BUCKEYE CITY COUNCIL Eric Orsborn, Mayor Craig Heustis, Vice Mayor Michelle Hess Tony Youngker Clay Goodman Jeanine Guy Patrick HagEstad

From the Mayor

This is my favorite time of year because the Buckeye Air Fair is just a few weeks away! This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever. We’ve added new stunt pilots to the lineup, so expect an all new, breath-taking air show Feb. 19 and 20, beginning at noon. Thanks to the popularity of our Air Fair partners Copperstate Fly-in, plan on spending time checking out the really cool aircraft displays throughout the Buckeye Municipal Airport. You also don’t want to miss the STOL Drags (Short take-off and Landing contest), amazing remote-controlled aircraft, historic military displays, the SciTech Fest and Kid’s Zone. This event has something for everyone, including a VIP Tent where you can get an up-close view of the air show, complimentary drinks and snacks, a Mayor Mayor private restroom and a primo parking spot. You can purchase tickets online Jackie Meck Eric Orsborn and get all the Air Fair details at buckeyeairfair.com. On the business side of things, Buckeye is front and center in the economic development community. Several developers have pooled resources and purchased approximately 200 acres surrounding the new KOREplex located near Baseline Road and State Route 85. KORE Power, one of the leaders in green energy, and soon to be Buckeye’s largest employer, will anchor the future of industrial development in this area with cutting-edge technology, now known as the Sustainable Valley. This is a win for Buckeye and our residents, but the entire West Valley and all of Arizona will benefit from these upcoming projects. This new technology corridor is a welcome addition to Buckeye, but I assure you, we will continue to honor and celebrate our city’s rich agricultural heritage. The Buckeye Valley Museum plays a critical role in connecting our history with today and our tomorrow. The Museum, located just east of City Hall on MC 85, is currently undergoing a facelift. The Buckeye Valley Historical Society spent the last five years raising over $60,000 to pay for the design of upgrading the front, or façade of the building. The project will take a few months to complete, but when the Museum re-opens, it will be worth the trip downtown with the entire family to celebrate and learn about our city’s history. Besides the Buckeye Air Fair Feb. 18 – 20, our Community Services Department has other great events for you. The Veterans Lift Up event on Feb. 26 provides excellent services and resources for our active military and Veterans, including a free breakfast. The annual Spring Celebration April 9 provides fun for children of all ages, and the city’s Memorial Day Celebration May 30 pays tribute to the men and women who gave their life for our freedom. You can keep up with the latest news and events, including the progress on the I-10 widening project between SR 85 and Verrado Way, following me on social media, Facebook @MayorEricOrsborn or Instagram @city-of-buckeye-mayor.

The Carol Rugh Film Series Watch the landmark screwball comedy from Hollywood’s golden age, ‘My Man Godfrey’ (1936) while enjoying movie snacks. Directed by Gregory LaCava, ‘My Man Godfrey’ follows the madcap antics of a superficial debutante (Carol Lombard) who stumbles upon a ‘forgotten man’ (William Powell) at the city dump. Determined to help Godfrey out, she offers him work in her household and he soon becomes the perfect butler for her eccentric family. As the family’s antics grow increasingly more absurd, it is only a matter of time before Godfrey’s secret is revealed. This timeless comedy classic was the first film ever to receive an Academy Award in all four categories. Façade Construction Underway at Buckeye Valley Museum

In 2014, the museum received an interior makeover including new carpet, tile, paint and representations of historic Buckeye buildings that would enhance the development of new displays. What started as a simple idea to refresh the museum became a project that brought community members and businesses together with donated materials and labor to transform the inside of the museum. The success of these improvements prompted a desire to revive the outside of the museum to reflect the history of the Buckeye Valley. The Buckeye Valley Historical Society quickly jumped on board and drawings for a new exterior were made to inspire fundraising efforts. Thanks to the amazing support of the community, after five years of silent auctions, special events and Chuck Wagon Cookouts, the Historical Society raised over $60,000 to pay for design plans to put a façade on the front of the museum. With these plans in hand, the façade construction was funded by the city to move forward in 2021-2022. Follow project updates and announcement of Re-Opening Event at www.buckeyeaz.gov/museum.
