Helpful Information

Refunds

Full refunds may be requested three business days prior to the start of a program/season. Refunds requested within three business days prior to the start of a program/season may offer the potential for proration or a full refund. Registrations paid in cash or check will be refunded in the form of an WebTrac credit or city check; city check may take up to 30 days. Registrations paid with credit will be refunded via a personal credit refund or an WebTrac credit. The service fees and scholarships will remain non-refundable.

Satisfaction Policy: Patrons may request a refund at any time after the start of a program if they are unhappy with it. These must be submitted in writing or email and sent directly to the appropriate supervisor. The type of program will determine the amount of refund provided (this may be adjusted due to pre-advertised supplies purchased, etc.).

Accessibility

The Leisure Services Department believes that all individuals should be provided with accessible recreation opportunities. Upon request during registration, individuals with disabilities will be provided accommodations and/or one-on-one support to better assist in program participation. There is no additional cost to the registrant for this service. For more information contact Janna Beau at 563.589.4315.

Volunteering

The Leisure Services Department is always seeking help in providing improved services to the community. If you have a desire to volunteer time to assist with a program or clean a park, or would like to donate a tree or provide materials or money to improve a certain facility, please contact the office at 563-589-4263.

Public Transportation

The Jule provides public transportation to bus stops near many parks and recreation facilities including Flora and Sutton Pools, Carnegie-Stout Public Library, the Multicultural Family Center, Comiskey Park, and many others.

Youth ages 6-18 ride for FREE if they are able to show a school ID card. If not, it’s only $1 per year to purchase a swipe card! Kids under 5 should be accompanied by an adult or guardian.

Passes can be picked up at The Jule Intermodal Center (950 Elm St.) and City Hall (50 West 13th St.) during regular business hours. For additional information, including route and schedule information, visit www.JuleTransit.org or call 563.589.4196.

How to Register

Create a RecTrac Account

RecTrac is our online registration system. If you haven't created an account yet, setting it up in advance will save you time when you go to register for classes, programs, activities, swim lessons, etc. Get started now and create your account today!

Step 1: Go to www.cityofdubuque.org/letsgo and click “SIGN IN / REGISTER” on the top right corner.

Step 2: Click “Don’t have an account? Sign Up Now” under the RecTrac Login box.

Step 3: Complete the “Create New Household” form. The required fields are in red. If applicable, don’t forget to add your family members by clicking the blue “Add New Member” box. When finished, click the green “Save” button at the bottom of the form.

Step 4: Explore the RecTrac registration system! You can type in keywords, filter by age, type of program, months, recreation categories, locations, days of the week, season, and more! Then, come back on April 24 to register for programs and activities. For questions, contact the Leisure Services office at 563-589-4263.

Place your form and payment in a sealed envelope and drop off in mail slot in the drop-box located outside 1157 Central Ave. or Bunker Hill, 2200 Bunker Hill Rd. To protect your personal information, if you choose to mail in, email, fax, or drop off forms and pay with a credit card, staff will call you at the contact number provided to process payment. Do not write your credit card information on forms.

$150 Family Scholarship

The Leisure Services Family Scholarship is a $150 household credit for income-qualified families (two or more related people from the same address). Scholarship credits can be used for:

Join the Nerf Challenge and put your shooting skills to the test! We will create a fun and challenging Nerf course for you to show off your blaster speed and precision. This is a non-contact event with pre-assigned targets. Please bring your own Nerf gun/blaster (darts will be provided –Elite Series Darts ONLY). All equipment brought should be clearly marked with your name. A limited supply of Nerf guns/blasters will be available for use. During games where campers play against each other, we will provide the equipment. This is a drop off class.

The kick-off event will include a variety of activities such as storytime, books, songs, and play for all. Come meet our staff and learn about all the wonderful programs that are offered during the summer. Free to attend. No registration required. Adventure Day Camp

A week-long adventure takes place in four great locations throughout Dubuque. Fun-filled activities include the Four Mounds Challenge Ropes Course, canoeing on Catfish Creek at Mines of Spain, and ecosystem adventures at Swiss Valley Nature Center and the EB Lyons Interpretive Center. Campers will also enjoy creek-stomping, hiking, team-building exercises, arts and crafts, and games.

