A Message from the Chief

Dear American Canyon Community,

As we transition from summer to fall, I want to take a moment to reflect on the recent #AmericaFire, a vegetation fire that occurred just outside our Fire District’s jurisdiction. We responded with both on-duty crews, working in close collaboration with Cal Fire/Napa County to bring the fire under control. This event serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing threat that wildfires pose to our region, especially during these dry months. I encourage everyone to stay vigilant, clear defensible space around your properties, and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.

As September arrives, I invite you to join us for our annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. This solemn event will be held on Wednesday, September 11th, starting at 10 am at the Public Safety Building in American Canyon. It’s an opportunity for our community to come together to honor and remember the lives lost and the heroic efforts made on that fateful day.

Looking ahead, please mark your calendars for our Fire District's Open House during Fire Prevention Week on Saturday, October 5th, from 10 am to 1 pm at Station 11, located at 911 Donaldson Way E. This event is a great opportunity to meet your local firefighters, learn about fire safety, and explore the station. We look forward to seeing you there!

Stay safe, and thank you for your continued support.

EXPLORER EXPLORER CORNER CORNER

Public Education & CPR Training

In August, the American Canyon Fire Explorers actively participated in community events, including "National Night Out" and the Chamber’s "Meet Me in the Street." They assisted fire crews with community engagement, teaching Hands-Only CPR, and educating the public on fire safety.

Later in the month, the Explorers completed their second drill, refreshing their CPR certification and practicing using the LUCAS device, a mechanical tool for chest compressions during medical emergencies. Mastery of these skills is essential for the Explorers as a requirement for ride-a-longs with fire crews.

We are proud of future firefighters' progress as they hone their skills and serve their community.

SUCCESS WITH SAFETY

**September is College Fire Safety Month!**

While American Canyon may not have any college dorms, many of us have sent our students off to start their college journey. As they settle in, it’s important to remind them that **smoke alarms** and **carbon monoxide alarms** make the best roommates!

Did you know that approximately **3,800 fires** occur each year in college dormitories? To help keep your loved ones safe, encourage them to:

Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors regularly. Review fire safety tips with their roommates, including avoiding the use of candles or overloaded power strips. Learn how to use a fire extinguisher.

Make sure they know the PASS method: Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep. Create and practice an exit plan so they know the quickest and safest way out in case of an emergency.

A little preparation now can go a long way in ensuring safety for the whole school year!
