FALL IN LOVE WITH PARKS AND RECREATION A MESSAGE FROM OUR RECREATION SUPERVISOR Happy Fall! I am so thankful to be a part of such an amazing community. I am proud to say that I have been working for the City of American Canyon for eight years. At a young age, I learned first-hand that parks and recreation truly make lives better. I cannot imagine serving a better community! Summer was jam packed with fun in the sun. This Fall, we plan on keeping the fun going! We are promoting our Strength in Numbers with another year of Junior Warriors Basketball League. Check out more on page 16. Our Active Adult programs are the pick of the patch! Come with us on one of our fun Day Trips like, Apple Hill, Graton Casino, or the A's Game! Find out more about our trips and classes, starting on page 25. You can’t beat our one-of-a-kind FREE community events! Hike with us, join in our Coastal Clean-Up Day, or attend our Veteran's Day Ceremony to honor our local veterans. You can also look forward to snow much fun with our Magic of the Season events. It all starts with our annual Holiday Community Tree Lighting. View these events and more on page 2. Whether you are out hiking one of our gorgeous trails or attending one of our many activities, we look forward to seeing you out there creating life-long memories. Leaves are dropping and Fall is calling! Join us as we inspire fun and create community! Alana Behn City of American Canyon Recreation Supervisor

TIME 8:30am - 12pm

Fall is a magical time of year. Watching the leaves and hills change color is an exciting thing to see! Nature seems to slow down, but our lives seem to speed up during the holiday season. As the days get shorter, our list of things to do gets longer. One important thing on your to-do list should be making time to connect with your neighbors at community events. This is a time of year for celebrations, and we are certainly a community worth celebrating!

Young or old, swimming is a great workout because you need to move your entire body against the resistance of the water. Swimming increases your heart rate, and eliminates impact stress off your body. Swimming builds endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. Choose swimming as a way to maintain a healthy weight, heart, and lungs.

We believe in swimming for fun and fitness!

SWIM WITH US

Our swimming program features everything from infant and toddler lessons to adult classes. No matter what your skill level, we believe that swimming is not only fun, but a great way to exercise. Whether you are in the water for the first time or taking an advanced class, we want each of our students to feel comfortable and safe in the water. Building confidence is key so that you and your loved ones may enjoy the water safely for many years to come.

INFANT + TODDLER SWIM PROGRAMS The primary objective of our Parent and Child swim classes is to help our participants feel comfortable in the water. Under the guidance of an instructor, we use games, songs, and toys to make children feel at ease in the pool. Parents will also learn about water safety. Building your child’s water motor skills as they learn land motor skills will help ensure your child’s enjoyment and safety around the water for a lifetime. No classes on 8/31 and 10/31.

Private and semi-private* lessons are great for students trying to overcome fear, focus on specific areas of swimming, or provide the individual attention that group lessons can’t. Semi-private lessons are great for siblings, friends, and swimmers with similar abilities. The curriculum taught resembles our group lessons, but is tailored for the specific needs of each child. Sports are not only fun, they also make a positive and powerful impact on our mental and physical fitness. By being active in sports and playing games, we develop a variety of skills, learn self-expression, and establish an authentic set of characteristics and values that make up who we are. Sports encourage teamwork, self-confidence, and sportsmanship. Plus it's a great way to make new friends!

We believe sports supports a stronger mind and body! We can learn important lessons through sports, like how to follow rules, how to lose, how to respect authority, and how to work together to accomplish a common goal. Through teamwork and competition, we develop focus, persistence, and patience. Sports lifts our mood and energy, while providing a lasting feeling of well-being. Physically, we benefit from a healthier heart and stronger bones. With all of these positive benefits (and many more!), sports are great for all of us!

Being active is important for your overall health and well-being. Adults who are physically active are less likely to develop a chronic disease. In addition, maintaining a socially active lifestyle helps our mental, physical, and emotional well-being. In fact, engaging in social events, activities, and classes can be just as effective as exercise in improving our mood and health.

We believe that active adults are strong and healthy!

ENGAGE WITH US

We are focused on enriching your life by helping you boost your mental health, improve your physical health, and create a sense of belonging. Through our activities, we hope to create a place where you can live your best life, on your terms. Whether you are looking for ways to move and stretch your body or ways to expand your mind and meet new friends, we have an activity for you! We encourage all to come out and join in an activity or two!
