BE ACTIVE. BE HEALTHY. BE HAPPY! A MESSAGE FROM OUR PARKS & OPEN SPACE PROJECT COORDINATOR Winter is here, which means my favorite season is right around the corner. Spring has always been my favorite time of year because of all the endless outdoor activities. It’s the perfect time to start fresh, get outdoors, and enjoy all of the programs, activities, and events that are coming up in our community. Over the last two years, I have seen truly remarkable moments take place at our events in American Canyon. I am honored to work for this City and to serve the members of this community. From Coastal Clean-Up Day to Ridge Trail Day, this Fall was packed with lots of fun outdoor volunteer events. If you missed them, don't worry! There are plenty more opportunities to get involved on the horizon. The City’s new River to Ridge Trail Conservation Program includes two wonderful projects. The first is the Newell Planting and Weeding Project. The second is the Pollinator Planting Project co-hosted with the American Canyon Community & Parks Foundation that will be held during our AmCan By The Bay event. For more information on these events and many others, visit page 3. Spring into action this New Year! You don't want to miss out on all the fun and excitement that we’re planning on bringing to you! YOUTH FUTSAL LEAGUE

TENNIS – BEGINNER

Futsal (indoor soccer) is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. During the game, unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor soccer, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines. For instance,we use our existing basketball court. We do not use walls or boards.

This 4-week program introduces your child to the great sport of tennis in a fun and safe environment. We use the U10 teaching format with low compression balls, shorter courts, and smaller, lighter racquets. Children experience success, feel more confident, and play tennis at a much earlier age. IT IS TIME FOR AMERICAN CANYON TO UPDATE ITS GENERAL PLAN! The General Plan is American Canyon’s long-term blueprint for development of the City. The Plan represents our community’s view of its future and expresses the long-term growth and development goals. It addresses issues that impact the entire City, such as how land is used; where buildings are built; the locations of roads, schools, and parks; safety; noise; and much more. The Plan includes the implementation of both one-time projects and on-going programs. The General Plan contains the goals and policies upon which the City Council and Planning Commission will base their land use decisions.

WHY IS THE CITY UPDATING ITS PLAN? The City’s current General Plan is more than 20-years-old. Since incorporation in 1992, the City’s population has grown from approximately 8,300 to nearly 21,000. In addition, the City has undergone significant changes which include the development of La Vigne, Vintage Ranch, numerous residential neighborhoods on the west side, American Canyon Middle School and High School, hotels, shopping centers on Broadway, and a logistics hub for the wine industry. The City’s current General Plan has served us well, but our updated Plan will provide direction to balance a high quality-of-life with improved economic and fiscal conditions for the next 20 years.

WHAT ARE THE PLAN GOALS? The way we live and work has changed a lot since 1992 when the General Plan was adopted. The new 2040 General Plan focuses on implementing the City’s Strategic Plan and accomplishing topics like these: • • • •

Shared prosperity Mobility choices Healthy and active community Industry and economic growth

• • • •

Housing availability and quality Recreational facilities and open space Environmental health and sustainability Safe and secure neighborhoods

• Access to quality goods and services • Life-long educational opportunities

STAY UPDATED ON OUR GENERAL PLAN PROGRESS We believe that everyone is a stakeholder. To encourage open and engaging dialog, the City has designed a series of community events that will allow for transparency and participation in this planning process. These include: Public Workshops • Circulation Element Advisory Committee • Education Element Advisory Committee Parks & Community Services Commission • Open Space Advisory Committee • Public Review Draft General Plan • Planning Commission • City Council Hearings We encourage you to stay updated on our General Plan Progress! We’ll be posting additional opportunities to participate on our website, City Manager email updates, and on our Facebook page. Connect with us to stay in the loop!
