Registration Info
Pre-registration is required for all recreation programs unless otherwise listed and all fees are due at the time of registration. Please note the deadline for all programs is 3 days prior to the start of the class. All programs require a minimum number of registrants in order to operate. Programs will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Each program fee is listed in the brochure, and additional supplies might be required if noted. Cash, check, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard and American Express) are accepted.

Memberships The Alan E. Sims Cedar Hill Recreation Center is the perfect place to maintain your healthy lifestyle in our fitness area, learn something new participating in one of our programs, host a special event in one of our multipurpose room rentals or play a game of basketball with your family and friends. Memberships are available to both Cedar Hill residents and non-residents at the same rate. Each membership includes: • • • • •
Access to state-of-the-art fitness equipment including three-lane walking/jogging track, a variety of cardio and strength machines, free weights and much more. (free fitness orientation available). Two full size gymnasiums. Game room including table tennis, foosball, air hockey, pool table and gaming systems. Onsite childcare 6 mo. to 6 yrs. in our barnyard room (Included in annual membership fee, or $20/10 visits, $4/per child, per visit). Complimentary wallet lockers located in the gymnasium & fitness area for personal items.

Multipurpose Room Rentals With over 5,400 square feet available for rent, the Alan E. Sims Cedar Hill Recreation Center is ideal for meetings, receptions, birthday parties and weddings. Guests have the option of using the entire space or splitting it up into 4 separate rooms. Each rental includes access to audio/video equipment and a commercial kitchen (for an additional fee). The Cedar Hill Senior Center services active seniors, age 50 and older, through planned programs, activities, and trips. Participants are offered enriching opportunities in a safe, fulfilling environment. Memberships to the center are FREE of charge and can be completed at the Senior Center. All programs are held weekly at the Senior Center, and registration is required for designated programs (up to 40 participants). Zula B. Wylie Public Library cards are FREE to residents of Texas. You can borrow books, videos, DVDs, ebooks, audio books and magazines. Virtual electronic cards are also available to access online databases and resources. Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Duncanville residents can receive a partnership card FREE of charge.

Computers and laptops with internet access and Microsoft Office products are provided for library users. FREE wireless internet access is also available 24/7 throughout the library building. You can also check out WiFi mobile hotspots, which enable you to access the internet anywhere you go.
Community Garden
The community garden has been a Growing Green success and has developed into a community-wide project. Register online to participate. This project is open to the public on a first come, first serve basis.
Copy, Print & Fax
A coin-operated photocopy machine is provided for public use. Black and white and color computer printing is available for a small fee. Faxing is also available for a small fee. Faxing resumes and job applications is FREE.

Youth Library Programs

Children Storytime Sessions: Baby Storytime - Mondays, 10:30 am. This storytime class helps develop motor, sensory, and social skills through songs, movement, and rhyme while promoting pre-literacy skills and a love of books. The Family Place Library Parent Playgroup will combine with storytime for 5 weeks starting January 29-March 26. These sessions will incorporate storytime and playtime for children ages 0-3 and their parents/caregivers. Community Resource Professionals will be in attendance with information and resources that help parents understand their role as their child’s first teacher. Siblings under 5 years old may attend as well. Preschool Storytime - Wednesdays, 10:30 am. This fun and engaging class will help children ages 3-6 develop all important literacy skills. Interactive songs, fingerplays and activities will focus on skills needed for the first year of kindergarten. STEAM activities follow storytime. Toddler Storytime - Fridays, 10:30 am. Stories, dance and action rhymes will engage toddlers ages 2-3 in developing pre-reading skills in this fun and active storytime class. A simple craft follows storytime. Family Pajama Storytime - Held the 3rd Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm. January 18, February 15, March 15, and April 19. Bring the whole family and wear your pajamas! We will have calming bedtime stories for all ages and a milk and cookie snack at the end. Bilingual Storytime - Saturday, February 3,10:30 am. Includes stories in both English and Spanish, songs, crafts, and special guests. Special Guest Storytime - January 10 and April 25 at 10:30 am. Join us for a special “Buggy” storytime with guests from Backyard Wildlife Resource Center!
Ongoing Activities: Homework Help - Children in grades 3-6 can receive guided assistance with homework every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 pm. Sessions are facilitated by a certified teacher. Space is limited. Register weekly by calling 972-291-7323. Youth Tellers - Children in grades 3-6 are invited to learn the art of storytelling every Thursday at 5 pm. Tail Wagging Tutors - 2nd Saturday of each month at 1:30 pm. Children of all ages are invited to read aloud to friendly, trained dogs from the Dog Training Club of Dallas County at 1:30 pm.
Spring Break Activities March 12-16: Crafternoon - March 12 at 1 pm. Dress to get messy and join us in making something fun and creative! Techie Tuesday - March 13 at 1 pm. Meet us in the meeting room for a tech gadget petting zoo! Learn all about all the technology the library has to offer. Under age 8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Classic Outdoor Play - March 14 at 1 pm. Join us outside in the amphitheater for some old fashioned games and activities like hopscotch, four square, hide and seek and more! Hike, bike and jog on the many trails of Cedar Hill! Cedar Hill offers miles of trails, ideal for a morning run, weekend bike ride, or simply a family walk. Choose one of the following to explore on your next outdoor adventure! Red Oak Creek Trail - With over 3.61 miles of paved trail, the Red Oak Creek Trail can be accessed at one of the following trailheads, Alan E. Sims Cedar Hill Recreation Center, Virginia Weaver Park, Dot Thomas Park and Cedar Trails Greenbelt. Lake Ridge Parkway - 3.5 miles of paved trail located in the Lake Ridge Community. Pleasant Run Road - .8 miles of paved trail located alongside Pleasant Run Road. Cedar Mountain Nature Preserve - 1 mile nature trail through the hills of Cedar Hill. COMING SOON! FM 1382 Trail - The Phase I hike and bike trail along West FM 1382 between New Clark Rd and the entrance road to Cedar Hill State Park is currently under construction and scheduled to be completed in late spring 2018. Phase II of this hike and bike trail that will extend to City of Cedar Hill city limits is in the final stages of planning. Construction is anticipated to begin in January 2018 with a ribbon cutting in the spring of 2019. For construction updates, visit the FM 1382 hike and bike trail page at cedarhilltx.com/pard.

Lester Lorch Nature Preserve, located at 1823 Texas Plume Rd., offers 2 challenging 18-hole disc golf courses, Beaver and Coyote, and covers elevation changes, wooded areas and a pond. It is open to the public for casual play. South Hills course located on S. Clark Rd. offers a casual 9-hole course open for casual play.

City parks are a great place to celebrate, whether it be a birthday party, family reunion or just a picnic in the park. There are 15 covered pavilions that can be rented at various parks throughout the city along with the Amphitheater at Valley Ridge Park. All fees are due at the time of the reservation and you are required to reserve the pavilion for the entire time you occupy it. Contact the Parks and Recreation Administrative Offices at (972) 291-5130 to check availability and all reservations must be completed in person.