Camp Details

Camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. with an option of before- and after-care, extending hours from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Children are required to bring a sack lunch and a water bottle. All other supplies and safety equipment are provided by the camp, including life vests. Convenient pick-up and drop-off locations will be at AllisonHenderson Park and Comiskey Park. For all activities, we provide at least one highly-trained staffer for every five to six campers. Campers need no special skills and participate at their own comfort level.

Four Mounds Adventure Camp

$180 per camper each week or FREE to income-qualifying families that are residents of Dubuque. Children may register for one week only.

Capoeira (pronounced cap-oh-air-uh) finds its roots deep in the culture of slavery in Brazil. Capoeira was a way for them to blend their past culture with their newfound culture in Brazil. The movements reflect the dances of northern Africa, and the martial arts were a way for the slaves to stay limber and practice self-defense. Each individual must have their own swim pass with photo, regardless of age. They are available for purchase at the Leisure Services office located at 1157 Central Ave. You may also pre-pay online at www.cityofdubuque.org/pools, then visit the office to get your photo taken and receive your pass. Swim pass renewals may be purchased online. No visit to the office is required. The renewal is applied directly to the existing pass. Swim passes are not sold at the pools.

Swim passes may be purchased with Family Scholarship funds. Swim passes are half-price for low-income individuals who do not have scholarship funds available. For questions about swim passes, call the Leisure Services office at 563-589-4263.

Swim Lesson Options

Group Lessons

Per Two-Week Session, $32/R, $38/NR

Lessons are held in two-week sessions, Monday - Friday the first week and Monday - Thursday the second week. The second Friday will be used as a make-up day if there are two or more cancellations due to weather. Lessons are held rain or shine; however, if severe weather exists, there may be a need to cancel. Please contact the pool office or visit the Dubuque Leisure Facebook page for weather cancellations. No refunds are given due to weather.

Private Lessons - SWM5200 4 Lessons: $80/R, $96/NR

Private Lessons will be held Monday-Thursday each week, with Friday used as a make-up day if needed. Each session consists of four 30-minute lessons. Register online for your preferred session, then complete the private lesson form at www.cityofdubuque.org/swimlessons and return it to lessonsmanager@cityofdubuque.org

Adapted Lessons - SWM5300

$32/R, $38/NR

Adapted lessons are provided to individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities. Swimmers will be taught swimming and lifesaving skills based on their ability and goals. The schedule coincides with the group lessons schedule. If a guardian chooses, they may be in the water with the child and receive verbal instruction from the teacher. Register online and then complete the adapted lesson form at www.cityofdubuque.org/ swimlessons and return it to lessonsmanager@cityofdubuque.org

Swim Lessons Sections

Preschool Beginner

For swimmers ages 3-5 years old AND be supervised with a guardian age 14 and older who remains in the water. Children in this level will become comfortable to submerge head, jump into pool by self, and complete front and back glides, floats, and supporting arms.

Advanced Preschool Beginner

For swimmers ages 3-5 years old who are comfortable in the water with swim instructor and do not require additional assistance with guardian. This class will focus on bobbing, rhythmic breathing, front and back floats with kick, and jumping into deeper water with assistance.

Beginner I

It is not required that the child take Preschool Beginner class first; the level depends on the swimmer’s comfort in the water. Child must be at least 6 years of age. Primary skills are taught to include water exploration, front and back floats, rhythmic breathing, glides with kicks, and jumping into deep water with assistance.

Beginner II

Stroke Readiness: Swimmers will learn to front and back glide the length of the pool, and be introduced to beginner crawl, back crawl, and elementary back stroke.

Advanced Beginner I

Stroke Development: Students will be able to complete 25 yards of the front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstrokes. Deep water exploration will be encouraged with deep water dives, swims, and treading water.

