A Message from the Chief
Greetings, residents of American Canyon!
As we welcome the arrival of March, there are a few important reminders and updates we'd like to share with you from the American Canyon Fire Protection District.
1. **Daylight Savings Time Reminder:**
With Daylight Savings Time approaching, it's a perfect opportunity to check your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Remember to change the batteries to ensure they are functioning properly and keeping your home safe.
2. **New Recruits in Training:**
We're excited to announce that three new recruits have joined our ranks and are currently undergoing training at the academy. Assistant Chief Campbell is leading them through their rigorous training program to prepare them for their vital roles in serving and protecting our community.
3. **Introduction of New Equipment:**
Thanks to a generous grant from the Office of Traffic Safety, we have acquired new battery-powered extrication equipment. This equipment has already been put into service and was recently utilized at the scene of a traffic collision. We are committed to staying equipped with the latest tools to enhance our emergency response capabilities.

4. **Spring Safety Tips:**
As the weather begins to turn nicer, it's an excellent time to tend to your outdoor spaces. Remember to mow your lawn and remove any weeds to reduce fire hazards and keep your property well-maintained.

MEET THE TALENTED INDIVIDUALS JOINING OUR FAMILY.
Firefighter Loughran comes to us after spending almost two years with the City of Auburn Fire Department and working as an EMT with LifeWest Ambulance. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Sacramento State.
Firefighter Cummings joins us with a robust background as a Firefighter/EMT. He has been a Firefighter with the Colorado Springs Fire Department since 2018 and is excited to be relocating to Northern California to be closer to family. When asked why he wanted to come to ACFPD he said that he had looked at other larger Fire Departments in California but the welcoming culture here was what drew him to our family and our community.
Firefighter Del Castillo comes to us with firefighting experience from the Woodbridge Fire District and the French Camp Mckinley Fire District. He has also worked as an EMT with AmWest and Bay Medic Ambulance. He holds an Associates Degree in Fire Technology from Cosumnes River College.

What is ACCERT?
ACCERT, American Canyon Community Response Team, is a program that educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live.
ACCERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills such as:

Light Search and Rescue Team Organization Communication
February UPDATE: ACCERT, Napa CART, and other Napa Valley CERT teams participated in the annual CERT Skills Update at Napa Valley College on Feb 17th. We reviewed updates to the CERT curriculum and safety when working around large animals.51 members from around the county participated.
CERT teams exist to “fill the gaps” emergency services may have during a disaster response. We’re happy to be a resource, even when needs change.

February Drill
The explorers are engaged in SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) review and practice donning drills. This aims to familiarize them further with SCBA use in hazardous environments
Although not yet qualified for IDLH (conditions that are Immediately dangerous to life or health) environments, they are still required to assist in maintaining, servicing, and replacing SCBA bottles during incidents as assigned.
