Learn more about our native plants and how Concord blooms in the Summertime! Attendees will receive information cards about their flower, how best to care for it and its place in the local ecosystem! Min. 2; Max. 20. Pre-registration is required.

DWARF CRESTED IRIS - Get invested with a Dwarf Crested (Iris)! Create your own decorated planting pot with family and friends and get a local Concord wildflower to plant and bring home.

Greenway Adventures

Ages 3 & up

Using the greenways as our classroom, we will explore critters and their habitats, with fun and creative activities. Parents are encouraged to join in on the fun. Each program will meet at the designated trail for 1 to 1.5 hours. Min. 1; Max. 12. Pre-registration is required.

Trips

Enjoy exploring, learning, sightseeing, and traveling without having to drive! All trips will depart from the David Phillips Activity Center (946 Burrage Rd. in Concord, 28025). Please plan to arrive 30 minutes before departure for trips. Prices do not include cost of meal. Min. 10; Max. 20. Pre-registration is required for each trip.

SARAH P. DUKE GARDENS, DUKE CHAPEL AND UNIVERSITY - Bus departs at 7:30am, arrives in Durham by 9:30am. Leave at 2:00pm, return to Concord by 4:15pm. Join us as we walk through the specialized gardens in the heart of Duke University. Our group will be led on a tour as we explore the beauty of nature in their carefully crafted gardens. See why more than 600,000 visitors annually have enjoyed coming to visit. We will also walk to the Duke Chapel and University. Guided tour will last approximately 60-75 minutes. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Lunch is not included in the trip fee, but there are several eateries near the chapel we will visit. Trip will happen rain or shine, with the exception of lightning.

GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN - Bus departs at 7:00am, arrive in Linville by 10:00am. Leave at 3:00pm, return to Concord by 5:00pm. At the Wilson Center for Nature Discover, find exhibits about the mountain, film theater, Mildred’s Grill restaurant and gift shop. Next door, walk through the Animal Habitats to see black bears, cougars, otters, elk and eagles. The Mile High Swinging Bridge and Top Shop visitors’ center are at the very top of the mountain. Don’t worry, unless you’d like to hike it, there is a shuttle that can take you to the top!

Fee: $70.00 plus cost of meal

CITY OF CONCORD TOUR - Bus departs 10:00am, return to David Phillips Activity Center by 3:00pm. On this exciting trip will we will learn about what makes this city so unique, while we take a walk through the history of the City of Concord, its secrets, and past.

GET 'EM HOOKED at Lake Fisher Reservoir Ages 3-12

Concord Parks and Rec is launching the first annual Get ’em Hooked! Youth Fishing Day. We will have lead anglers teach the youth how to fish by getting into jon boats and teaching them the life sport of fishing. Parents are able to teach their children how to fish as well. Fishing equipment is provided for all youth anglers including bait. Fishing license required for ages 13 and up. Pre-registration is required.

Lake Fisher

Lake Fisher consists of 534 acres, and supports a healthy sport fishery.

Fishing must be from available rental boats. Electric trolling motors and 10 horsepower or less gas motors are acceptable.
