of the 73rd Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in Florida.

As the clock ticked down, the excitement in the air was palpable, as the race brought together eager fans and a diverse field of drivers, cars and manufacturers from around the world. The race

commenced with the roar of engines and the screech of tires, and the drivers pushed their cars to the limit lap after lap. Throughout the entire 12 hours, teams had to quickly strategize their pit stops and on-track battles, all while racing under the relentless Florida sun and into the dark of night.

More notably, this year marked the 25th anniversary of the Swiss watchmaker becoming the official timepiece of this 12-hour contest as well as the raceway itself. This is a testament to the brand’s continued loyalty to the racing world, as it has supported the unrelenting demands of endurance racing since the 1960s.

Tom Kristensen, the record six-time winner of this legendary race, says, “Sebring is incredibly demanding, punishing both the car and driver. It is a bumpy circuit that constantly changes; it can be smooth and grippy one moment and sandy and unpredictable the next. More than four hours are raced in almost complete darkness, which adds another layer of complexity. The bumps, the demanding conditions and the unpredictability make it one of the most unforgettable races on the calendar. At Sebring, it’s never over until it’s over.”

The timing in this race, as in life, is crucial. The Rolex clock at Sebring offers more than just time; it illustrates the significance of both the endurance required for the race and the precision for which Rolex is renowned. In any race, every second counts, and Rolex takes pride in its responsibility of being the sole timekeeper and as the time-piece brand that embodies high precision and longevity.