Advanced Beginner II

Stroke Refinement: Swimmers will demonstrate alternate rhythmic breathing, deep water bobs, and diving from board. Fifty yards of continuous swims will be performed for both front and back crawls, as well as 25 yards of breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke.

Intermediate - Skill Proficiency

These advanced swimmers will perform each stroke continuously for 100 yards without breaks, using flip turns. Pike and tuck dives will be introduced, as well as basic water rescues and safety.

Swimmer - Advanced Skills

Students in this level are at the most advanced stage. During this session they will be expected to swim 200 yards front crawl, 100 back crawl, 50 side stroke, and become introduced to the Butterfly.

A fun and scenic 18-hole public golf course, Bunker Hill is a beautiful place for the entire family to play golf. The rolling hills and old-style greens offer challenges for golfers at all skill levels.

We are proud to offer a full schedule of golf events, a variety of men’s and women’s leagues, programs for junior golfers, private lessons, and more. Our amenities include a fully-stocked pro shop, a public bar and clubhouse, putting greens for perfecting your short game, an on-course beverage cart, and equipment rentals.

Junior Golf Program

Junior Golf is a one-week program for kids ages 10 and older. The program is designed to help junior golfers learn the game of golf, build confidence, and most importantly, have fun! Junior golfers at all experience levels are welcome. Cost is $50. Register by June 17. While it is not mandatory, we encourage all parents to get involved in our Junior Golf Program to insure proper supervision for our young golfers.

Intro to Golf

Ages: 7 - 9 yrs. $25, Registration Required June 25 - 27 10:30 - 11:15 a.m.

Intro to Golf is a three-day program designed for junior golfers ages 7 to 9 years old. We use engaging activities to teach the basics of golf in a way that is fun, positive, and rewarding. Register by June 17.

Sunday Night Couples Golf

Sundays at 4 p.m., Starting May 5

Our couples golf is fun and casual. Come hit the greens on as many Sunday evenings as you can! The cost to join includes a one-time $30 participation fee per couple, plus weekly green and cart fees and weekly $5 event fees. Note, there is no weekly green fee for season pass holders.

The golf shop assigns the pairings so couples get the opportunity to meet each other. There are chances to win gift certificates to Bunker Hill weekly and on the final fun night. For questions or to register for Sunday Night Couples Golf, call 563-589-4261.

Golf Lessons

The purpose of a golf lesson is to provide quality instruction for men, women, and juniors of all skill levels in an enthusiastic, stress-free environment. In return it will allow you, the student, to see improvement and love for the game of golf.

Private lessons are taught by our PGA Golf Professional Mike Sullivan. Lessons may include the use of video equipment and teaching aids to help provide you as much feedback as possible to accelerate the learning process. Women’s Golf Association

The Women’s Association is a group of women who play golf at Bunker Hill in a series of organized and fun events. It is open to women of all ages and golf skill levels. Each week, association members play at their convenience. Tee times are required, and standard green and cart fees apply. New events start each Thursday.

In addition to weekly events, the association hosts an annual dinner, spring and fall meetings, and the Women’s Invitational. The annual association fee is $25. For questions or to join the Bunker Hill Women’s Association, call 563-589-4261.

Tiny Art Show

Show off your artistic talents in the third annual Carnegie-Stout Public Library Tiny Art Show! People of all ages and abilities are welcome. Artworks will display at the library during the month of July. Participate in three easy steps:

1. Register to pick up a take-home kit with everything you need to create a mini masterpiece at home. (Kits are available for pickup beginning June 1.)

2. Return your finished artwork to the library by June 21.

3. Visit the library during the month of July to admire all the beautiful, tiny art submissions. (Note: All art submissions should be picked up between Aug. 1-11.)

David Mehrl Jazz Concert

Fulfill Student Service Hours at the Library!

Does Your Teen Need Service Hours for School? The library is the perfect place for students age 13 to 18 to complete service hours. Volunteering at the library helps students with social competencies such as planning, decision making, and interpersonal communication.

