FEBRUARY 2024

A Message from the Chief Dear Residents and Community Members, As we dive into February, the American Canyon Fire Protection District is excited to bring you the latest updates and important information in our monthly newsletter. This month, we're highlighting Heart Safe Month, focusing on the importance of CPR training, awareness of AED locations, and celebrating the progress made on our master plan. Additionally, with the wet weather upon us, we want to remind everyone to stay safe. Heart Safe Month: Learn CPR and AED Operation February is Heart Safe Month, and we're putting the spotlight on cardiac health and safety. Knowing CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and understanding how to operate an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) can make a significant difference in saving lives during emergencies. Consider taking a CPR course (http://tinyurl.com/twzj2jek), familiarize yourself with AED locations in the community (https://www.pulsepoint.org) , and empower yourself with life-saving skills. Progress on Master Plan In August of 2022, the American Canyon Fire Protection presented the results of a long-range master plan to the Fire District Board of Directors. This Master Plan was presented in several components outlining the Evaluation of Current Conditions, Support Programs, Community Risk Assessment, Key Findings, and Recommendations. We're delighted to share that our dedicated staff has made significant progress on the master plan.

Staff presented completed strategies, those in progress and long-term strategies that are awaiting to be completed upon favorable fiscal conditions. This plan plays a vital role in mapping our future to enhance our ability to serve and protect the community efficiently. We appreciate your ongoing support, and we look forward to the positive impact these advancements will bring to our services.

Stay Safe in Wet Weather As we experience wet weather this season, it's essential to prioritize safety. Ensure your homes and vehicles are prepared for adverse weather conditions. Follow weather updates, drive cautiously, and take necessary precautions to prevent accidents or emergencies. I encourage you to follow our social media accounts to follow any warnings or road closures. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to the safety of our community. Stay tuned for more updates, and let's make February a Heart Safe Month by learning and spreading awareness about CPR and AED usage. Stay safe and take care!

Warm regards,

Geoff Belyea Fire Chief, American Canyon Fire District

FEBRUARY February is American Heart Month, a time when all people can focus on their cardiovascular health. Taking time to care for your heart can be challenging as you go about daily life. But it’s easier than you think to show your heart the love it deserves each day. Small acts of self-care, like taking walks, getting quality sleep, and cooking healthy meals, help your heart. Heart-healthy living involves understanding your risk, making healthy choices, and taking steps to reduce your chances of getting heart disease, including coronary heart disease, the most common type. By taking preventive measures, you can lower your risk of developing heart disease that could lead to a heart attack. You can also improve your overall health and well-being. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, causing one in four deaths each year. Research shows that stress can make us more likely to get heart disease and have a heart attack. Risk factors, such as high blood pressure, increase your chance of developing heart disease. The more risks you have, the higher your overall risk. Learning CPR can save a life. To find a class visit: www.redcross.org

EXPLORER CORNER For the month of January the Explorers focused on Interview preparation and resume workshop. Each explorer went through a panel interview and was treated as a “real life” interview process for a firefighter position. Feedback was given to each explorer after the interviews to help them improve on their skills. The explorers were highly receptive and stated they learned a lot during the process to prepare them for actual interviews. The second drill consisted of building their resumes and explaining the value of a well prepared resume. Each explorer’s resume was carefully reviewed and given feedback. The Explorers continue to work on their “turnout” drills every meeting and improve on their fitness goals.