Student volunteers will be part of some great summer programming, like Teen Advisory Group, Book Buddies, Drop-in Craft Tables, and the Sun SHINE Squad. Participating in the summer volunteer program will also go toward meeting the requirements for the C-SPL Teen Success Scholarship.

Simply pick up an application from the Children’s Help Desk by May 14, and then join us for one of the volunteer orientation times listed below.

Paper Aircraft Challenge

Use your design skills to make your own paper airplane in the Teen Zone. Challenge yourself by creating different types of paper airplanes and see how far they fly. This activity is available during Teen Librarian hours.

DIY Iron-On Patches

Flex your stitching skills and make a patch or two to decorate a denim jacket, backpack, or anything you can iron a patch onto. Hand-sewing experience is a plus, but not required.

Expert tutors are available online daily from 2-11 p.m. to assist students in grades K-12 with Math, Science, Social Studies, English, SAT/ACT Prep, and more. Students can communicate with live tutors using an interactive whiteboard to chat, write, draw, and solve problems. You can also record tutor sessions to replay with classmates and teachers.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

This free reading program encourages families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten. Don’t Just Make It…Sublimate It!

Create custom gifts for your friends and family! Take any photo, phrase, or your own design and print it out using our Epson sublimation printer. Our Master Makers will then show you how to apply your design to sublimation blanks using the heat press. The Maker Space offers a wide variety of sublimation blanks including mugs, tumblers, key chains, koozies, and so much more ranging in price from $1 to $9.

The City of Dubuque maintains over 1,200 acres of parkland and over 300 facilities including baseball and softball diamonds, disc golf courses, skate parks, and much more. There is something here for everyone!

Park Season Schedule

City parks are open year-round. Park amenities such as restrooms, pavilions, and drinking fountains open on the first Saturday of May and close each season on the fourth Sunday of October.

Miller Riverview Park & Campround

Miller Riverview Park and Campground is a 20acre park located on the scenic Mississippi River, located at 1851 Admiral Sheehy Dr. Depending on the weather and river level, the campground is typically open mid-April through the fourth Sunday in October. It features tent and pullthrough spots, 97 full electric hookups, accessible restrooms and showers, picnic tables, firepit grills, playground equipment, and more. Reservations must be made online prior to your arrival.

Reserve a Pavilion

The City of Dubuque offers multiple pavilion and picnic shelters available for use by reservation at several parks including A.Y. McDonald Park, the Bee Branch Creek Greenway, Bergfeld Recreation Area, Eagle Point Park, Flora Park, and Murphy Park. Reservations may be made 11 months in advance.

McAleece Park & Recreation Complex

The skate park at McAleece Park and Recreation complex features above-ground ramps made of Skate-lite material. It is located off of Chaplain Schmitt Dr. and parking is available.

Comiskey Park

255 East 24th Street

A small area with above-ground ramps is available on the E. 25th St. side of this neighborhood park.

The City of Dubuque maintains a comprehensive 53-mile bike/hike trail system. This system includes 28 miles of on-street routes and 25 miles of paved trails for walking, hiking, and biking. The off-road network includes trails at the Bergfeld Recreation Area, Eagle Point Park, Port of Dubuque, Chaplain Schmitt Memorial Island, and Peosta Channel. The on-street network includes sections of the Mississippi River Trail through the Downtown and Historic Millwork Districts, and the Washington and North End Neighborhoods. Comiskey Park Splash Pad

Escape the summer heat and dive into fun with our state-of-the-art Splash Pad at Comiskey Park! With colorful water features, interactive sprays, and safe, slip-resistant surfaces, our Splash Pad guarantees hours of fun with friends and family!

What You Need To Know!

The splash pad is open from the first Saturday in May to the fourth Sunday in October. No lifeguard is on duty. Use of the splash pad is at your own risk. Children under 7 years of age must be accompanied by a sibling or guardian 14 years of age or older in the splash pad play area.
